15.01.2022 Wear It Purple Day -Torquay Tornadoes Wear It Purple Day is an annual LGBTQ+ awareness day, and this year it falls on this Friday, 28th August. The day empowers young people and celebrates diversity throughout our schools, workplaces and the broader community. Torquay Tornadoes are committed to supporting diversity. As President of Torquay Hockey Club I am pleased to stand up and be counted as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. It means a lot to me personally that everyone fee...ls welcome to enjoy our sports club free of discrimination. By chucking on a purple shirt, pulling up your purple socks you are visibly showing your support for LGBTQ+ youth and reminding young people they are loved, accepted and have the right to be proud of who they are. A sense of belonging is something everyone needs. It is especially important for rainbow youth in the community. A staggering 75% of LGBTQ+ youth experience some form of discrimination due to the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity. Wear It Purple Day allows us to celebrate our sexual and gender identities in public, brings people together, and keeps the discussion, personal story sharing and learning going. It is a great way to support the next generation of LGBTQ+ youth. So whether you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally, join us on 28th August to celebrate Wear it Purple Day. Andrew Crowley President Torquay Hockey Club and the Committee
