12.06.2022 Schizophrenia Awareness Week tackles the stigmatised and marginalised individuals living with schizophrenia throughout Australia. The week aims to teach people more about the facts and work towards dispelling the myths. In 2022, Schizophrenia Awareness Week (SAW) will be held from Sunday 22 to Saturday 28 May. The theme for this year is ""Connecting with HOPE"". According to Physiopedia, schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder that involves a range of cognitive, behavioral, a...nd emotional dysfunction. It is characterized by delusions (fixed false beliefs), hallucinations, disorganization, unusual behavior, and withdrawal. It usually begins during young adulthood. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy can help manage any co-morbidities, side effects of medications, or help deal with the physical decline in function. At Total Health Physio we understand that Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Exercise Physiology delivered with compassion is highly meaningful and helpful for our community living with schizophrenia and other mental health challenges. We love the opportunity to help people holistically. Kim has been working with THP's amazing team since November 2020 and over this period our lovely Occupational Therapist Mindy has worked with Kim to improve her organisational skills and manage her daily routines. Total Health Physio is also supporting Kim with finding suitable housing options to maximise her independence. 10.06.2022 THP has a Home When I first started Total Health Physio 11 years ago, all I knew is that I wanted to use my Physiotherapy skills to make a difference to people’s lives. I love working and connecting with people, especially the elderly, so that is where my journey to owning my own business began. I never could have imagined that 11 years down the track THP would have its own headquarters with an incredible team of 25 allied health professionals all around Melbourne with the ...same vision as me to deliver the best care to our vulnerable community. My team has helped shape THP to be one of Melbourne’s most caring providers of Aged Care and Disability Support Services in the community, and the work the team at Emmy Monash does for the residents is beyond exceptional. I am very proud of all that we at THP stand for. I was recently a panellist at an APA student event where I was asked what does it mean to have your own business and my answer was: It’s like having a baby I remember when my first son Jacob was born, I was a new mum and had no idea what I was doing. When he was unsettled throughout the night I would pace around the house tapping him on his back saying to myself repeatedly labour of love, labour of love, labour of love. Now Jacob is almost 8 years old and together with my husband Simon and the unwavering support of family and friends, Jacob has flourished and has developed into a beautiful little person who I am proud of despite all the challenges that raising kids present along the way. Total Health Physio is also my baby it is a labour of love and it has kept me up through many sleepless nights but with the amazing support and dedication from my team, it too has flourished. Having this office space in Malvern as the official THP Headquarters to mark this achievement is truly special and something I am extremely proud of and grateful for.
