24.01.2022 PELVIC HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY **** What is it? Pelvic health addresses problem within the pelvis. In Physiotherapy, this may include urinary and faecal incontinence, prolapse, overactive bladder, pelvic pain, abdominal muscle separation and pelvic floor rehabilitation *****... Which physios can help? Its important that if you are symptomatic of a pelvic floor issue, you see a Physiotherapist who has completed additional training in pelvic health. This area requires excellent knowledge of the pelvic anatomy and additional skills in assessment and management. **** How do they assess pelvic floor? Pelvic floor is assessed either by Real Time Ultrasound (RTUS) or internal assessment. RTUS is great for visual biofeedback. Internal assessment provides some additional detail than RTUS. You will need to discuss with your Physiotherapist which assessment is best suited to your presenting condition **** Help is out there for your pelvic floor issues! Chat with your GP or Physiotherapist today, or call us on 9555 9854. See more

23.01.2022 For the fourth day of LBP #MythBusting, lets review the common idea that back pain is brought on by a weak core. #BUSTED! In fact, people experiencing back p...ain often tense their core muscles as a protective response (a bit like clenching your fist when you sprain your wrist). While its important to keep your muscles strong, being tense all the time is not helpful. 20.01.2022 Its day eight of LBP #Mythbusting, and todays message to come out of the new research from British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) is that spine injections,... surgery and strong drugs arent very effective for persistent back pain especially in the long term. All of these interventions come with some pretty heavy risks and potential side effects. If you need help with exercise, motivation or even just some reassurance that what youre doing is safe, pay your physio a visit. For more information, you can find the research here: https://bjsm.bmj.com//early/2019/12/31/bjsports-2019-101611 #choosephysio #mythbusting #exerciseismedicine

17.01.2022 #Mythbusting round two! Low Back Pain (LBP) is the number one cause of disability worldwide, often associated with expensive, sometimes ineffective or even harm...ful care. But why does this persist? According to new research from Peter OSullivan, JP Caneiro, Kieran OSullivan, Ivan Lin, Samantha Bunzli, Kevin Wernli and Mary OKeeffe, unhelpful beliefs and pervasive myths though they are common and culturally endorsed are not backed by evidence and are associated with greater levels of reported pain, disability, work absenteeism, medication use and healthcare seeking. To begin to peel back some of the unhelpful beliefs outlined in the research, were launching another myth-busting exercise, this time focussed on LBP. Today, were busting the notion that scans will always show the cause of back pain. In fact, scans are only helpful for a small minority of people. While a lot of conditions can be reported with a scan bulging discs, protrusions, degeneration, arthritis and so on what cant be seen is the reality that many of these conditions are also common in those without any pain at all. As such, they cant predict your pain! For more information, you can find the research here: https://bjsm.bmj.com//early/2019/12/31/bjsports-2019-101611

16.01.2022 TELEHEALTH & PHYSIO *** In light of the changing situation around COVID-19, the current recommendations are to engage in social distancing, self isolate if unwell, been in contact with someone who has tested positive or travelled overseas. This means attending Physiotherapy may not be possible or desirable. *** From working extensively in the rural and remote setting, I have widely used telehealth to deliver Physiotherapy services, and we will be trialling this from Total Co...ncept Physiotherapy over the next few months, as our way of contributing to #flattenthecurve, and ensuring you still have access to Physiotherapy as required. *** You will be able to receive assessment and advice via a secure online video connection - all you need is internet and a webcam/inbuilt camera on your laptop/computer/phone. We will also be running some basic classes for specific conditions which you can access. *** It has been shown that telehealth can be just as effective as face to face care in the clinic. *** If you think this may be a helpful option for you, please contact the clinic on 95559854 to discuss and we can walk you through our very simple setup. *** Our priority is to ensure your health and wellbeing!
