24.01.2022 A new year and new challenges! Let’s tick this one off

22.01.2022 Ride - Black River For anyone interested in social ride 30 - 34 km/h ride Saturday 19 September: Starting from in front of Top Brand shop at 0515. It is a "no drop ride" - all riders stop for punctures, mechanicals or regroups if required. If you have time constraints or you think this is too slow then maybe best you look at other possibilities. If you are leaving the ride before the planned finish point just let others know.... Rotation will be anti-clockwise, outside in when you want. It is not a paceline ride. (Other than down Black River Road if you are stretching out a bit of course) Ride out to Black River Road will be at or about 30km/h There will be instances of double or single file - obviously dependent on traffic and road conditions. Basically lead riders make the call - this prevents multiple calls and confusion. If you are in front be aware of the potentially limited visibility of the riders behind you and lag in getting restarted form traffic lights or other stops. If it is your first (or you have limited bunch ride experience please raise before start of ride - there is nothing to be embarrassed about - experienced riders are only too willing to help. Out to Black River Road via Hervey Range Road. If riders are leaving to do the Range, please position yourself in the inboard line of riders, preferably at the rear, prior to Black River Road turnoff. The bunch will slow down to ensure the turn into Black River Road is done safely. There will be sprints/increased speed groups along Black River Road. A regroup and water/gel opportunity at the Highway. Single line while on the Highway to Mount Low Parkway. Turn down Mount Low Parkway then right into North Shore Blvd. Left at highway to Bohle and Ingham Road. Option for coffee at Traders in Garbutt or continue onto Strand/Castle Hill/Pallarenda if others are extending the ride.

21.01.2022 Ride - Dam and Bushies For anyone interested in a social ride 30 - 34 km/h ride Saturday 3 October 2020: Starting from in front of Top Brand shop at 0515. It is a "no drop ride" - all riders stop for punctures, mechanicals or regroups if required. If you have time constraints or you think this is too slow then best you look at other possibilities.... Rotation will be anti-clockwise, outside in when you want to rotate. It is not a paceline ride for the complete route. There is a bit of highway/main road access so be aware. There will be instances of double or single file - obviously dependent on traffic and road conditions. Route will from the meeting point above out to the Dam. Return via Gollogly Lane, Beck Drive, Kalynda, Shaw Road and North Shore Boulevard to Bushland Beach. Those who are are keen can do killer hill (Goicoechea) and others continue on to the beach area for water and gel. There will be a regroup at the bus stop just after the roundabout. Return via North Shore Blvd, Highway, Boyle and Ingham Rd. Finish in the Garbutt area for some or continue on to Strand/Pallarenda/Castle etc with like minded riders.

15.01.2022 Are you insured as a bike rider? We have done some research and there are some great personal bike insurances available for bike riders which cover loss of earnings, third party damage as well as non-medicare costs and other great benefits - and they are great value for money for example $11.49 per month for one, or $16.49 to cover the family with Bicycle Network. https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/me/bike-riding-insurance/ https://bq.org.au/bike-riding-insurance/ https:/.../www.auscycling.org.au/membership - https://vinsurancegroup.com//2020-2021_TriathlonAust_Summa - Triathlon Australia This list is not exhaustive and are we not recommending any insurance in particular but we would highly recommend signing up for something! it may be a good idea to do your own research to find out which one is more suitable for your bike riding requirements. This is NOT bike insurance.

08.01.2022 All the frustration we sometimes have with negative comments from drivers (and let’s not forget also poor decisions made by cyclists) is quickly forgotten when ...you experience the camaraderie we enjoy in our bunch rides and the people we meet. Most will probably recall Andrew Simpson’s incident with a pig carcass left on the Port Access Road in August 2019 and his (and his family’s) still ongoing battle to deal with his injuries and rehabilitaion. He is still unable to do almost everything we take for granted, most importantly to be with wife Nat and their lovely girls. Andrew was finally after about 18 months in hospital able to join us for coffee this morning. He was so pleased to have the cycling community and fellow riders around him albeit with some limited opportunity to communicate. Everyone was so involved in being with Andrew simple communication we take for granted didn’t matter. It just highlighted how fortunate we are to be in this city with the closer contacts, concern, interest and cyclists have. Today was a good start to the Xmas period for me to witness this coffee session and so much appreciation for those that joined Andrew and those that would have joined in had they known. He was over the moon The photo says it all In the same vein, we have had fellow cyclists beat off the deadly C with amazing determination and courage (we all know one of them hey Gill) and others that have experienced issues that they confront and take head on. COVID not good - but I think Townsville Bunch Rides members are good
