25.01.2022 We are heading into winter golf again - with any luck in Victoria ! It's time for my usual plea for golfer to NOT trap their clubs in a bag with a rain hood up after they come home from golf. A rain hood will act to create a mini-"sauna" that traps moisture in with the clubs, especially after play on wet fairways. That moisture will penetrate the core of steel shafts and will promote pitting of those shafts. The same moist air promotes the development of corrosion in the... cavities of club heads. The pictures below show corrosion that was happily able to be removed with some high tech chemicals before the clubs had deteriorated too far. The corrosion shows as: - black spots in face grooves; - minor pitting of the chrome surface on steel shafts: - rust spots developing in the hollow cavity backs of iron heads. Quite simply, that corrosion can change a $400 set of irons into a $50 set of Opp Shop junk. The lesson is - take the clubs out of the bag when you get home, dry them with an old towel and leave them in a dry part of the house until you play again - NOT as a damp package in the garage !

25.01.2022 Hi there to Lawn Bowlers on the Mornington Peninsula. Our post advising that we have stepped away from the Lawn Bowls market has reached many bowlers in the area. However, it seems that many Bowls Clubs have not spread the word to their members that there are some bargains to be had from our range of Club uniform clothing items that are offered at wholesale price plus postage (no postage costs to purchases in shop). If you have relatives or friends who would be looking for new uniform items for the next season, it is worth checking what we have left in stock - the prices are well below retail. I hope we can help.

24.01.2022 Good morning all. Calling all new golfers or golfers wanting a simple "half set" with buggy that works well for those who want a quick 9 holes without pulling a full weight package. This package as shown in the pictures includes a PowerBilt Protrac #4 hybrid with Regular graphite, 5, 7, PW & SW PowerBilt Genesis irons with Regular steel, Cougar FC-02 putter, Proline 7 inch bag and Powerbilt fuld-up buggy. Every item is in 9/10 condition and well throw in some balls and tees to get back onto the course (whenever!). We need $225 for the package.

22.01.2022 Another stunning Classic 9 inch (diameter) Staff Bag, this time a Brosnan Golf bright red package, with strap and cover. This one is slightly younger that the Cobra bag I have listed today and will guarantee to draw attention around the Clubhouse and the first Tee! This bag has spent all its time in a Pro Shop display and has not been out to play. It is in as new condition, top to toe. I need $175 for this one.

22.01.2022 To all our customers who might need postal or Courier delivery to their address, we have moved on since Australia Post has admitted that it is just too hard to find a solution for us to send longer golf clubs by Post. Logic is totally missing from their Policy decision given that they receive, sort and deliver incoming parcels of the same size from overseas !! One day their stupidity will catch up with them, However, in the meantime we have found a Courier service that match...es AusPost services or beats them for price and service for 90% of deliveries. So for those of our customers who would have previously had Postal delivery from us, you may now receive a Courier delivery from Couriers Please, FastWay or other Couriers that offer competitive service. I feel really sorry for our local hard working LPO (Licensed Post Office) owner who is going to lose thousands of dollars turnover a year due to AusPost short-sighted policies. For those individuals who want to ship items they have sold on line, feel free to give us a call if they cant send a parcel over 105cm through AusPost.

20.01.2022 It's Tuesday and it could be the last good weather for a week or two - 13 degrees forecast later this week !! That may keep golfers indoors but is always a good time to check out the market online for uncommon offers. Today I have another nearly brand new classic - a COBRA Golf blue and white 10 inch (diameter) golf bag with original carry strap and hood, all in nearly new condition. This one has spent almost all its life on display before coming to us and would be a great a...ddition to the family room in a golfing home! I need $175 for this one - in nearly new condition.

