19.01.2022 BIG WIN ON CUTTING ELECTRICITY USE AND EMISSIONS Finally the regulator of the energy market has decided to implement an energy conservation rule change, that has been championed by TEC for many years. Consumers can earn money by using less. It only applies to big consumers so far but we are pressing for all consumers to benefit.

15.01.2022 LOST SHIPPING CONTAINERS - plastic pollution hazard! The loss of up to 50 shipping containers now polluting the state’s east coast should be treated as hazardous pollution with consequent large fines to help with cleanup. Foam packaging, masks, foodware and small and large pieces of plastic are on beaches and in the water. These are all highly hazardous as they break up into microplastics that are eaten by marine life, killing it and entering the human food chain.

15.01.2022 INCINERATOR FUTURE? Serious questions need to be answered by the proposed waste to energy incinerator in Matraville that will use up to 200,000t a year. Such incinerators need long term contracts and cannabalise material that can be better used for higher value reprocessing; and the local area already has an air pollution load. @matraville Matt Thistlethwaite Rob Stokes

12.01.2022 TEC - The Macarthur Koala Colony is essential to the survival of NSW Koalas. NSW planning must follow the Chief Scientists recommendations and the 42 recommendations of the recent Koala Inquiry, to ensure their survival.

10.01.2022 PLASTIC FREE HERE TO STAY Boomerang's Plastic Free Places project, working with businesses is making great strides; and being increasingly recognised as a transitional program to implement legislated bans on single use items.

10.01.2022 WASTE TO ENERGY INCINERATORS ON THE BACKFOOT Environment Minister, Matt Kean and (last night) the City of Sydney Council have opposed waste incinerators for the metro Sydney area. There are four proposed for Sydney. Recycling, reuse and the circular economy must be first and foremost.

09.01.2022 KOALA DESTRUCTION BILL It's outrageous - the NSW Parliament should reject it. Our Statement here - https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net//kOALA_Statement_.pd

08.01.2022 URBAN TREES - DEVELOPERS SHOW TRUE COLOURS A Plan for 40% tree canopy across the Wilton development area is being resisted by developers. The UDIA again shows they are stuck in the past. For the cooling, mental health and biodiversity benefits - private land must be involved. Rob Stokes @UDIANational

07.01.2022 Cumberland Plain Plan last chance to get it right for koalas and endangered bushland There are some good parts to the new Plan and some more work to do, says TEC. Faster protection of the Georges R Koala park area; east west corridors over Mt Gilead; and clear conservation for remaining bushland - before the area is engulfed in urban development.
