Job vacancies have suffered their biggest collapse in history with new figures revealing huge falls in the number of people working in key industries over the past three months. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed vacancies alone fell by 43 per cent in the three months to May. 12.01.2022 Disappointing news. The scourge of COVID-19 continues. The nation shed another 227,000 jobs in May, with the unemployment rate reaching 7.1 per cent, its highest level since 2001. The Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday revealed the country has now lost more than 824,000 jobs over the past two months, taking employment down to where it stood in March of 2017. Unemployment lifted from an upwardly revised 6.4 per cent in April.
08.01.2022 Employment news: Unemployment spiked in every state and territory, but is worse in Queensland and South Australia. The unemployment rate is now 6.8 per cent in Queensland and 7.2 per cent in South Australia. NSW's jobless rate hit 6 per cent, up from 4.9 per cent, while in Victoria it also reached 6 per cent after being at 5.2 per cent in March.... Western Australia's rate is now 6 per cent in Western Australia, it is 6.2 per cent in Tasmania, 6 per cent in the NT and 4.2 per cent in the ACT. Australia has suffered its single largest monthly fall in the number of people holding a job, with a record 594,000 drop in the number of workers through April.
