25.01.2022 We just got a covid pack from Fourth Element, a box for of ocean positive masks!! $20 with 3 replacement filters. Limited numbers so PM for details.... Fourth Element has introduced a new line of protective face masks under its OceanPositive brand that are made in part from lost fishing nets. Additionally, Fourth Elements new face masks are made using off-cuts from their already recycled swimwear fabric, meaning waste is dramatically reduced. So wearers can keep themselves and others safe without adding to environmental damage. Available in four color combinations, the masks are secured with a double cord and knotted around the back of the head to avoid discomfort on the ears, but can be easily converted to ear loops if needed. Each mask comes with three PM 2.5 filters which have five layers of filtration including an activated carbon core layer. While disposable masks are a necessity for some, a reusable mask is a great option in order to reduce the amount of raw materials used and single-use products ending up in a landfill, or worse, the ocean. OceanPositives masks (minus the filter) can be machine-washed and reused indefinitely. The face masks are made with ECONYL nylon, a significant percentage of which comes from fishing nets recovered from the sea. These Ghost Nets amount to over 600,000 tones of lost gear every year and continue to fish, long after they have been abandoned, accounting for the loss of many lives, from invertebrates to large marine mammals. All over the world, dive teams are removing these ghost nets from the wrecks and reefs, often at great depths, and bringing them up to the surface where they can be recycled into yarn to be used in Fourth Elements swimwear and facemasks. Only a matter of time before Gladys makes masks mandatory

23.01.2022 Total Immersion Diving is now supporting local GUE instructors. The GUE Fundamentals course is by far GUE’s most popular program. It functions as a gateway into GUE training and it is an excellent way to personally experience what GUE is all about. Some divers use the Fundamentals course as a way to improve on the less-than-optimal training they have received during traditional fast-track entry-level courses. Others see the course as a ticket to participate in GUE projects a...nd activities. Many technical divers and even experienced instructors from other organisations use the course to improve basic skills and gain access to GUE’s cave and tech-training. It is not uncommon to have divers with very diverse backgrounds in the same class, which makes this course completely unique in the diving industry. Everybody will benefit, regardless of their current level of certification or experience. Graduating this course with a pass is something to be proud of, as the quality of a GUE Fundamentals diver is recognised all over the diving world. The GUE Fundamentals course provides all divers with an opportunity to advance basic diving skills. It provides the non-GUE trained divers (divers who are already certified with another recognised diving agency) with a gateway into GUE training. It is a prerequisite for all GUE courses (apart from entry-level courses, Drysuit and Doubles primers). Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: GUE equipment configuration and use, trim and buoyancy, propulsion techniques including backwards kick, valve management (the course can be done using a single tank or with a double tank configuration), gas sharing, and SMB deployment. This course will supplement training that divers may have already received and will give them more confidence in their basic skills even if they do not desire to go on for more advanced training. The course also includes the theory and use of nitrox. We are in the process of organising a GUE fundamentals course for November with awesome local instructor David Patel. Todays dive was a 2.5hr circumnavigation of Bare Island in Sydney in trying conditions! Overall the boys completed 10 hours openwater time and are looking very proficient on their units.

So here we are, testing configs to find out what works and what doesnt, because as we all know whats a great idea sitting in The Chamber having a few cold ones can turn out to be a disaster underwater! It also give us a chance to put some punishment on our two prototype wings.

12.01.2022 The new year has just begun and the JJ-CCR season is already in full swing. We have new units on their way, and a consumables order ready to go this week. Whilst we stock everything locally, this is a great time to make any "out of the ordinary" orders such as Xtended Range Canisters, Radial scrubber for the standard unit, or cells to make sure they are fresh. With this, we already have a full JJ-CCR course from the 21-27th of January, and a full course over the first two weekends of February. If you want JJ-CCR training, whether that is new, or extended, make sure to get in contact and scheduled in early to avoid disappointment.

10.01.2022 What happens when you drive all the way up the coast looking for rebreather support and the dive centre cooks you by being out of oxygen? You call Total Immersion diving and they bring a portable booster set up and fill 230B oxygen ON site. Today we came to a customers rescue at FlyPoint, Nelson Bay on a public holiday long weekend . Now they are on their way back up the coast for more diving!

08.01.2022 A quick time lapse video of an exploration dive that Lindsay and Ryan conducted in Nelson Bay. 90 minutes of full throttle scootering with #Bonex into the bay, over fly point, little beach, cauli garden, red patch and coal seam walls, and then 90 minutes of scootering home (plus some extra swimming for Lindsay). All condensed into 3 minutes! Its awesome what you can acheive with the combination of #JJ-CCR and #Divesoft Rebreathers with scooters!

Over the duration of the course the boys did nearly 10 hours underwater. Chris developed and polished his JJ-CCR skills and is now looking like a very competent CCR diver!

05.01.2022 Whilst it’s been a long year for most people, the Total Immersion Diving team has had a very successful year, supported by our wonderful students and supporters. This year we certified over 100 divers, added 15 new rebreather divers to our local JJ-CCR community, with 6 brand new rebreathers. (Stay tuned more rebreather training news soon). We did some rough sums*; this year the total immersion diving team spent over 500 hours on rebreathers, blown through a pallet load of S...ofnolime and travelled over 275kms under water. *After a probably too many beers. We thank everyone for their support of Total Immersion Diving this year, it’s been a wonderful year helping people achieve their diving goals. Next year we already have bookings including @JJ-CCR courses, so hopefully 2021 is just as big.

04.01.2022 Train hard, dive easy. Great weekend of Dive RAID International JJ-CCR training with Lachlan Mackinnon and Craig Bremner and instructor Ryan Duchatel. The boys did a day of theory and dry land skills and then Lachlan did his first CCR session with over 80minutes in the water. Looking forward to seeing the development happen over the next couple of weekends!

At TI we love our stainless backplates, they are great for getting weight on your rig..... but can be the enemy of travel! Dont worry we have you sorted! We have been testing our new carbon backplates for awhile now and they are ready for everyone. Just incase the carbon plate didnt get you excited..... we also have Titanium. Not as light as the carbon but signific...antly lighter than stainless with amazing corrosion resistance, not like those crusty aluminium plates. The Bitter I have had to retire a hood that has been with me since the start of TID. 596 dives, 5 countries, 386 deco hangs, bubble, no bubbles, caves, lakes, oceans and rivers. However, if caught early can be easily rectified with a cylinder and valve clean and service. Contact us immediately if something like this happens to you.
