24.01.2022 Im so glad weve made it to chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians! Because this is a glorious part of Gods word. Its full of hope, encouragement, assurance. And its focussed on the heart of Christianity - our core belief, a foundational truth, that Jesus rose from the dead. Death could not keep him. In fact, he defeated death. And flowing out of glorious truth, the hope that one day we too will rise from the dead at the general resurrection on the last day when Jesus returns. But how can we know that Jesus did, in fact, rise from the dead? Join us live on Sunday at 8:30am to explore our reasons for confidence. https://youtu.be/MrGtEfU_ZuE
24.01.2022 This Sunday we're continuing the story of Ruth and focussing on the remarkable commitment she made to leave her home country and embrace Naomi's God as her God. Would you like to join us on Sunday at either our 8:30am or 10am services? With the relaxation of restrictions, we now have between 10-15 seats reserved for guests. Please message me if you'd like to worship with us so we can set a seat aside for you. With Christian love,... Pastor Andrew If you're at home and unable to get out and about to gather in person, you'll find our service uploaded to our YouTube channel by about 10am on Sunday morning. 24.01.2022 "Only God does all things perfectly. In a world that has written God out of the story, we have written ourselves into the role of perfection-attainment. And it is killing usour dusty little frames, our finite abilities cant handle it. Its not that we shouldnt ever aim to be the bestits about what we do when we fall short. And what failing does to us. Its realising that not all things need to be the best, but can simply be enjoyed for what they are." https://gentlereformation.com//09/12/enjoying-imperfection/
23.01.2022 "I once thought that the psalms were sung by a fine choir in Gods throne room. Then I actually read them, and they sounded more like the words of a street troubadour who encourages the participation of those around him. Now I find that they are simply spoken and sung everywhere: in the darkness of night, in the early morning, in all the details of everyday life. And there are a handful of psalms in which the psalmists speak to themselves. These are the ones I want to consider. There are times when we must learn to speak to ourselves." https://www.ccef.org/talking-our-souls/
23.01.2022 "Sometimes I put off or just forget to drink water. I get to lunch time after a few cups of tea and a coffee or two, and I have a headache. Why? I ask myself. And then I remember: Water, thats it, I need water! Unlike anything else that I might grab in a weak or distracted momentanother coffee, a coke or a coffee frappe through the Golden Arches drive-through (true confessions here)water never disappoints. Nothing replenishes and refreshes like water. Water is good, it... always works; it never fails. From the womb to the tomb: I need water, to survive and to thrive. Sometimes I put off or just dont think to read the Bible. I get busy and the worries of the world creep in. The daily challenges of getting things done loom larger than they should do, and the everyday sacrifices involved in loving people close to me, and neighbours I meet along the way, begin to weigh me down. Sometimes I will try to distract myself, spending too much time discovering that there is nothing I want to watch on the entire inter-web. Paralysed by choice, of course, I cannot choosewhich can take an hour of lost time to work out." https://au.thegospelcoalition.org//you-really-need-to-rea/

21.01.2022 "God is sovereign in creation, providence, redemption, and judgment. That is a central assertion of Christian belief and especially in Reformed theology. God is King and Lord of all. To put this another way: nothing happens without Gods willing it to happen, willing it to happen before it happens, and willing it to happen in the way that it happens. Put this way, it seems to say something that is expressly Reformed in doctrine. But at its heart, it is saying nothing different from the assertion of the Nicene Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty. To say that God is sovereign is to express His almightiness in every area." https://www.ligonier.org//gods-sovereignty-and-our-respon/
21.01.2022 "The answers to our deepest questions are not found in having just anyone who can hear and see our urgent need. Lovato already had plenty of people listening to her hundred million songs. What she, and all of us, need is the One who listens to our cries, who is concerned, and who gathers us into his communitya genuine community that learns to truly listen and care for one another. We need this One who leads us out of prison-like isolation and into his kingdom of grace! Jesus is the One who hears and transforms us. He is the Lord." https://www.ccef.org/when-nobody-else-listens-god-listens/

19.01.2022 This Sunday at 9am, we'll be beginning a series of reflections on Spiritual Gifts as we continue in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. We'll also be celebrating the greatest of all spiritual gifts in our service, remembering the death of Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins, as we share the Lord's Supper as part of our service. We don't have any seats remaining at our in-person service at the church building for this week, but we do have 8-10 seats remaining for August 16th. So if you'd... like to join us in-person, please message me so I can reserve you seats. https://youtu.be/ZLouvOy00DI See more
18.01.2022 "Your trial cannot be longer than the lasting power of God's faithfulness, and mercy, and patience, and power. He will be true to you all through it. His patience will not be exhausted, his power will not come short. You will never be left without God" - P.B. Power
18.01.2022 "At some point in my childhood, someone encouraged me to develop a character trait that I was apparently missing. I dont remember the exact context for the advice or even who presented the case, but the word used has always stuck with me. What I sorely needed was something called sticktoitiveness. https://ftc.co//b/sticktoitiveness-and-the-christian-life/
16.01.2022 We were privileged to have Jesse Gollan from Mansfield bring God's word to us this past Sunday, from 1 Peter 2:18-25. If you missed our livestream at 8:30am, you can now share our service recording on YouTube. Our technical team experienced a slight glitch - apologies in advance for a brief portion of Jesse's message which was lost in the process.
