23.01.2022 Happy 70th Birthday Sensei Terry

23.01.2022 Last class yesterday, until all is well in the world again. Thank you to those who attended. It is hard to close the dojo, only once in almost three decades has the dojo closed and become unavailable for students to attend. We will definitely all miss our usual routine of dojo life, and most of all we will miss each other. Tora's unity as a big karate family is such a powerfully positive experience. My Father, Sensei Steve, would be absolutely delighted that his legacy...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Some fierce faces from todays junior 2020 Tora Tournament. Well done to all who participated

14.01.2022 I am extremely happy to announce, due to the early lifting of restrictions announced by the Tas Government today, I will be re-opening the dojo for classes as of this Monday June 8th. Due to this Monday being a public holiday: 4:30pm kids class will not be on. 6:30pm adult class will be running, juniors are welcome to attend. ... Kids classes will resume with normal timetable of Wednesday June 10th. Until further notice, due to regulations: Changerooms will be closed so please arrive to training in uniform. Please inform me if this isn't possible for you/your child. Spectators arent permitted during classes, so drop off and pick up only by parents/carers. Hands and feet must be thoroughly cleaned before class so please have either some hand sanitiser, or antibacterial wipes to ensure thorough hygiene. I also suggest having your own tissues. Anybody with ANY flu like symptoms MUST NOT enter the dojo, and must keep away from training for obvious reasons. Social distancing measures will be practised before, during and after classes so please ensure you keep practising these whilst in the dojo. There will be no partnered exercises during training for the time being. I look forward to seeing you all again, to recommencing classes and to reconnecting with the Tora family. Oss!

11.01.2022 Hoping everyone is doing well, keeping busy (but also relaxing), staying healthy, being kind, and above all..feeling happy We now have 2 weekly online Zoom lessons available, instructed by Sensei David Wigger 5th Dan. Classes are available for all Tora students, past and present. Please download the 'Zoom' app on your phone/tablet/laptop in order to participate. Links for the sessions will be posted in the next few days in our closed group facebook page. Please send a ...request to join if you arent already a part of that. Lessons are as follows: Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm -->Beginners. Saturdays 6:30-8:00pm -->Advanced. **All levels are welcome to every session, however Saturdays will obviously be more difficult and suitable for higher ranks. Zoom allows participants to exit the broadcasted class at any time, should you find it too difficult. Zoom allows disgression as an option, if you wish to hide yourself/your child, and still be able to participate but not be seen by others in the lesson. Obviously online instruction is a completely different dynamic to a class environment, so please just follow along and don't worry too much in regards to 'getting everying correct', just have a go and have fun! Sensei David has been successfully running these popular classes for several weeks now, with students from across the world participating. So please feel free to join in. Oss

11.01.2022 I am pleased to announce that according recent government announcements regarding the gradual lifting of restrictions, Tora Shotokan may be open again mid-late June. Restrictions will allow a maximum of 20 instructors/students in the dojo at a time, with no spectators. This will mean that upon the dojo resuming classes again, drop off and pick up only will be allowed for juniors/students attending classes. This is unfortunate as Tora always welcomes any family members and ...friends of students to spectate classes at any time. We will most certainly welcome back parents/visitors etc into the dojo to watch class as soon as regulations allow. Tora Shotokan annually offers quarterly Seminar/Grading opportunities held in: January (Tora Week) April (Weekend Seminar & Gradings) July (W/S&G) October (W/S&G) Due to the recent regulatory temporary dojo closure, our April Seminar/Grading weekend was cancelled. Provided restrictions remain lifted after June and continue into July, we at Tora plan to catch up on missed time by hosting more regular seminars throughout the remainder of 2020. However, considering the regulatory maximum amount of 20 instructors/students in the dojo at any one time, we will endevour to work out a different plan of our usual seminar process so that all students/ranks will have the opportunity to attend. Months for those will most likely be: July September November Exact dates will be annouced once confirmed. We are very much looking forward to reopening and reconnecting with everyone. Oss

07.01.2022 Kata with Sensei Cameron

04.01.2022 Due to concerns regarding the current COVID-19 virus situation, Tora Shotokan Karate will be closing on Saturday until further notice until the decision is made in which we feel it is safe and healthy to return to training. This also means that April's Seminar/Grading weekend is also cancelled. Medical professionals/experts are now advising the Tasmanian community to begin social distancing in order to slow down the spread. Obviously this is practically impossible to do in ...a martial arts/sporting environment. We are presently planning approximately a 2-4 week closure, if the situation improves, we aim to re-open as soon as is possibly safe. However, if community spreading of the virus is still a high risk, the dojo will continue to stay closed until it has improved. Updates and info regarding this will be posted on our Facebook Business page, on the Tora Facebook Group page and also on signage which will be attached on the dojo entry door. Alternatively, I can be contacted on: 0407 884 316 for any further enquiries/concerns, and also for information as to when classes may resume again. It is a very unfortunate decision, and we understand that for many of you..the dojo is like a second home. But we must take measures possible to protect ourselves, and also each other from possible exposure to the virus. I highly suggest students continuing some form of karate training at home, in their own time for a minimum of once per week for at least 30mins, until classes resume. If you need ideas on how to do this, or need a personal at-home class plan, please feel free to contact me and i will inform you on how to do this. Please pass this information on to anyone else from the dojo who may not know of our temporary closure. This Friday and Saturday classes will still be on, however Saturday class will be the last until further notice. Regards, Sensei Ana.

03.01.2022 First class back after 3 months. Very nice to be at training last night.

03.01.2022 In regards to the current COVID-19 situation, Tora Shotokan Karate remains running as normal for the time being. We have implemented stage 1 at the moment, meaning that: Distancing of 1.5 meters is being practised in the dojo and during training. No partner work, bag work or exercises that require close contact are being avoided. Students are required to wash hands thoroughly before, and also after class. Sanitisers have been placed around the dojo also. ... Anyone, of any age, who has any symptoms is to remain away from the dojo for 14 days. Anyone, of any age, who has had contact with any person with symptoms, is to remain away from the dojo also for 14 days. Please also be aware of closeness proximity in the changing rooms, it is advised to arrive at training already in uniform if possible to avoid closeness in the changing rooms. No hugging or hi-fives. We are closely watching the situation and monitoring it further, and will not hesitate to move to stage 2; being closure of the dojo for several weeks/months if the situation worsens in the community.
