17.01.2022 Achilles tendon or Patella tendon pain . Eccentric loading (aka The Alfredson Protocol) may not be the best treatment option for you. . This great infographic extracted from Malliaris et al (2015) provides a nice little summary of evidence based loading principles! ... . If you’ve tried a recipe of tendon rehabilitation to little effect, it might be time to change your approach. . One of the cool things about Physio, is best practice treatment protocols are always evolving - we are constantly working towards improving patient outcomes via tailored interventions. . Find a physio who stays up to date on research, listens to you and your response to treatment, and is willing to think outside the box. . The biggest take away from this paper: . There is no one size fits all approach!! . . . Reference: Malliaris, P., Palomino, J., Barton, C. (2018). Infographic. Achilles and patella tendinopathy rehabilitation: strive to implement loading principles not recipes. 03.01.2022 BACK PAIN!!! . I wanted to highlight this ENTIRE article by: Peter O’Sullivan et al. (2019) Back to Basics: 10 facts every person should know about back pain. .... Perfectly encapsulates in particular: . the relative innocuous nature of low back pain presentations. . the poor correlation between scan results and clinical symptoms. . the safety and efficacy of exercise with low back pain. . that behaviour, rather than tissue damage often maintains pain states. And that pain flare ups are more related to emotion, stress and mood states more than tissue damage. . Posture and a weak core is NOT necessarily predictive of back pain.....YES!!!!! If you have back pain, it DOES NOT mean your core muscles are weak . It DOES NOT MEAN that the answer lies in thousands of isolated pelvic floor exercises. in fact, you may actually be far too intensely braced around your abdominal and paraspinal muscles, and SO hyper vigilant about pain and movement, this may actually be contributing to your symptoms . Loading and bending the spine DOES NOT cause damage, and may help with structural resilience. As I’ve said before, deadlifts will not make your back pain necessarily worse, if you are loading your spine progressively and wisely. . Surgery, strong medications and rest are NOT the answer and rarely fix pain. . effective care includes a combination of education, coaching on exercise and sleep and nutrition habits, progressive loading, and body weight management. . . It’s time to change the way we address back pain. . See more
