25.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. Their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a... toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. They regularly cause intestinal blockages and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Please be safe with your dogs!

23.01.2022 The Legislative Committee of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) is asking for opinions from those with experience in the use of electr...onic collars (e-collars). The IACP is dedicated to the proper, humane use of training tools. We have spent a significant amount of time developing this in-depth survey surrounding the use of the e-collar to better understand its use and its impact as well as user experiences, both good and bad. To keep the survey data true and to prevent corruption by issue motivated groups, whether for or against the use of the tool, there is a $1.00 charge to complete the survey. We thank you for your time and feedback. Click the link below to get started! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/88LZRTG #iacpisforme #iacplegislation

23.01.2022 Hi everyone, something I didn’t think about for a long time was having dogs inside and the products I used in my home making them sick or have allergy. Eg skin rashes etc. I have found a brand of home cleaning products that are totally toxic free (so my dog can lick the floor all he wants lol!) if you want more info please pm me. I’m so happy to share with all my lovely total wellness Dt family.

18.01.2022 I have weekly enquires regarding training dogs for working roles, but people are often using a variety of different and confusing terminology. Definitions are i...mportant for communication! So, lets clarify some of the terminology for dogs in working roles within Australia: THERAPY DOG: A dog trained to provide emotional support, comfort and affection, usually to a group of people or a number of different people - This is also referred to as Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI). They are used in places like hospitals, schools and retirement homes, sometimes they are employed to relieve stress during traumatic events (ie after natural disasters or acts of terrorism) and they are more and more often being found with Allied Health professionals (psychologists, occupational therapists etc) to provide extra support for clients. Therapy Dogs DO NOT have Public Access Rights - this means they are not allowed to accompany owners/ handlers anywhere a pet dog isn’t allowed to go ie shopping centres, public transport, doctors surgery - They require permission to enter facilities to perform Therapy dog duties. ASSISTANCE DOG: A dog trained to alleviate the effects of a person’s disability; As such, they have a very high level of obedience and are trained to perform specialised tasks that help their handler to live a more fulfilled life. Assistance dog is an umbrella term that encompasses a variety of categories: Guide (for the vision impaired), Hearing (for the hearing impaired), Mobility (for those with physical disabilities), Medical (for those with medical conditions ie epilepsy, diabetes, heart conditions) & Psychiatric (for those with disabling neurological or mental health conditions ie ASD, PTSD, DID, BPD). An Assistance Dog does have PUBLIC ACCESS rights, and it is very important that they are not interrupted whilst they are working, as it can be catastrophically dangerous to their handler. Note: A person must be medically diagnosed as disabled; a diagnosis of a condition DOES NOT qualify as a disability ie a person may be diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), but it may or may not be disabling. A disability diagnosis must come from a medical professional. SERVICE DOG: The American term for Assistance Dog. It has been used in Australia in reference to dogs in the service of Military and Law Enforcement, but the correct legal term (as per the DDA - Disability Discrimination Act, 1992) in Australia is Assistance Dog. * As a side note, an Emotional Support Dog/ Companion Dog is nothing more than a pet and DOES NOT have Public Access rights. Feel free to share this post and this information to spread awareness and make sure we are all using the correct words!!
