25.01.2022 Our Shaving Cream activity was messy, sensory play at its best! We started off clean using the plain shaving cream in a tub to see what the children would do... Before long they were all happy to use their sense of TOUCH to feel & play with the shaving cream both inside and before long outside the tub. (Sensory play is unstructured/open ended play which encourages children to use their imaginations and sense of exploratory learning.... ) Next it was time to get messy and we... added some drops of food colouring... This again encouraged the children to use their sense of touch and imagination to do as they pleased to see what may happen and much excitement was had as the White cream begun to turn pink. Miss Keira then used her imagination to turn the activity into one of cooking... She was cooking pizza and took it upon herself to use drops of different coloured food colouring to improvise her use of adding different pizza ingredients... She happily added, mixed and enjoyed watching the shaving cream/pizza turn into different rainbow colours. This sensory activity encouraged the children to play together, to use their sense of touch, to use their imaginations, creativity play and the opportunity for self expression... 06.01.2022 In the recents weeks the kids have been showing interest in colours so last weeks activity were based on adding colour to things as well as mixing colours to make new colours.... Our first activity whilst enjoying the beautiful sunshine was Colouring Pasta to make necklaces... 1. The children all chose a colour they liked and poured the food colourings into the bag with pasta in it 2. We sealed the bags up and shook the bag until the pastas were all covered in colour 3. We t...hen put the pasta on some baking paper in the sun to dry out The children were all excited and interested to see that the pastas had all changed colour and interested to touch and feel the pasta for realisation... Even more excited when the tips of their little fingers had also changed to the same colour from the initially wet pasta. 4. Once the pasta was dry the children were able to use their fine motor skills as well as hand/eye co ordination to thread pasta onto pipe cleaners to make their own brackets and necklaces 5. Their was also an extension on this activity with some of the older children using their mathematical skills to count the number of pastas being used on their brackets/necklaces as well as using the different colours to make and follow different patterns See more

04.01.2022 After the boys raced cars and the girls did their butterfly finger painting, we needed to re- fuel! It was time for cooking some yummy apple muffins! We added the ingredients and all had fun mixing together... It was then time to take it in turns and watch each of our friends have a go at mixing- we were all so good at "taking turns " and the best part of all, the muffins were SO yummy as an after lunch treat!

02.01.2022 Amazing how much fun the kids had with a single tyre this week! PHYSICAL PLAY- Children develop their large movement skills, control, co ordination and strength as they explore physical play. Katy initiated this play by lifting up the tyre and climbing up and through and repeating it over and over. She really enjoyed this physical activity as it gives children opportunities to develop confidence in managing movement challenges such as balancing, climbing, crawling, bending or... stretching. This type of play helps children to become confident in their movement skills and to develop hand/eye and foot/eye co ordination. Manaia enjoyed the tyre also and using her imagination she invited her friends into her boat (tyre) and we all sang row, row, row your boat! Their was lots of fun and laughter had by all as the sang and jumped up and down sitting on the tyre. Nothing more rewarding than listening to the laughter of these kids having fun! Love my job :-)
