25.01.2022 What do you do on days when you don’t feel very inspired? Today I have felt slow and heavy and tired. With a ‘to do’ list as long as my arm, it has taken all of my will to actually sit down while my baby has a nap and just relax. I took myself outside and just sat in the very fresh cold winter air. And just enjoyed a moment of quiet. The seat hard underneath me just holding me there as I listen to the sound of the ocean. It’s peaceful and just those few moments of stillness and checking in filled me up. How do you get grounded when you feel unsettled? A gentle practice? A surf? A walk? Meditation? Cup of warm tea?

24.01.2022 Peace. Love. Play. Let’s spread love (realise it’s what never changes love is who we are, find it in yourself, and all those around you) Let’s find peace especially in moments of conflict (internal or external)... Let’s play more (be playful with life even when fear is present. Stress less. This too shall pass) @memoriesliketattoos @daniiforde See more

24.01.2022 "in the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, in the expert's mind there are few." ~ Sazuki Shoshin is a word from Zen Buddhism meaning "beginner's mind." It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner would.

23.01.2022 You know when you read something and sigh in a really content kind of way...

18.01.2022 Support Just like gratitude flows in two directions. Some may say give and receive. Just as it may seem that @memoriesliketattoos is supporting me by giving my feet a place to to rest on her back, they (my feet) also offer her guidance to lift up out of the pelvis and also weight to ground down into the earth. This gives her the freedom to lengthen through the spine and frees up the shoulders @daniiforde

17.01.2022 Support This has been a bit of a theme this week with my students and clients. How do we best support ourselves and in turn truly support others? We often talk about the way we communicate with ourselves, our bodies, our emotions. We look at how we begin to have that conversation with the areas of ourselves that have been left unheard for the longest. From tightness in our hip, to an emotion held on to from past trauma, we begin to approach our shadows with a sense of fri...endliness. In a teaching role we are there to hold that space for another. To be their pointer towards grounding, to aid their stability. In this image my role is not to put my student into a position, to be forceful or add anything at all. My role is to help her find herself in space. My foot by her foot anchoring the heel, my leg behind her hips letting her know if her weight sinks back behind her heels, my hand on her pelvis giving her the sense of grounding towards the earth (this also allows her to lift up into me), my hand purposefully on the rounding in her back as a guide to find length here. @daniiforde @memoriesliketattoos See more

16.01.2022 How much do you know about your gut? People should pay attention to their gut health because it directly impacts not only their health now but also their health in the future as well. Most of our immune system is located in the gut and the food we eat directly interacts with our immune system. Personally it took me a long time to understand the importance of my gut health. And the more I learned and discovered through trial and error and a lot of expert advice the more EVERY...THING made more sense. Need some advice from a specialist? We recommend @kirsten.greene.nd

16.01.2022 Bakasana - Crow To come into Crow Pose from standing, -with control lower into a squat, belly resting on thighs. - place your hands flat on your mat about shoulder-width apart with the fingers spread wide. - Keep the hands and feet where they are but lift the hips way up toward the sky... - bend the knees and lift the heels off the floor so just the balls of the feet are down. - Gently press the knees in to the backs of the triceps and begin to shift your weight into the fingertips - picking one foot at a time off the floor. - Bend the elbows if necessary for balance. - keep intra abdominal pressure consistent for stabilisation - find that lift in the center of the body that eventually allows you to straighten the elbows and hold. - Be sure to bring your gaze just between the hands to maintain balance. As you can see here I need to lengthen the back of my neck by lowering my gaze which will help give me length in my spine. I also need to work on drawing my scapula to the back wall of my rib cage as you can see it floating. @daniiforde See more

15.01.2022 We love to learn together, grow together, support each other in all aspects of life. When you work with a coach in any modality it becomes a unique and incredibly rewarding relationship. You help each other learn more about yourselves and push each other through boundaries you may have never crossed alone. Who are your mentors? Give them a shoutout in the comments!

12.01.2022 Cupping? In remedial therapy we use trigger points and deep muscle work to release tension and spasm. Some tension is so long standing that other techniques such as acupuncture, hot stones or cupping can do wonders at helping to release. We love Cupping because it increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and ...create new blood vessels in the tissue. Don’t worry about the dark suction circles they fade after a few days. Have you ever tried it? Tell us your experience in the comments @daniiforde See more

10.01.2022 We love, support, uplift and cherish all our sisters. #challengeaccepted thank you to @coach_jodz and @stella.movement

10.01.2022 We cannot get enough of nutritional bowls full of heart warming yumminess. Thanks to @earthofmariaa for the inspiration. We are a broken record on this but true believers in variety variety variety in your diet. We always try to include a green element along with some good fats. Insert avo and asparagus

07.01.2022 We are getting behind Bluearth for world walking day on Friday! And so are Tiff and Ed! Very exciting for Bluearth and the inner Melbourne schools who this fundraiser will help fund to get the Bluearth Active schools program!

