21.01.2022 Monday Meal Ideas - Oven Roasted Chips. For more than 50 of our favourite Mediterranean recipes, get your FREE Top Shelf cookbook by following this link http://bit.ly/jointopshelf Pre-heat oven to 200C. Wash and peel 4-6 large potatoes. Cut them into chips. Smash 8-10 garlic cloves, leave skin on. In a large, heavy based roasting dish (you may need two), add the chips, garlic, 2-3 sprigs of rosemary, enough extra virgin olive oil to coat all the chips, season with salt, pepper and dried oregano. Toss well so everything is combined. Cook for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. Toss half way otherwise your chips will look like theyve fallen asleep on their side at the beach. ProTip - line the dish with baking paper to make for easier cleaning.

FRUIT First up in fruit, Large black plums have started. Grown just outside Swan Hill in Beverford, In the heart of Sunraysia country, Black plums have a dark red skin, And also have a sweet and semi hard red flesh. Very juicy too. Also started from Victoria, We’ve got blackberries. Grown very close by in Ravenhall, Just 20km west of the Melbourne CBD... The first batch of the season ate well And were extremely well priced, Cheapest of all the berries. In other fruit news, Passionfruit bags are one of our most popular lines And we’ve got decent supply coming through. And for stone fruit fans There is extra large apricots And I mean extra large! These extra large apricots we got in are almost the size of a nectarine or peach And they’re not short on flavour either. They are a little pricier than the regular sizes apricots, But we will continue to stock both, As I know a lot of you love the larger stone fruit. Plenty of other good news in fruit as well, With Cherries improving in price, As too are peaches and nectarines. Finally, There’s very good supply of large Queensland KP mangoes. VEGGIES First up in veggie news, Queensland corn is abundant... Priced fantastically... And eating quality is superb. It could easily be my pick of the week But I’ve left that to another Victorian, Which I will mention shortly. Before I do A quick mention of tomatoes. Truss, vine, gourmet and sweet truss are all well priced, And eating great. We’ve also got some great coloured heirloom Adelaide Toms, That look and taste amazing. So back to my pick of the week Of the green and herbed variety, Mint! Our mint bunches are generous, The quality of the leaf is perfect And the smell and flavour attention grabbing. Mint is excellent as a garnish, Superb in salads... Great in jellies and sauces, Perfect in pies and pastries And absolutely a must in all beverages adult! That’s all for this week’s update. 20.01.2022 Monday Meal Ideas... home made cheese burgers! For more than 50 of our favourite Mediterranean recipes, get your FREE Top Shelf cookbook by following this link http://bit.ly/jointopshelf for the patties, I use 250gm beef & 250gm pork mince, 1 large egg, 2 tbs tomato sauce, 1 tbs dijon mustard, 1 tbs worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, dry oregano, 1 cup bread crumbs, 1 medium onion finely chopped and sauted gently in olive oil. Gently combine all the ingredients (dont add ho...t onion to egg as it will cook) except the crumbs and combine gently then slowly add the bread crumbs so you have an even mixture. This make around 6 good sized patties. Set them aside for at least 30 minutes. Prepare add-ons like smashed avo (avo, salt, pepper, lemon), cooked onions or fries. Cook patties in a large heavy based pan on a medium high heat, wait until you have nice charred color then flip over, and put a slice of cheese on top of the patties for those that want cheeseburgers. Fresh or toasted buns work well plus home made french fries for most satisfied customers! See more

Bruschetta For more than 50 of our favourite Mediterranean recipes, get your FREE Top Shelf cookbook by following this link http://bit.ly/jointopshelf It's nice and sunny in Melbourne today, our restrictions have eased a little, and we're feeling like something light, bright and full of flavour! Enter bruschetta...... This is more like tomato and basil on toast, it's simple, and there is nowhere to hide where flavour is concerned, so you need to get your hands on the best quality tomatoes you can! Dice them up, drizzle over some olive oil, season with salt and pepper and give it a good old gentle stir. Heat a grill pan over medium heat. Slice a french stick into 2 cm slices on an angle and brush over some garlic-infused olive oil. Place them on the grill until lightly charred. Spoon on the tomatoes and top with a few small basil leaves. TIP: You can use any infused olive oil your like, Truffle Oil is tasty too! We've used Tenuta Fragassi Tenuta Fragassi

