23.01.2022 STRONG WIND WARNING NOTICE A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Thursday, 1st October to Saturday, 3rd October 2020 for Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Coast. Weather Forecast for Thursday until midnight. Winds: Southeasterly 20 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots West of Cape York in the late evening.... Seas: 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Swell: East to South-Easterly below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres outside the reef. Weather: Partly cloudy. Torres Strait Local Disaster Management Group advises that people should: Move your car under cover or away from trees. Secure loose outdoor items around house. Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. Beware of fallen trees and power lines. Avoid any inter Island travel by boat. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219.

16.01.2022 DAM LEVEL DOWN TO 57.5% - PLEASE SHARE Council wishes to advise our local businesses, all government agencies operating in the Shire, NGO’s and community members that Loggy Creek Dam is holding 78.6% water BUT only 57.5% is the practical measurement due to the silt and dreg at the bottom of the dam. Water security and water supply are critical to our community and our Shire. Water conservation is everybody’s business, please observe the current Level 3 Water Restrictions. 11.01.2022 Water Main Burst TSC is currently attending an emergency repair to a burst water main on Summer Street, Thursday Island. The water supply will be turned off during repairs and properties between 11 Summer Street and and Wongai Courts will be effected. For more information please call TSC on 40691336.

11.01.2022 COMMUNITY SAFETY MEDIA RELEASE Council has been informed by Australian Border Force (ABF) that they became aware of reports around alleged illegal arrivals of PNG nationals on Horn Island. Initially, ABF and partner agency land, sea and aerial patrols initiated follow up patrols and surveillance, with no evidence found to support these claims. However, in recent days two PNG nationals were apprehended on Prince of Wales Island. They were transported to Queensland Police (QP...S) facilities at Thursday Island. These individuals have since been detained and questioned and further actions in regard to this matter are pending. Council is informed that it is possible that two additional PNG members are still unaccounted for and may be illegally located around the Prince of Wales Island area. Council is further informed that ABF and QPS continue to monitor and remain ready to react to the whereabouts of these individuals, once this information is forthcoming. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and to continue reporting any information on unusual activity via Crime Stoppers (QPS) (tel: 1800 330 000) or Border Watch (ABF) (tel: (02) 6196 0196). The tropical low or cyclone is expected to move towards the east southeast and cross the southeast Gulf coast tonight or early Monday morning. The low remains in a favourable environment to develop into a tropical cyclone tonight, just before landfall.
