24.01.2022 Our Solar System’s nearest planetary neighbour so far...

23.01.2022 A weird "minimoon" found circling Earth likely won't be there long.

23.01.2022 This is one of the most common questions we get asked here at Totally Space. It important to remember that terms such as Planet and Dwarf planet are just labels that we, as scientists, use to help us understand the similarities and differences between all things in the universe. Pluto has not changed...just our understanding of it and other similar (and different) planetary bodies!

23.01.2022 Jupiter's fifth moon, Io, is the most volcanically active body in the solar system.

22.01.2022 Saturn has overtaken Jupiter as the planet with the highest number of moons.

19.01.2022 All about our neighbor, the hottest planet in our solar system...

18.01.2022 Everything you need to know about Saturn's tiny moon, Enceladus!

18.01.2022 Phobos, a moon of Mars, is destined to be shredded, changing the Red Planet forever.

17.01.2022 Unfortunately we won’t see this year’s transit of Mercury in Australia, but this has some good details about how and why it occurs. Remember: NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN! And especially never look at the sun through binoculars or a telescope! Unless you have the correct solar filters, even then use extreme caution!

17.01.2022 Like humans, as we age, Ceres is wrinkling as it shrinks!

16.01.2022 A 'Minor planet' bonanza!

15.01.2022 At totally space, we find it hard to believe that this is the first ever all female spacewalk. Clearly spaceflight has been a male dominated endeavour, for no physical or intellectual reason. We certainly see no reason why women should not be on an equal footing in space exploration, and we encourage any aspiring astronauts, regardless of gender, to reach for the stars.

15.01.2022 All about Saturn's largest moon, Titan!

15.01.2022 Transmitting much of New Horizons' data back to Earth was a slow processbut the wait is over

To order please message us directly or email us at : [email protected]

12.01.2022 Your journey begins here ...

09.01.2022 Great to get so many PMs from you all. The most common question from yesterday was: How do I find Venus and Mercury in the sky tonight? At about 6:40 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time look west low in the sky (after sunset). In the twilight you will see a bright star (very few other stars will be out as it will not be dark enough yet!). That "Star" is the planet Venus. As the sky gets darker, another "star" will appear just above Venus. That star is the planet Mercury. As the night progresses, both planets will get closer and closer to the horizon, and eventually set (like the Sun), so be sure to get out there before 7:00 pm to see them both. In the attached picture Venus is the lower white dot, and Mercury is the higher one.

07.01.2022 What a beautiful clear spring sky tonight. It was a perfect opportunity to view Venus, and Mercury just after sunset on the western horizon. A beautiful Crescent Moon, and Jupiter are a little higher in the western sky. If you missed out on seeing them...there's always tomorrow, as it looks like it might be another night of clear skies.
