17.01.2022 Opportunity to learn code and prepare for future careers a notice from TSAA committee member Anthony Woods (an IT Professional). The Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies requires all students from Years 3-8 to learn to code. In order to be effective, students must adapt to a new way of thinking. GrokLearning.com offers a fun way to learn this. It is free during the Covid19 lockdown -- until 5th July 2020; after which a subscription will be needed to access the course...s. Individual subscriptions are available for $5 for primary and $30 for secondary school-aged children. My daughter started her career in programming on GrokLearning, and is now a permanent part-time employee working as a software developer. Another cool feature is the Arduino course, which teaches kids how to program an Arduino device. Where they can invent their own Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. Arduino is an open-source hardware and software company, project, and user community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital devices. Its products are licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) or the GNU General Public License (GPL), permitting the manufacture of Arduino boards and software distribution by anyone. Arduino boards are available commercially in preassembled form or as do-it-yourself (DIY) kits. I personally sponsor a couple of kids on Grok, to help them realize if programming is (or can be) part of their future. See more

11.01.2022 Hypocritical attitudes towards disability in the workplace revealed... With shocking new research revealing a staggering three quarters (76%) of Australians agree that workplaces need to be more inclusive when it comes to hiring people with a disability. However, three quarters (78%) also believe that having a disability leads to discrimination in the workplace. Not ideal for the one in five Australians living with a disability is it... This ironic contrast is highlighted in ...new research by the Tourette Syndrome Association of Australia (TSAA). Despite a quarter (24%) of employed Australians agreeing that their workplaces could do more to embrace diversity, one in two (47%) admit they would have a problem working alongside someone that had involuntary tics, such as screaming or yelling. A further 42% wouldn’t be happy working alongside someone with a physical or swearing tic. The neurological disorder Tourette Syndrome presents as motor and vocal tics and this out-dated attitude towards those living with Tourette Syndrome unfairly limits the opportunities available to them in the workforce. Sadly, two thirds (69%) of Australians with a disability admit that it has impacted their ability to get a job whilst a dismal 4% of the population have worked alongside someone with Tourette Syndrome. With discrimination in the workplace a hot topic this year, the research further found less than half (47%) of all Australians had worked with someone with a disability. Of those, a quarter say their colleague with a disability wasn’t given the same opportunities as everyone else (26%) and were treated differently (24%). To coincide with Tourette Syndrome Awareness Week (3rd 9th May), the TSAA is encouraging Aussies to ‘tic’ the box on inclusion and embrace disabilities in the workplace by sharing a selfie of themselves or their colleagues with the hashtags #ticthebox and #TSAW21 [1] https://humanrights.gov.au//national-inquiry-employment-an.

Excitingly, The Voice has moved to Channel Seven, so with that, we're looking to refresh the format and hopefully unearth some great 'everyday' singers from all walks of life, with different stories, backgrounds and sounds to take part. All people need to do is submit a short video of them singing and tell us their story here: thevoicecasting.com.au Our applications will close rea...lly soon (currently set for next Sunday 27 Sep) so we're keen to encourage anyone interested to apply straight away. 03.01.2022 A post from River Night TSAA just reminded me to share the Post Expo report from my Brisbane Expo earlier this month. We raised $9 000.00 for TSAA which is a nice start but I want to do better each expo. Check out the cool pics in the report and look out for some of our awesome volunteers and the TSAA President rocking out at the Gala Dinner. Bianca was also there showcasing her work and did fantastic. It is all happening again in Perth in 2 weeks so please share especially ...if you are in Perth or know people that are. There is a free team of professionals to ask any NDIS questions and help with anything NDIS related if you are having trouble. The services there are great to link with even if you don't use the NDIS. This is something one of my Companies I own does and of course if the owner has TS then I am gonna use it as an opportunity to raise funds and increase exposure for TSAA. There will be a TSAA stand and we hope to see you there in Perth as we look to raise more funds for TSAA! Share Away: ) Here's the link for the Channel 10 piece we had done and featured our TSAA President. I basically dragged the Channel 10 journo to the TSAA stand and said interview these people : p https://youtu.be/EdxL0FqGL1Y Here is the video that shows what our Expos are like https://youtu.be/4eDT0w7jfy8 Here is the event link https://fb.me/e/1YITdrjNj Here is the post expo report and pics link on our website https://www.developingauscommunities.com.au/.../dac-expo...