06.01.2022 We have been speaking lately about compassion. In times where fear has become the leading narrative of every headline and every story we are shown, let’s meet it with compassion. I don’t know about you but we have been feeling all the feels. From sadness and frustration at the current situations and perhaps the disappointment of how things are handled by those in powerful positions. To complete contentment with more time at home with your loved ones, your kids, your parents o...r simply with yourself, perhaps some time doing things you have been putting off for a long time. Well let’s meet it all with compassion. Compassion towards those who don’t have the support we do during these challenging times, compassion to our leaders who most likely have very little control, compassion to the situation itself as it teaches us that everything is impermanent including our Selves. And compassion of course to ourselves and towards our full range of emotions. Who can you reach out to today and offer some love and compassion?

06.01.2022 Urdhva mukha svanasana Upward facing dog is a pose that often makes me cringe. Yes you read right. It’s one of (quite a few poses) that you see in group classes where the majority of the class are doing more harm than good. Next time you practice try something a little different.... Instead of rolling through chaturanga and then lifting up into up dog by over extending the lower back, come in from downward dog or even modified quadruped. - from down dog begin to shift the weight towards the hands. - keep the heels aligned as they lift up directly above the balls of the feet. - as the weight shift forward and the shoulders move to their position over the top of the hands and wrists, the pelvis gently lowers down through plank. You are simply listening to where you can keep moving forward without loosing the length in the spine. - we want to avoid hinging in the lumbar spine. - thighs never reach the earth (legs are hovering. - to come out. Bend the knees. Send the hips back and up over the knees as the weight of the body moves back towards the centre. - push through the hands to a vent knee down dog. We want to create length through the front body but maintain length through the back body. In the picture you can see: - I’ve lowered a little to far as I am just starting to hinge in the lower back. - my scapula are compromised as they lift slightly away from the back wall of my rib cage. So I know there is work to be done here. And I enjoy the learning, the experience of it all. @daniiforde See more

06.01.2022 I have been avoiding the big deep blue for a few weeks. Escaping her fresh and icy cold waves as I listen to these moments of craving the earth, grounding, warmth and support. Being intuitive with your physical practice is just as important as in other decisions in your day to day life. Don’t get me wrong I love the ocean and a big part of me is missing getting out there. But I am choosing to listen. To have a couple of weeks feeling steady as other waves of life are rolling through. I am upskilling and delving a little deeper into the 5 element theory of yin yoga. Looking forward to exploring the water element in the coming days with @rachel_fearnley and @lucyfosterperkins and am grateful the shared teachings.

05.01.2022 Parivrtta utkatasana variation to revolved lunge. Benefits: detoxifying twist, strength building, focus. - Begin in chair (utkatasana), deeply bend knees so thighs are parallel to the mat.... - Take hands in prayer at heart center, twist to the left right elbow on left knee, left elbow high. - gaze down. Variation: Move to revolved lunge by stepping right leg back to lunge. - reach right heel back (heel directly a over ball of foot) as you reach crown of the head forward, gaze can then go up. @daniiforde See more

04.01.2022 Home The places where we feel most at home are the ones that bring us into even the most subtle memories; the feel of the ground beneath your feet, the smell of a particular flower or the salty air, a colour on the walls or an old cushion that’s been on the chair for years. Not to mention the people you find there. Our home @laplayitabeachhouse holds all our magical memories

03.01.2022 How much time do you put into caring for yourself day to day? Do you plan ahead and meal prep? Or do you have a well stocked fridge and wing it? We find that when we are mindful in nourishing ourselves well and it is on our ‘agenda’ if you will, then what we choose to put into our bodies becomes part of our ritual. And in turn it is something we enjoy as part of our day/week as supposed to something we dread or causes us anxiety or stress.... Here are some freshly squeezed orange, carrot and ginger juices served up by @candianifood_27 on retreat I mexico. It is a great way to boost the vitamin C. And a great pre surf kick! See more

03.01.2022 One of our favourite Mantras GATE GATE PARA GATE PARASAM GATE BODHI SVAHA Gone, gone, gone to the Other Shore, attained the Other Shore having never left.... This, The Heart Stra or quite beautifully: "The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom". This is also the PrajnaParamita of the Buddhists, the 'beyond all knowledge,' in other words, the point where subject and object no longer exist. Chants, sutras, like poetry can be interpreted in countless ways that speak to you at the moment you hear or speak the words. How do you interpret the heart sutra?

02.01.2022 Slowly build strength up with the help of the wall. My focus is at the ribs, I'm drawing the lower rib cage (in this case inverted) up and inward to bring my diaphragm horizontal to my pelvis. I maintain IAP (NOT sucking the belly in!!) this creates length in my spine and no hinging at TL junction. My legs are strong and 90 degrees at the wall. As you can see my hands are a little too far away from the wall preferably I'd move them so they are directly under my hips. It's a work in progress but gee it feels good to be upside down and to feel a small opening in the shoulder girdle. As always pay attention to the detail to find little insights into your movement patterns. The knuckles of my hands are lifting up so I am missing out on some of my support and losing the sense of strength that comes with it.

02.01.2022 Intentions An amazing thing happens when you get honest with yourself and start doing what you love, what makes you happy. You stop wishing for the weekend. You stop merely looking forward to special events. You begin to live in each moment and you start feeling like a human being. You just ride the wave that is life, with this feeling of contentment and joy. You move fluidly, steadily, calm and grateful. A veil is lifted, and a whole new perspective is born. @daniiforde
