24.01.2022 Life Saving Victoria is urging people to take water safety seriously following a spate of fatal drownings along the Victorian coast yesterday afternoon. As you ...may have already seen, three people drowned in three separate incidents, and another three needed to be resuscitated along our coastline. This brings the number of drowning deaths in Victoria since 1 July 2020 to 38, superseding the previous financial year’s total of 34. That’s an average of more than one fatal drowning each week. Even one drowning is one too many, so these figures are truly heart breaking. We want people to be able to enjoy our beautiful waterways, but you need to do it safely. Wherever possible, swim between the red and yellow flags at patrolled beaches and during patrolled times, always supervise kids and never underestimate the potential risks around water. Thank you to our incredible crews and our emergency services partners Victoria Police Ambulance Victoria and Vic Emergency who assisted with these incidents. Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected by these tragic events.

23.01.2022 To run a Nippers and Starfish Nippers Program the size of ours, with almost 500 budding junior lifesavers, it takes a massive band of dedicated volunteers. Water safety, coaches, age managers, officials, bbq helpers, program and fundraising co-ordinators, gear stewards, competition managers and of course amazing and resilient kids - everyone plays a part. 04.01.2022 Last week we rolled out our Nippers Summer Holiday Program and kicked off the life saving pathway for hundreds of future beach patrollers, with huge thanks to our major sponsors Hayden Real Estate. The Nippers Committee worked tirelessly to get the program off the ground this year amid a rapidly changing environment of guidelines and restrictions, and from all the feedback, this year could just be the best one yet! Big thanks to the many volunteers who rolled up sleeves and helped make this happen, and to Barwon Valley Smallgoods and Torquay Animal House for your support with our Age and Team Managers. And most of all, well done to do the amazing Nippers, you guys are awesome!
