25.01.2022 Massive thanks to our wonderful local community for all the supplies we have received as donations during this very difficult time, our crews out in the field are very grateful. For those that are interested/able to further help, donations can be made to Australian Red Cross to help fire ravaged communities. WIRES to help devastated native wildlife and NSW Rural Fire Service.

23.01.2022 Retained firefighters from Toronto station as well as crews from Belmont, Wangi Wangi and Tarro were hard at work in Kempsy and Crescent Head from the 11th - 13th as a strike force to deal with bushfires in that area. As well as fighting bushfires, crews responded to a fully involved housefire as well as a motor vehicle accident.

23.01.2022 The warning is very real. Unfortunately there have been many tragedies.

22.01.2022 Scented candles have caused several fires in recent weeks. Only burn where they can be seen, no closer than 10 cm to other objects and no longer than 4 hours at a time. Only place them on non flammable surfaces out of reach of children and pets.

22.01.2022 Get caught speeding, illlegally using your mobile phone, not using a seatbelt or helmet this holiday period, and you’ll face double the consequences. Double dem...erits are in force Thursday 13 April to Monday 17 April inclusive - so think twice. #TowardsZero See more at http://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au//double-demerits.ht See more

21.01.2022 People are able to enjoy a recreational fire now that the cooler weather is here. We ask people to use common sense with fires. You must have a properly constructed fire place or pit, clean seasoned wood, a hose or water source nearby and a responsible adult in charge. Never burn green waste or rubbish.

19.01.2022 We recommend people download the Fires Near Me app for up to date information and alerts.

11.01.2022 There will be Hazard Reduction burns taking place in Toronto this weekend 29th and 30th July.. Take care in the area, smoke may affect visibility on the roads.

10.01.2022 Says it all really. Have a safe and happy Australia Day.

10.01.2022 Winter is around the corner and people are using their wood heaters. We recommend that chimneys be cleaned at least once a year by an experienced chimney sweep. A dirty chimney can cause a chimney fire if soot is allowed to build up. This happens quicker if unseasoned or poor quality wood is burnt, or if the chimney is left burning overnight. If the chimney becomes sufficiently blocked the fire gases cannot escape as intended which can result in Carbon Monoxide poisoning. A domestic smoke detector does not detect a build up of Carbon Monoxide. When properly operated and serviced a wood heater creates a safe, cosy environment. And when the chimney sweep visits don't forget to shake his hand- it is widely believed to bring good luck, especially at a wedding!

09.01.2022 Many thanks to Wangi Mens Shed and the Wangi Wangi community for banding together and putting on some excellent food for Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service Firefighters working on the Wangi bushfire this week your efforts are greatly appreciated.

06.01.2022 The continuing dry weather is bringing the local wildlife close to the roads. There has been a significant increase in possums, wallabies and kangaroos getting hit by vehicles. We urge people to take care and report any animal injuries to WIRES.

06.01.2022 We hope everyone has a relaxing and safe break. Our crews have been working hard and we appreciate the community’s gratitude.

05.01.2022 Firefighters from Toronto Fire Station were called to rescue some much loved pet rabbits from a drain pipe. The two Flemish Giant Rabbits had escaped from their yard and found their way into a storm water drain. The worried owners discovered them lodged at the pit. After several hours they seemed unable to find their way out of the pipe. Firefighters used the Milwaukee search cam to confirm the location of Ben and Jerry. They had travelled about 8 meters along the 150 mm pi...pe. After some digging it was decided to break up the concrete and remove the rainwater pit rather than break into the terracotta pipe.. The window was carefully widened and before long Ben popped his head up and was soon grabbed and returned to his owners. Jerry had gone deeper into the pipe and was hesitant to back up. Firefighters found that rigid suction hose was the right diameter to gently work into the pipe from the gutter outlet. Jerry eventually reversed himself to the opening and was also swooped up. It was a happy ending for all and the damage to the drain was minimal. The rabbits had spent approx 6 hours in the pipe. Toronto Fire Station is a Primary Rescue Station. The majority of incidents are vehicle, industrial and domestic rescues involving people. Animal Rescue is also part of the responsibility and it is not uncommon to attend calls involving dogs, cats and livestock.

05.01.2022 Please note the correct date, this Saturday 1st June.

03.01.2022 We urge people not to use outdoor heaters or BBQs indoors during the cold weather. The cafe style gas heaters or BBQs that burn LPG or kettle style BBQs that burn charcoal beads are designed for outdoor use only. They produce a variety of gases, the most prevalent and dangerous is CO Carbon Monoxide. CO is a clear odourless gas and requires a gas detector to confirm its presence. There have been many tragedies involving the inappropriate use of external equipment. Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer.
