25.01.2022 What causes trigger points? 2. Car accidents Car accidents are scary and tragic moments in our lives. The majority of people have been in a car accident even if only a small one.... Even minor motor vehicle accidents usually affect our muscles. Sometimes we dont feel the impact immediately, but months or even years later. We might think the cause of our sudden shoulder pain lies in working on the computer for long hours. Or our lower back pain comes from picking up something heavy although it wasnt that heavy. The real cause might be muscles that had been tightened by trigger points created in a car accident long ago.

14.01.2022 #adelaideremedialmassage #adelaidetriggerpointtherapy What causes trigger points? 5. Bad posture... Bad posture can be a sign that your postural muscles are weak because of trigger points. E.g. if your stomach muscles contain too many trigger points they are shortened and pull your upper body forward. Meanwhile your back muscles have to compensate and pull your body into a straight position. In turn these muscles get knots, as well, and a vicious cycle is created. Often a bad posture can only be corrected by releasing trigger points in the core muscles. Also, if you dont look after your posture and slouch or sit / lie / stand in an unnatural position for hours you can expect to set up contractions in your muscle fibers.

14.01.2022 Often manual therapy will cop a bad rap when people say "But there is no evidence" Well... thats because its almost impossible to design well controlled randomized trial to evaluate the effects of manual therapy techniques. But clinically we can see the results of pain reduction and improved function and can therefore assist to facilitate a more effective active rehabilitation plan. So "A lack of evidence doesnt mean a lack of validity"

09.01.2022 Do not ice your soft tissue injury: Ice or cooling when used directly after an injury, is thought to slow down the metabolism of injured tissues with may prevent secondary injuries to cells that are not injured. However cooling may have other cellular effects. Some studies suggest that applying ice on injured soft tissue is not only ineffective but might interfere with the bodys ability to heal. ... Ice could potentially disrupt inflammation, angiogenesis and revascularisation, delay neutrophil and macrophage infiltration as well as increase immature myofibers. This may lead to impaired tissue regeneration and redundant collagen synthesis. Immediately after a soft tissue injury, do no harm and let PEACE guide your approach (British Journal of Sports Medicine): https://blogs.bmj.com//soft-tissue-injuries-simply-need-/

07.01.2022 #adelaideremedialmassage #adelaidetriggerpointtherapy What causes trigger points? 3. Repetitive movements... Every day is filled with at least a few repetitive movements: We type a computer key board, use a gardening tool, hammer nails, play a music instrument, swim, play tennis, golf or other sports that require the same actions over and over. To avoid muscular exhaustion we should give our muscles regular rests and vary our movements from time to time. If this isnt possible our muscles exhaust after a while and unaware to us react by creating trigger points from which our muscles start hurting. The more we ignore this pain the more trigger points we are creating, even in other muscles throughout the body, that start taking over some of the functions of the injured muscles.

06.01.2022 Cortisone injections for hip and knee pain lead to more complications than previously thought, research has found. The anti-inflammatory jabs are used by athletes to mask pain, and to treat symptoms of osteoarthritis. But the study by Boston University School of Medicine found that the treatment could speed up a joints disintegration and force patients to have total knee or hip replacements.... Researchers found 10 per cent of their patients given injections in the hips in 2018 suffered complications, along with four per cent of those who had the jabs in the knees. These can include stress fractures, progressive osteoarthritis or even the collapse of joints. https://www.telegraph.co.uk//cortisone-injections-hi/amp/
