24.01.2022 Council has made the difficult decision to close all beaches in Surf Coast Shire, effective immediately. Weve taken this action after evidence today there were... still large gatherings of people at a number of beaches in the shire. This action is in line with Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews strong message that people who can stay home, must stay home. This decision is in accordance with the direction of the Victorian Chief Health Officer regarding the necessity of people complying with the social distancing and mass gathering rules. Similar decisions have also been made by a number of bayside and coastal councils. Following these rules is essential to save lives. People will still be able to surf, swim, run, walk or exercise their dog, provided they strictly observe the social distancing rules. The closure applies to beaches being used as a gathering place so do not sit down or gather on the beach. Council will also close a number of beach access roads and car parks in support of this decision. Regardless of this decision please remember the best action is to stay at home.

22.01.2022 NOBODY SURFS HERE Every so often a plan gets thrown up to build a breakwall here so the fishos dont get slapped around too badly in the shorebreak (theres a h...int) and people say it shouldnt be a problem . . . Nobody surfs here! Well that is not exactly true, this place gets surfed regularly, by kids getting pushed into waves by their parents, logging legends, suppers, and imaginary big wave maniacs that plan road trips only to find the surf too big! Anyhow it would be interesting to chart exactly how many people are in the water regularly? I had a friend of a friend dial me up one day hoping for a surf lesson so I took her to Fishos. She was paddling around happily, grinning and chatting to a couple surfing on Mals, there were only four of us out. When we got back to the car I asked her if she knew who the other bloke out there was, she said no. Her first surf and she was sharing the lineup with 1988 world champ Barton Lynch and his wife. Yeah people surf here . . . World champs surf here! See more
