15.01.2022 Is your pet on adequate paralysis tick protection?. We have unfortunately treated two patients in less than a week due to paralysis ticks - bringing our total to five patients in a matter of weeks. If you are unsure what your parasitic prevention covers, please phone the clinic and we will discuss whether it is effective against the paralysis tick or not.... If you see a paralysis tick on your pet (either walking on, attached, engorged or a tick crater) and/or recognise any of the following symptoms please phone us straight away - tick paralysis can be fatal. - a tick crater (where the tick was attached) - wobbly hind legs or hind leg paralysis - excessive salivation - difficulty breathing (not always apparent) - partial or full facial paralysis (unable to blink/close eyes) - loss of voice (loss of bark in dogs, meow in cats) - collapsing - vomiting or retching

08.01.2022 Happy New Year’s Eve animal lovers! While fireworks are exciting for humans, they are terrifying for animals, so it’s important to consider our furry friends. Protect your pets from the loud noises by keeping them inside in a safe place, keeping them calm and making sure they have access to lots of water. A game or two to distract them will help too. ... Our clinic will be open on Thursday 31st December 20 8.30am 5pm. Our clinic will be CLOSED on Friday 1st January 2021. We will resume normal hours - Saturday 2nd January 2021 8.30am 12pm Monday 4th January 2021 onwards 8.30am 6pm. While our clinic is closed, please contact the Small Animal Specialist Hospital at Tuggerah on (02) 4311 1311 for any emergencies.

07.01.2022 Brittany has sadly completed her last week with us to move on to a new career, she has decided to cross over in to 'human nursing' - as we in the animal world call it. Britt has worked at TVC for a little over 3 years and will be missed by the staff, clients and patients. We wish you all the best in your new endeavours.... If you are half the human nurse that you were during your time as vet nurse, you'll do amazing!. With love, everyone at TVC x

04.01.2022 Spring has sprung and is the peak time on the coast for Paralysis Ticks. As the weather warms up and we continue to get rainy weather the paralysis ticks start breeding. All domestic cats and dogs are at risk of paralysis ticks. We have already had 2 tick cases in hospital in the last week! Tick envenomation can cause vomiting, loss of voice, increased panting, and weakness in the back legs. This progresses to paralysis of the legs and respiratory muscles. If your pet is not ...treated early, this paralysis is fatal. Most pets, if treated early, recover in 2-3 days, however more extreme cases may be in hospital for a week and may not survive. There are lots of tick preventatives on the market, some are better than others. At Toukley Vet Clinic we recommend using Bravecto, which comes as a chewable treat (3 months protection against fleas and ticks) or a spot-on (6 months protection against fleas and ticks). We encourage feeling over your cat & dog every day after they have been outside. Not only is this a fun bonding opportunity between you and your pet, it could save their life if you discover a tick. At the same time, your pet will enjoy the attention and a lovely massage! Please come and talk to any of our friendly and well-trained nurses and vets at Toukley Vet Clinic for more information and the best tick prevention plan for your pet.