18.01.2022 To all our on-line customers - a heads up regarding delivery costs. On 19 June, we were advised by our local Post Office that the Manager of the AusPost Seaford Sorting Centre had advised that they would no longer accept parcels that were longer than 105cm. The Policy is not new, but for the last 7 years, they have been happy to receive a total of around 7000 parcels from us, representing around $100,000 postage revenue that has been fed through our local Post Office in Rose...bud Beach. We have had great service from that Licensed Post Office (LPO). The reasons provided by the Seaford Sorting Centre related at first to "Occupational Health and Safety" and the "welfare of their staff". Heaven only knows how parcels that are no longer than 125cm and weigh on average 1 Kg can be an OHS risk ??? The second reason related to the size of the crates that are used in the sorting Centre to move parcels. There is no logic to this given that they must continue to handle, sort and deliver incoming parcel from overseas. Indeed, we receive multiple such parcels through the AusPost StarTrack service which has great drivers and provides excellent delivery service. It seems to me that AusPost hasnt read its own marketing material in which it claims to have a strategic objective to be the leading fulfillment channel in the new age of eBusiness. They had better have another Committee meeting to work out what that means in reality. In the meantime, TornysGolf Warehouse will continue to use AusPost for small packages but all larger parcels will need to go by Courier with some resulting cost increases to customers in remote areas. WELL DONE (NOT !) AUSTRALIA POST.

18.01.2022 For all golfers, (and golfers partners) - dont miss our sale of new release golf clothing ex-display samples from top brands, new and unmarked, at less than half retail ! The range of ladies items is excellent and the mens golf shirts are moving fast. Its worth dropping in. Winter wont last for ever !

18.01.2022 To all the Lawn Bowlers out there on the greater Mornington Peninsula, I hope that your Committee passed on the advice that we were moving out of the Lawns Bowls market to focus again on golf and golfers. We advised all Bowls Clubs in writing in early April but are still amazed at the number of Bowlers coming to the shop who have heard nothing from their Committee ????? Our stock clearance of Bowls uniforms and other items is proceeding well and on-line sales of our remaining uniform items have been steady. Bowlers who are looking for a clothing bargain will have only a a few weeks of opportunity left.

16.01.2022 THE BIGGEST GOLF BALL Following our relocation to our warehouse location more than 3 years ago, we have had our original one metre golf ball in storage, pending installation. We have concluded that it doesnt work for our current location so, it has to go. As shown in the pictures, this is a one metre diameter advertising / signage golf ball, with a steel post through its core , suitable for mounting as part of external signage, and two rectangular panels that are designed t...o mount signage for the relevant business. Of note is that when it was outside our previous shop, it was a reference point in the "Pokemon Go" App which attracted attention from players of that game taking selfies around midnight at weekends !!! This is an ideal signage feature for Golf Clubs, driving ranges, mini-golf, X-Golf or retailers looking for a signature signpost. It is available from our warehouse in Capel Sound for $250 - will need a ute or twin cab to collect!

15.01.2022 Heads up - as at Friday 17 July, we DO have push buggies in stock, brand new from $265. These are excellent fold-up models that are still well priced. These are limited in number and the suppliers are under pressure from everywhere. I have three remaining in store as at 6.00pm 17/07

14.01.2022 Some people will already be aware that the prices of new Lithium Battery powered golf buggies has dropped significantly in the last 3-4 months with top brands now offering new Lithium powered models from as low as $1049. Warranties are now extended with extended warranty of the Lithium battery up to 5 years. We now have stock of the latest Powerkaddy and MGI Zip electric buggies that are well worth checking out.

14.01.2022 As part of our sale of classic Staff Bags, today's offering is an excellent (8/10 condition) PING i3 Series 9 inch (internal diameter) bag with classic 6-way internal dividers. The bag has 4 zippered compartments and comes with the original matching rain hood. The bag has minor signs of use but is overall in excellent condition. We need $99 for this one.

11.01.2022 Hi folks - the "Shop Now" button is now working (as of Tuesday 5.00pm. Ebay technical issues were the problem...this button will by-pass the very busy front landing page of Ebay and will take you straight to our "Ebay Shop" with 350+ items listed - more to follow this weekend!

