22.01.2022 We have been given some bad news from national parks. They have closed the Goldsborough Goldfields Trail due to recent heavy rain in the area. We are planning a slightly shorter ride at False Cape. It will be approximately 10km return to the WW2 battery from Koombal. Please meet at the East Trinity boat ramp and follow instructions from our volunteers. 07.01.2022 2020 has been a testing year for everyone and unfortunately one of the Bridges on the Twin Bridges Track has collapsed and is unsafe to ride. Because of this we have had to change the venue for this event. This year's ride will be held on the Goldsborough Goldfields Trail. Goldsborough Goldfields Trail Ride an undulating 16km return journey from the Goldborough Goldfields day use area to the top causeway and back, taking in some of the best scenery the Southside has to offe...r. Beautiful running streams, lush tropical rainforest and of course the crystal clear waters of the Mulgrave River. Some of the more adventurous riders may like to park at Arnolds bridge at the base of the dirt road to get in a few extra k’s. You are more than welcome to, however this is not part of the official event and you will be riding at your own risk. Check in for the ride is between 8:30 and 8:50 for a 9:00 briefing at the day use area. The ride is a charity fundraiser event to raise awareness for youth suicide prevention. We have been granted special permission to use t...he Goldfields Trail on the day of the Totally Mental Bike Ride by National Parks and the trail will be 100% safe and ridable on the day. 02.01.2022 Could mountain biking save Far North tourism? A vision to turn the Smithfield bike trails into a world-class mountain bike destination has been launched.... The thinking is now, is everybody will come to Cairns because it’s a tourism destination and maybe one day go mountain biking it’s the other way around. You come here as a mountain biker to go mountain biking with your family, and then you go and do these other things Glen Jacobs, World Trail. Expected to bring an additional 100, 000 people to the region, delegates presented the vision to community members and representatives from across the region at Cairns Regional Council this week. Smithfield, where the proposed trails are envisioned, only has 35 kms of trail. At least 85kms is required to make it a mountain bike destination professionals say.
