22.01.2022 Feel like a Sunday snag? Head to Bunnings Torquay to support TDLG

20.01.2022 Saturday 19th June ‘Ministry of Mushrooms’ at Coastal Forest Lodge from 10am - 4pm, with morning tea and lunch provided What are all those fungi doing there in the landscape? How do they help ecosystems function? And how are progressive farmers including fungi in their thinking about soils? This workshop introduces participants to the diversity, ecology and curiosities of the Kingdom Fungi, specific to fungi found in the region but also within wider Australian and global con...texts. It includes an interactive session on the basics of fungus identification, where participants will get to handle, examine and identify various fungi. Participants will also learn to recognise the various diagnostic characteristics used to identify fungi in the field, necessary to fungus surveying. Fungi will be discussed in regard to their role in natural and agricultural ecosystems, as well as cultural interests such as edibility and toxicity. Participants will then partake in an exciting foray through various local ecosystems to search for species of interest. Supplementary notes will also provided. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own specimens for identification at the workshop. Sunday 20th June ‘Fungi in Focus’ at Coastal Forest Lodge from 10am - 4pm, with morning tea and lunch provided. The Surf Coast is home to an incredible diversity of fungi. With their peculiar forms and amazing array of colours, fungi make intriguing photographic subjects. In this workshop participants will learn how to photograph fungi in different contexts to capture both their scientific and aesthetic nature, as well as the use of photography in monitoring and data analysis Photographs are also an important part of the scientific survey of fungi. Images contribute to knowledge of the distribution and ecology of fungi. Requirements for taking appropriate images for scientific data repositories will also be discussed. Following an indoor interactive theoretical session the afternoon will be spent in the field putting techniques into practice. Supplementary notes will be provided.

06.01.2022 GORGEOUS GUMS! TDLG are lucky enough to have a committee member growing these babies for us! These beauties are the endangered Bellarine Yellow Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon ssp. Bellarinensis) and Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis). They are destined to get into the ground this planting season at some of our revegatation events. But.... they are growing so well that we may have an excess! If you are interested in getting some for your property, contact us and we will see what we can do!