11.01.2022 SO HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HOLD STOCK IN A BOWLS SHOP ?? Any small business retailer has to choose the profile and size of any inventory that is held to meet anticipated demand. The calculation that counts is that which identifies how much has had to be committed to anticipated sales that never happen. In a small market size, such as Lawn bowls, the accumulated costs of that type are significant. In many retail business models, a turnover rate of 4 turns per year is a min...imum target to ensure that the holding costs of inventory are recovered. That just has not happened for many years for most of the significant items of lawn bowls inventory in small Bowls shops in Victoria. While a number of low priced small consumables or groceries as we call them, do in fact turn over regularly and justify the space they take on the shelves, more significant items including uniform clothing, bowls shoes and hats are simply not replaced frequently by bowlers and commonly a significant proportion of original inventory is unsold at end of the season. In fact we have found that as much as 10% of uniform clothing does not survive an extended period in a shop display mostly due to deterioration of the elastic with age. That stock is discarded but is of course an additional cost overhead for stock that is sold. Lawn bowls sets themselves offer the business the smallest margin on sale and a predictable depreciation over time as a the date Stamp on each set approaches that date on which it is superceded. Few small lawn bowls businesses will now hold stock of new lawn bowls sets due to the significant wholesale cost of each set and the very narrow margin on sale at a retail price advertised by the manufacturer. The costs of maintaining stock of various coloured lawn bowls uniforms for the clubs on the Peninsula would surprise most bowls customers. If for example, a shop holds a total inventory of 240 bowls uniform clothing items for men and women covering all style options and 8 colours, that inventory would cost approximately $10,000 and would represent only one third of the size / colour / style options relevant to that market. Almost by definition, that suggests that the shop would not be holding stock to supply two thirds of customer requests and additional stock orders would be required. Some customers will wait, others will go elsewhere. See more

11.01.2022 Do you enjoy driving around in a well dented car? Probably not? Why do some golfers seem to take no interest in the damage to their expensive forged irons as a result of "bag chatter" i.e. the result of the clubs banging together in the golf bag during play, sometimes helped by the frustrated golfer ramming their golf club into the bag? In addition to the swing marks on the soles, those tiny "dings" as shown here in the photos of a set of Mizuno irons can cost hundreds of $$$... in lost value when it comes to selling an otherwise top quality set. A lot of golfers just cant be bothered using iron covers but it takes only 5 seconds to put the cover on an iron before moving to the next shot. An alternative is to put covers on alternate clubs so that there is at least some buffer between clubs in the bag. Some golf bags offer systems that hold clubs apart - no rattling or banging together. We often have to give the sad news to customers who are genuinely surprised to find that their trusty set of irons is now only worth a fraction of original cost due to cosmetic damage. Would you expect a good price for a badly dented car?

09.01.2022 Another brand new premium brand Staff bag - this time a Wilson Staff 9.5 in x 7.5 in white and "Wilson Staff Red" . The bag has 7 zippered compartments, a five-way divider and comes with the new original custom hood and shoulder strap. This bag was rescued from a Retail Golf Shop that closed in the last 12 months. The bag is unmarked and has spent its life on display with a Retail price tag of $299. We are asking half that at $150. ... The bag is on display in our Warehouse outlet in Thamer St, Capel Sound.

08.01.2022 BOWLS CLUB SPONSORSHIPS ADVERTISING? OR SHARED BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT? Our experience of sponsorships was varied over the 6 years of our involvement. At the outset, 6 years ago, we received approaches from representatives of many clubs requesting a range of contributions that included variously cash payments (never an option- tell im hes dreamin), annual fees for placing signage (produced at our cost) on site at the club, annual fees for brand promotion of our business... in the club syllabus and/or on the Club website, or a series of Prize Vouchers that the Club could use. As with all businesses, revenues received are allocated against a range of business cost categories including costs of goods sold, rent and other fixed costs, wages, other semi-fixed operating costs, and finally a small proportion is hopefully available to invest in advertising and business development. Sponsorships fall into this last category, which in a small business will rarely reach 5% of receipts. If that 5% was to be committed to sponsorships, a $300 per annum sponsorship for signage would require turnover of $6000 to break even on that sponsorship commitment. In effect, that arrangement would otherwise require all aspects of our business to trade profitably to support the payment of that item. Unfortunately, the total support from members of that club fell a long way short of a good investment. This issue is not unique to Bowls Clubs. We are aware of another Peninsula Sports business that was approached to renew an annual sponsorship but declined due to the business records that showed only 5 club members had visited his shop in the previous year. Sponsorships do have potential to be mutually beneficial but after the last 6 years, I recommend caution in developing expectations of business growth... See more

07.01.2022 Interested in an electric golf buggy bargain in anticipation of return to golf? We have a couple of excellent value buggies in great shape: A Motocaddy S1 Pro Lithium powered buggy with seat, umbrella holder and sand bucket hoop. Of course it comes with battery and charger. This one works perfectly $699 for a warehouse sale; and an MGI Navigator NVR570c full remote control, lithium powered buggy, with seat and umbrella holder. This one is well used but works well with full remote function. Comes with battery and charger. This one was $2000 new but is offered here at $499. Both of these are in the warehouse - happy to demonstrate.