16.01.2022 COVID-19 Update Dear church family, As many of you may have seen or heard this morning, there has been an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Brisbane/Ipswich area. As a result, the Chief Health Officer has immediately updated the health directions in relation to number limits at public and private gatherings. ... We wanted to assure you that the Church is not required to follow the new restrictions as it has a COVID-Safe Plan in place which remains current, and which we will continue to follow. We still, of course, need to practice social distancing where possible while at the church facilities. And please, if you are feeling unwell at all, do not attend church. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Stay safe everyone! Blessings, Alix Executive Assistant to Session
16.01.2022 We're really thankful that in answer to prayer, the relaxed restrictions in Queensland mean that from Sunday 22nd November, we'll be now able to have up to 76 people at each of our Sunday morning services (up from 50) which will mean everyone will have an opportunity to worship every Sunday. It also means we've got even more extra seats for visitors! So if you've been joining us remotely online over the last few months and would like an opportunity to come and meet many of us and say hi in person, please message me here and I'd love to arrange a service when you can come and join us face to face! Pastor Andrew
15.01.2022 This Sunday at 9am, we'll be looking at Paul's instructions in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 to "Discern the Body". It's very timely for us to have reached this passage in our series through 1 Corinthians, as we intend to celebrate the Lord's Supper as a congregation on Sunday 9th August. We don't have any seats remaining at our in-person service at the church building for this week, but still seats remaining for the following week. So if you'd like to join us in-person for the Lord...'s Supper, please message me so I can reserve you seats. https://youtu.be/0oXC25DH7ow
14.01.2022 This Sunday at 9am, we're looking at 1 Corinthians 14:1-25 to see how the Speaking Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Prophecy and Tongues) were given to Strengthen Believers and Share the Gospel with Unbelievers. While we believe that these gifts have changed, the same principles and purposes are just as applicable today. Just us and found out how. https://youtu.be/fnxFmfHHNXo
14.01.2022 Rev Bert Kuipers, on location in India, sharing with us about the work of GOSPEL.
13.01.2022 "I am a master at identifying sin. I might be tempted to brag about that fact, except for this: While I’m a master at identifying the sin in other people, I’m a mere novice at identifying the sin in myself. And I don’t think I’m the only one. There seems to be something deeply embedded in sinful humanity that gives us the ability to spot the sin in others but to ignore it in ourselves. We can provide a thorough accounting of someone else’s flaws, but often only a cursory account of our own." https://www.challies.com/artic/a-master-at-identifying-sin/
13.01.2022 This Sunday we're returning to 1 Corinthians and reflecting on the Generous Gift that the church in Corinth provided for the poor in Jerusalem. God had given them so much, so how appropriate for them to bless others with generosity in kind. Our two morning services at our church building are full to the brim as usual, but you're welcome to join us on YouTube around 10am. 12.01.2022 Join us on Sunday at 9am as we resume our series in 1 Corinthians. We'll be reflecting on some difficult-to-understand instructions Paul gives the church in chapter 11 on head coverings in worship under theme of God's Glory in Worship. It looks like our numbers for our in-person service, which are currently capped at 50, have already been reached - but if you'd like to join us next week, let me know as we work through the congregation so that everyone can have an occasional opportunity to experience gathered worship again. https://youtu.be/_PVHFQc7MYs
12.01.2022 This Sunday, we're turning our attention to the last part of 1 Corinthians 14 and reflect on the theme of worshipping God in a fitting and orderly way. Lord willing, we'll be streaming our 8:30am service to the link below. If we run into technical issues (a distinct possibility the first time we livestream from the church!), we'll be recording the service as a backup and will upload it later in the morning. God bless,... Pastor Andrew https://youtu.be/UqiIUgetq6Y
