21.01.2022 ORIENTAL CUCKOO. An uncommon visitor to northern and eastern Australia from Mongolia, China and Japan. Other migratory members of the cuckoo family, Eastern Koel and Channel-billed Cuckoo breed in Australia but Oriental Cuckoo is a non-breeding migrant. This juvenile was frequenting a garden in Katherine NT.
19.01.2022 APOSTLEBIRDS occur in the NT and much of eastern Australia however a wide gap in their distribution in the Gulf of Carpentaria separates the NT and eastern populations. Wandering parties are occasional visitors to our garden on the bank of the Katherine River.

08.01.2022 BLUE-WINGED KOOKABURRA. The female has a cane toad. Observed at this perch for 35 minutes, the toad wasn't eaten in that time, perhaps later but the pair still frequent our yard, Katherine NT.

01.01.2022 A morning with finches. Always nice to see good numbers of young Gouldians.
01.01.2022 SPANGLED DRONGO. A rarely seen bird around Katherine when we arrived in the early 1970's, they have increased over time and are now present year round.