05.01.2022 Its that time of year to remind golfers that it is NOT a good idea to store golf clubs in their golf bag with the hood over the clubs. While it may keep dust off the clubs , it also traps moist air in the bag with the clubs. The result over time is condensation and rust of the steel shafts when moist enters the shaft through the small hole in the grip. In the last month we have seen at least 6 sets of clubs that have stainless steel heads in great condition but obvious bre...ak-through rust and pitting of the chrome surface of the shafts. Apart from the appearance, the value of the set of clubs can be halved - thats often over $200 of lost value that could have been saved. After a round of golf, especially if it has rained, the clubs should ideally be taken out of the golf bag and allowed to dry indoors in a warm air space. Its your money! See more

05.01.2022 Hi Folks. A couple of updates this week. We have now withdrawn all listings of lawn Bowls clothing items from our on-line shop with Ebay and all items will leave our warehouse shop next week. Given that we understand that Bossports in Mornington has now closed its doors for good, Lawn Bowlers will need to shop further afield, possibly as far as east Brighton or further away. Our golf stock has "surged" with new arrivals of premium sets of ex-demo 2018 Callaway and TaylorMa...de irons plus a range of Rogue drivers, fairways and hybrids - all good stuff at (of course) great prices. All those items are now listed on our Ebay shop but are of course available for purchase from our warehouse outlet in Rosebud. As summer approaches, we are offering excellent prices for re-gripping of individual clubs or sets - from $12 per grip fitted. Same day service for up to 4 clubs! Also new is a limited supply of new golf bags, including full waterproof bags and lightweight cart bags, all with 14 way dividers and can be lifted (empty !) with one finger. Drop in and see us in Thamer st behind Bunnings.

04.01.2022 Hi Guys. Its about time to bring people up to date with our decision to drop Lawn Bowls from our business and to re-focus on Golf and golfers totally after June 30. As many people would know, we worked alongside the former Bowls Express team in the Rosebud Beach shop location for nearly 2 years and took on the lawn Bowls business as an extension to Tornys Golf nearly six years ago after they retired from the business. Unfortunately, we have experienced the same business is...sues as Bowls Express which makes it totally not viable to operate a Lawn Bowls outlet without significant subsidy from some other business operation. As a result, effective immediately, we are in clearance mode and will be listing our current lawn bowls clothing and equipment inventory on line through our Ebay shop ("Torny") and will offer all of that inventory in the Rosebud warehouse shop at a significant price reduction to clear. We wont be ordering additional inventory from any suppliers. We will post a series of explanatory comments over the Easter period to provide more detailed comment on the main issues that have led us to this decision. I hope you all have a safe and happy Easter Break. See more

01.01.2022 Time to make a colourful splash on the course (when we return...!). This is an opportunity to add colour to your game. A brand new, never used bright "Angostura" orange G-XN Stand bag PLUS matching golf towel, matching iron and fairway wood covers and matching 1.5 metre auto-up golf umbrella, also proudly carrying the Angostura brand name. For those who arent familiar with the brand, Angostura is the widely consumed "Bitters" that adds punch to Lemon, Lime and Bitters.... The bag has an 8-way top divider, adjustable harness strap and rain hood. The bag is new and was a corporate gift to its previous owner. The package including umbrella is $199.

01.01.2022 Wow! The world around us has changed dramatically for all small businesses. We are still trading on line through "Tornys_Golf" on Ebay and that means we are open in Capel Sound every morning, Mon-Saturday for packing and sending. Happily golf is alive and well in other States! We are still offering a range of services to golfers here from our warehouse, including: re-gripping of clubs - from $9 per grip fitted; and cleaning and machine buffing of clubs - $35 per set of up ...to 10 irons or $45 for the full set including woods. Same day service for these services if they are dropped off early in the day. Check our on-line listings on Ebay - walk-in customers will get a discount for buying direct from our warehouse! Stay safe - we all hope that the locks will be taken off the golf courses before too long. See more