12.01.2022 This Sunday we're turning to the Story of Ruth in a series that will take us right through to Christmas. Obviously the book of Ruth tells Ruth's own story, but it also tells the story of her God - his faithfulness, his sovereignty, and his unfailing love. The story begins even before Ruth enters the story, with a difficult providence faced by a struggling couple who choose to leave their home country and search for a better future elsewhere. Would you like to join us on Sunda...y at either our 8:30am or 10am services? Our worship capacity has just increased due to relaxations in the public health directions. That means you're even more welcome than always to join us for worship! Perhaps you've joined us online over recent months on YouTube, and you're now ready to meet our church family. Please message me if you'd like to do that so that we can reserve a seat for you. With Christian love, Pastor Andrew If you're at home and unable to get out and about to gather in person, you'll find our service uploaded to our YouTube channel by about 10am on Sunday morning. 10.01.2022 "The Christian life is a race. Running it requires focus and faith. There is a starting place for all runners: putting their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. And there is a specific destination: eternity with Jesus Christ. There is a start and there is an end, but what happens between the two? The author of Hebrews calls us to run the race with endurance. But each of us must run a specific coursethe race that is set before us (Heb. 12:1). The terrain affects the momentum with which we run and the effort we exert. The more challenging the obstacles in our way, the more endurance we need." https://unlockingthebible.org///running-unexpected-course/
10.01.2022 "God hasn't just sent you to do his work in the lives of your children; he will use the lives of your children to advance his work in you" - Paul David Tripp
10.01.2022 This Sunday at 9am, we're continuing in 1 Corinthians and will be reflecting on love in chapter 13. Is this just a nice interlude about love? Or is it still very much connected with the discussions in chapters 12 and 14 about spiritual gifts? Hint: it's the latter! https://youtu.be/YVVDGxhoy1g
10.01.2022 UPDATE: All available seats are now taken, although we could probably take a couple of extras in the foyer if youre super keen! In this season it's entirely expected that we have a few last-minute cancellations for our in-person service, as someone with a cold or sniffle follows the best health advice and stays home. That means we have 3 seats back as being available for our 9am in-person service. Message me if you'd like to reserve one (or all!) of them.
10.01.2022 Lord’s Supper This coming Sunday we plan to celebrate the Lord’s Supper at our 9am service. God’s Word calls us to prepare not only the physical elements, but also to examine ourselves before we eat the bread and drink of cup (1 Corinthians 11:28).... In the light of that we are called to ask ourselves these questions: Do I believe that my sins are forgiven only because my Lord sacrificed Himself for me on the cross? Is it my sincere desire to love God and my neighbour, and to serve them according to God’s Word? Pray that God will help you to see afresh His grace and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Pray that if anything is not right that you might, in repentance, know God’s mercy and grace to help you change.
09.01.2022 "When we pray, we usually end our prayers with in the name of Jesus (John 16:23). It is our custom. A habit. I heard a song recently that repeatsand repeatsa line about love for the name of Jesus. But if we repeat anything often enough, does it devolve into nonsense syllables? Psalm 23 uses the phrase, for his name’s sake. Does it slow you down or do you skip over it? A phrase like in the name of Jesus is too crammed with meaning to be spoken with little awareness of what is being said." https://www.ccef.org/in-the-name/
09.01.2022 "Jesus does not love like us. We love until we are betrayed. Jesus continued to the cross despite betrayal. We love until we are forsaken. Jesus loved through forsakenness. We love up to a limit. Jesus loves to the end" - Dane Ortlund
09.01.2022 Why is it so foundational to everything to know that Christ is Risen Indeed? Join us live on YouTube on Sunday at 8:30am to explore what the resurrection means for our future hope and a life lived boldly for Jesus. https://toowoombacrc.com/sermons/livestream/
08.01.2022 "When life caves in, broken and shattered souls need more than human kindness. They need God himself" - Harold Senkbeil
07.01.2022 "We don't get to pick the age we will live in, and we don't get to choose all the struggles we will face. Faithfulness is ours to choose; the shape of that faithfulness is God's to determine" - Kevin DeYoung
06.01.2022 "The world needs to see Christians burning, not with self-righteous fury at the sliding morals in our country, but with passion for God" - Kevin DeYoung