16.01.2022 This week's pick of the week is Rhubarb. The queen of the crumble, Rhubarb is used mostly in desserts or compotes. When eaten raw, the stems are quite tart, And while we sell them with their leaves still attached,... It's best to discard them. They're very high in oxalic acid, Much higher than the stems! We can remove the leaves for you when you're in if you ask. See more

16.01.2022 Before I get into this weeks update, a reminder that as of this week, we are extending our delivery zone to 8km from our store on Tuesday and Wednesday only. The standard 6km delivery from store continues on every other weekday. Now for this weeks update. FRUIT First up in fruit,... NSW raspberries have finally come back in price, After having hit a peak some weeks back. They are very good eating berries... As are the NSW large blueberries, Which have been the standout berry this past month. QLD strawberries complete the berry trifecta! As I mentioned last week, I suspected they may come back in price, And at the time of writing they are on special, And will continue to be while stocks last. I should note, Although ours are a little more dear than supermarket brands, Our variety of strawberries are superior, And you wont find them at supermarkets as they are exclusive to green grocers. Finally in fruit, After plenty of challenges following a cold snap early in the month, QLD Bananas have finally come back in price And are eating exceptionally, Making them my pick of the week. VEGGIES First up in veggies, Victorian grown baby asparagus have started. They are tender, sweet and crunchy all at the same time. And thats why I much prefer these to regular sized asparagus. The key with baby asparagus is to cook them for as short a time as possible, in a little olive oil on a hot pan or skittle... To allow the asparagus to retain all its freshness and crunch. In other veggie news, Victorian grown cauliflower have come back a little in price Offering great value, And excellent eating. Also from Victoria, Brussels sprouts are still going strong. Theyve had a bumper season and are a really good option while theyre still around. Thats all for this weeks update Ciao Joe Russo Foodie | 3rd Generation Green Grocer

They continue to eat well, And are still the best of the berries. VEGGIES First up in veggie news Some much needed relief for cucumber fans. Both continentals and Lebanese varieties have come down in price, With the warmer weather really being appreciated by growers. There is still a long way to go until peak season, But it is a good start. In other veggie news, Last weeks pick of the week, Locally grown asparagus, Has become abundant in supply. We'll deliver your groceries right to your door! Email your order to [email protected] FRUIT First up in fruit, Soursop is in! It's a green prickly fruit that has been compared to pineapple and strawberries. The flesh is creamy and robust. To eat them, cut them in half lengthwise, And scoop out the flesh. Soursop is high in antioxidants, And many cultures use them for medicinal purposes. Next up in fruit is the Pomelo! It's a citrus fruit that comes from the grapefruit family. The pith is quite bitter, so cut away as much as you can. They're great to add to fruit salad. Pomelos are often used in Asian celebrations. The juice is great for tenderising meat if you add it to a marinade. And the skin can be made into an excellent marmalade, In the same way you would use the orange rind to make it. Finally, in fruit, this week is the Gold Kiwi. This New Zealand variety is considered one of the best kiwi fruit. Do you know you can also eat its skin? So people do, some people don't, Even in our store, we have staff who do eat it and staff who don't eat it! Remove the small white core and eat the rest! VEGGIES First up in veggies is beetroot! I've always loved how beetroot is so dark and rough on the outside, Then when you slice it open, it's glossy and sleek. Beets are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. They're great roasted and in burgers and salads. Add the younger leaves to your next salad! For something different, Fioretto are in! They're a cauli blossom. If you ask the grower or check out the package, They'll tell you it's the cauliflowers elegant, good-looking cousin! I'll let you decide that on one! The stalks are light green and crisp, And the blossoms are small and tender. They look great on the plate! This week's pick of the week is Rhubarb. The queen of the crumble, Rhubarb is used mainly in desserts or compotes. When eaten raw, the stems are quite tart, And while we sell them with their leaves still attached, It's best to discard them. They're very high in oxalic acid, Much higher than the stems! We can remove the leaves for you when you're in if you ask. That’s all for this week’s update, Ciao Joe Russo Foodie | 3rd Generation Green Grocer

01.01.2022 Rapini, also known as broccoli rabe... are a Sicilian collard green, that are slightly bitter in taste and can be eaten stem, leaf and all. They flower a little like a broccoli, are more bitter in taste than silverbeet or spinach and are jam packed of fibre, antioxidants and vitamins and minerals. you can boil them and serve simple with olive oil, salt and lemon. you can finely chop them and saute them as a wonderful addition to rice or other grains. or you can add them to a pie or pasta, for some extra goodness.
