25.01.2022 Children thrive when parents have the support they need. This week is National Child Protection Week. You can find out more at: https://www.napcan.org.au/ncpw-get-involved/
24.01.2022 Talking with your child about biting, and how it makes the other child feel when they are hurt, is a great start to helping children to understand that 'biting' - whilst common, is not an ideal behaviour!. This great Starting Blocks article provides insights into why a child might bite, how our educators respond to biting incidents, and what you can do to help. https://bit.ly/3l0Hvtj
24.01.2022 Empathy, kindness and showing concern are some of the values we would like to develop in the early years. Through role play and meaningful conversation, we provide opportunities for children to gradually understand and practice these values. For instance, in the Wattle room, they have been integrating into their play how to be gentle with babies and taking care of those who are sick.
22.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.... Our educator Jo, created this moving depiction/diorama for our children in commemoration of Remembrance Day. We acknowledged our fallen soldiers with a minute of silence at 11am followed by creating with the children a stain glass effect of a poppy field with a silhouette of a soldier.
20.01.2022 Every day we provide physical development opportunities for our children. A sound and healthy body is important for our children to have the strength, flexibility and coordination to engage more in activities requiring complex physical skills. Through our fundamental movement skills program we focus on some core muscles and gross motor experiences each week like jumping, kicking and balancing.
16.01.2022 Every Friday our children across the centre are enjoying yoga with Travis. Activities range from calming and breathing techniques, stretching, flexibility, and strength development. Indeed, yoga has numerous physical, mental and emotional benefits. This is one of our continuous programs to achieve Quality Area 2 promoting children’s health and safety. It is also relevant to EYLF Outcome 3 as our centre focuses on children’s over-all well being and provides an environment where they can thrive and feel that they can trust people around them.
15.01.2022 A child safety message: Knowing where to report online child safety issues is important. If a child is being contacted or groomed by a potential offender, make a report at www.accce.gov.au/report. Try and collect evidence first, then block the user. If you see child abuse material online, make a report to www.eSafety.gov.au/report who can help get it removed. ... If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000) or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to report anonymously.
15.01.2022 NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. This recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. We were fortunate to have Larry (Wirradjuri elder) who further taught us about Aboriginal culture and hist...ory. We learnt how the indigenous people traditionally hunt and make weapons. Some of the children pretended to be emus and kangaroos and whilst others were the hunters. The children took turns wearing kangaroo and possum fur and saw pictures and dolls wearing fur in winter months. We learnt about bush tucker, language, history and culture of our ancestors. We look forward to having Larry visit us at least once a month to continue embedding this rich tradition and culture to all our children. Our rooms also had varied activities. The Gumnuts used art sand for babies to explore indigenous animals and signs. Bluebells focused on the aboriginal story How the birds got their colours. The children were then encouraged to use clay and make a sculpture base and then decorate it with coloured feathers and beads that reflect the influence of aboriginal art. The Wattle had discussions about the aboriginal flag and Derek played his didgeridoo to the children showing them the sound it makes including the sound of a kookaburra. The Waratahs did a collaborative art portraying their class interpretation of the rainbow serpent. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe See more
09.01.2022 Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincide with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness. During the Diwali celebrations, a Diya (candle) is lit and placed all around a house both outdoors and indoors. A Diwali Diya is a small lamp that is lit especially at Diwali (New Year's in India). Fo...r this experience, our children were given the opportunity to create their very own Diya's using playdough. The educators first began by showing the children how a Diwali Diya looks like, and then the children will be given the opportunity to create their very own. We also had discussions, treasure box and art related activities to know more about the importance of Diwali. Let us take this opportunity to also thank one of our parentsApoorva and Nikhil, for preparing a special lunch last Friday for our educators and staff to enjoy in line with Diwali celebration. 03.01.2022 To celebrate Australia day, our children have been engaged to different activities. In the past days, our rooms have been focusing on Australian animals based on children’s interest and Australian plants and flowers (specially the origin of our room names). They have been expressing their understanding and interpretation through clay, paint, collage and other forms of mark making. We acknowledge and appreciate that our centre is composed of families coming from diverse backgr...ound. As such, we also focused on the story I am Australian too. We help our children understand a multicultural Australia and what it means to be Australian. Today, we also had a special music session with Teacher Maureen. We sang Aussie songs over the years including ‘Say G’day’, 'Waltzing Matilda', 'We are One', 'Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree', 'Happy Litte Vegemites', 'I like Aeroplane Jelly’ and ‘Old McDonald had a farm’ featuring Australian animals. We hope our parents also enjoyed the take away Lamington this afternoon. Happy Australia Day to all our families! See more
02.01.2022 The new Bluebells room is our recently opened junior preschool room. To build belongingness in the room, the educators and children started exploring common feelings specially during the first week back in the centre. Most are happy to see friends and investigate their new learning space whilst few are still adjusting and may feel a bit sad specially during drop offs. As such, our educators would like to reassure our children that they can express how they feel to both their ...educators and peers. As the Bluebells age group is becoming more verbal and independent, starting with smaller group activities and tapping current interests, educators are modelling positive interactions and acceptable ways of expressing our thoughts and feelings. This is essential for our Bluebells children to gain confidence in the environment and at the same time enhance positive social skills. Moreover, the Bluebells are re-introducing to our children the fundamental movement skills activities every morning before they engage to free play outdoors. See more
01.01.2022 Our Waratah's are such creative learners. They have being reading the Aboriginal stories "The Kangaroo and the Porpoise" and "When the Snake bites the Sun" These stories have opened up discussions on emotions and how we need to be gentle to our friends. The children then continued the interest from the stories by examining some aboriginal bark paintings - we then created a similar effect by painting onto rough brown cardboard. First they covered the cardboard in traditional indigenous colours (yellow/orange/brown) then they painted over the colours with black paint - finally - the children scratched animal shapes and patterns. The children created beautiful aboriginal inspired artwork by the end of the process, engaged in traditional understanding, and also communicated about their feelings.
01.01.2022 It was a busy yet exciting week for everyone last week as we celebrated Book Week. In line with the theme, our rooms read stories and implemented experiences about curious creatures and they have used children’s different languages of learning to make it more meaningful. As seen in some of the photos, they have used the languages of movement, construction, clay, and music to make the stories current, fun and relevant to our children’s interests and allow opportunities for v...aried interpretation of understanding. Maureen and Travis, our music and yoga teachers, respectively also joined us by incorporating curious creatures and animals in their usual sessions. Sandra Bennett also visited our centre and read some of her books like Emma the Eager Emu and Frazelled Freya. How wonderful to hear these stories from the author herself. We would like to thank our parents for their support-- sending their children in costume, bringing in some books and helping our educators with some props. And of course, a huge congratulation and thank you to all our educators and children for showing enthusiasm and creativity as always. See more
