25.01.2022 Australian lawmakers say theyve noticed little change since cannabis use was legalised in Canberra, and they have some advice for New Zealand as voters prepare... to cast their ballots in the referendum. The legislation, signed off in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory eight months ago, aimed to treat cannabis as a health issue rather than a criminal one. It allows those over 18 to possess 50g of dried cannabis and to grow two plants. The selling and trafficking of the drug, as well as the use of a hydroponic setup to grow the plant, is still banned. New laws have also been introduced to make it illegal to smoke cannabis in public and around children. Health Minister and Labor MP for Australian Capital Territory Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA said she hasnt noticed a difference. But, she said de-stigmatising cannabis use would help people seek help if their use of the drug was harmful. Depending on the model that New Zealand is going to choose, really look at the evidence that sits behind that. But, also, really think about the fact that we really want to take a harm-minimisation approach. She said she hadnt seen an increase in demand from people wanting support, and said there was enough support services in place. Her colleague, Michael Pettersson MLA, Australian Labor Party MP for Yerrabi, echoed her sentiments. Nothings really changed in the ACT, he said. He said police time was best used to go after organised criminal gangs rather than individual recreational or medicinal cannabis users. More than half of the 150,000 drug arrests were for cannabis-related offences in 2017/18 About 6.9 million Australians said they had used the drug before, with 10 per cent indicating theyd used cannabis in the past year. : https://www.tvnz.co.nz//australian-lawmakers-offer-advice-? 11.01.2022 In 1970, the US government declared that cannabis has zero medicinal value. But half a century on, its being used to treat a range of illnesses. Watch REHAB, every Thursday this April from 10PM on VICE on TV.
10.01.2022 According to celebrity doctor Mehmet Ozor Dr. Ozrepresentatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have eac...h told him theyre on board with legalizing marijuana. And the agencies blame each other for blocking efforts to end prohibition. In a recent interview, Oz was asked about his professional opinion on cannabis. The host of the popular daytime program of his namesake called marijuana one of the most underused tools in America and went on to say that hes had conversations with individuals from both DEA and FDA who generally share his views about the plant. We ought to completely change our policy on marijuana. It absolutely works, he told interviewer Fatman Scoop, adding that another daytime TV host Montel Williams, who has multiple sclerosis, convinced him of the medical utility of cannabis. Now Ive seen this helping people with sleep issues, with pain issues for sure, and a lot of people who have serious medical problems getting reliefand heres the thing, you cant die from it. Im unaware of any case when anyone has overdosed. Its a lot safer than alcohol. Its safer than narcotics. It ought to be used more widely and we cant even study it that easily because of the way its regulated, he said. You know what, I called the DEAthey said, we dont want this to be illegal. Your government ought to change that. But we got to enforce the law. I call the FDA that regulates the drugs, they say, we think it ought to be used, but until the DEA says its allowed, we cant let people prescribe it everywhere. While Oz didnt disclose specifics about his conversations, such as who he spoke to or when the phone calls happened, it is the case that federal marijuana reform outside of Congress falls largely within the jurisdictions of both agencies. And DEA has denied multiple rescheduling requests, justifying the inaction by stating that FDA has determined that cannabis doesnt have proven medical value and carries a risk of abuse. Oz, who previously asserted that marijuana could represent a tool to combat the opioid epidemic and has made other public comments about the plants therapeutic potential, said Im hoping the federal government at some pointsomeones going to say, come on, this is a farce, open it up for the entire country. That way, the right people can begin to prescribe it. https://www.marijuanamoment.net/dr-oz-claims-dea-and-fda-b/

02.01.2022 'By tracing cannabis evolution back to a single location on the Tibetan Plateau millions of years ago, we have uncovered the site of the original cannabis landr...ace strain. Over thousands of years, the original cannabis strain moved across continents, becoming isolated in certain areas. The original landrace strain had to then develop to new conditions, eventually leading to a variety of landrace strains. Each developed unique geno-phenotypical characteristics reflective of adaptations provoked by their local environment. And these ancient strains have become the mythologized landrace strains that we idolize today.'