06.01.2022 This Sunday at 9am, we'll continue reflecting on the Spiritual Gifts and how God forms a diverse group of people like us into a united church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Unity in Diversity. 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 is our text. We don't have any seats remaining at our in-person service at the church building for this week, but if you'd like to join us in-person on another Sunday this month before we double our capacity by commencing a second morning service in September, please message me so I can reserve you seats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8185PaWVqA
05.01.2022 "Ive spent a great deal of time reflecting on Gods call to us to have a whole array of emotional responses to his world, from awe-filled delight (e.g., Ps. 8) to vehement hatred (e.g., Ps. 139:2123). How can we live up to this? Does God expect us to have perfect, instantaneous control over our emotions? No. God does not stand at a distance and command emotions we can never fully attain. Instead, he meets us with countless mercies, transforming our hearts and character, which always influences our emotions." https://www.ccef.org/engaging-our-emotions-engaging-god/
05.01.2022 "Hope is not a situation. Hope is not a location. Hope is not a possession. Hope is not an experience. Hope is more than an insight or a truism. Hope is a person, & his name is Jesus!" - Paul David Tripp
05.01.2022 "Spending meaningful time alone with God is one of the most important aspects of the Christian life, but it is also one of the most difficult to sustain. Failure in this area, real or perceived, is common and is guilt inducing for most Christians. We give many different reasons for our struggle: it bores us, it discourages us, its work, were busy with the things we really have to do, and so on. But I suspect the vast majority of our problem boils down to some version of a simple truth: it doesnt always feel good." https://www.ccef.org/five-ways-to-jump-start-your-devotions/
04.01.2022 "Jesus is not trigger-happy. Not harsh, reactionary, easily exasperated. He is the most understanding person in the universe. The posture most natural to him is not a pointed finger but open arms" - Dane Ortlund
04.01.2022 "There is more grace in God's heart than there is sin in your past" - Erwin Lutzer
03.01.2022 Rev. Bill Wiersma will be leading us in worship this Sunday, bringing us a message from the gospel of Luke. If you would like to find out what happened to Zacchaeus when he met Jesus, please join us! We also plan to celebrate the Lord's Supper during this service. We'd love for you to worship with us in person at 9am! If you plan to join us as a guest, please message so that we can take down contact tracing details ahead of time.... With Christian love, Pastor Andrew If you're at home and unable to get out and about to gather in person, you'll find our service uploaded to our YouTube channel by about 11am on Sunday morning. 03.01.2022 "I believe in a God who has decreed the length of my life and lovingly numbered my days, who has counted the hairs on my head (even when there were none to count he knew the dormant follicles that would spring back to life!), and who became flesh in order to suffer in that flesh for meso that I might look forward with joyful certainty to a new, eternal, incorruptible body."
03.01.2022 "Christians hold various opinions concerning the place of the Sabbath for Jesuss followers. However, I think we can all agree that consciously setting apart time to experience rest refreshes us, gives us a taste of what is to come, and it also makes us all the more conscious of the work we are called to do the remainder of the time. This too, is a reflection of a greater reality: our temporary Sabbath rests can remind us that we have much work to do so that others may hear the gospel, and may one day experience that Sabbath rest that is only possible through Jesus." https://jewsforjesus.org//the-sabbath-a-look-back-a-look-/
03.01.2022 "The Christian life is not always best lived by people making big waves" - Michael Gembola
02.01.2022 "So, let’s talk to this Lord. Let’s spend time in the presence of One who feels sympathy for us, and keep on approaching Him, boldly and with hope. Through Jesus, we can learn to be who we are who God sees us to be. We can begin to speak back to self-hatred and to lies. We can shelter forever in the warmth of His unchanging love." https://www.overflowchat.com/how-to-stop-hating-yourself/
01.01.2022 "We aim for something similar with the Lord. The better we know him, the more we see an intensity of love and majesty, of mercy, and infinite power. From his throne comes both gentleness and flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder (Rev 4:5). And you cant decide whether to fall down and worship or rush in and touch him. You do both. Thats fear of the Lord for today." https://www.ccef.org/the-fear-of-the-lord-for-today/
01.01.2022 "As a pastor, I deeply appreciate the women in my church. I definitely don’t tell them that often enough, but it’s important that we never take each other for granted." https://ap.org.au//ten-ways-women-serve-in-a-biblical-chu/
