23.01.2022 Today for National Science Week we're celebrating the scientists of tomorrow! And it just so happens that some of them are currently on display in our Top Desig...ns 2020 virtual exhibition. Meet the Skittles Sorter, created by Jovial Singh Chattrath from Kambrya College, Berwick. Jovial is one of our Systems Engineering exhibitors. "In daily life, people often experience situations that require objects to be sorted by varying attributes, such as size, weight and colour. Automatic sorting by colour involves the use of sensors, which detect the different colours and assign values to each one. These values can be used by a microcontroller and relevant operations are then conducted to sort the objects. This technology is already applied in various industries such as agriculture, where it is used for vegetable sorting and separating defective rice grains and cereals. I have created a Skittles Sorter to streamline the process of making complex foods, such as cakes, that require one specific colour of ingredient from a multipack. This idea came from when my mother asked me to separate a packet of Skittles into different colours for a cake that required just one colour for the icing." You can read more about the Skittles Sorter and other fantastic Systems Engineering projects from budding young scientists in the Top Designs 2020 virtual experience: https://fal.cn/39Nfc

21.01.2022 "I focused on cohesion in my design, as all prop pieces are run-down, damaged, or old-looking. This is in keeping with the theme of Mrs Lovett's filthy characte...r and successfully creates the environment of the run-down areas of London during the 19th century." Ashley Miron on the set pieces she designed for Stephen Sondheim's musical tragedy Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. You can now view Ashley's work under Theatre Studies, alongside the rest of the Top Designs exhibition in our new virtual experience: https://fal.cn/37RLp

11.01.2022 "Tamron Gotchi is an animator struggling to keep up with the copious amounts of work required of him. Collapsing at his desk and falling asleep, a dream sequenc...e begins where his animation comes to life. "In making this film, I hoped to create a fantastical and satirical glimpse into teh work life of a typical millennial - in this case, an animator. I wanted to elicit tension from the audience and call viewers to reflect on times they have rushed towards a deadline." Hugo DiMattina on his film piece 'Tamagotchi', currently screening as part of Top Designs alongside other outstanding work from VCE and VCE VET students of 2019.
