13.01.2022 Domestic travel is taking off as borders finally tumble. Earlier this month, Qantas confirmed plans to significantly boost its domestic flights after NSW allowe...d unrestricted passenger service to resume to Victoria from Nov. 23. According to Routes Digest, there are currently just 10 return flights per week between SYD and MEL, but after Nov. 23 the Qantas Group intends to operate 117 return flights per week. Qantas is also expanding its network from Canberra with the launch of three new nonstop domestic routes over the course of the next month (Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Hobart.) The flights follow on from the recent launch of CBR-Gold Coast flights, the reinstatement of flights to Perth and additional services to Brisbane.. With international borders still closed, Australians are more inspired than ever to explore places in their own backyard, Qantas Domestic & International CEO Andrew David said. Since state and territory border restrictions eased in September, Qantas has announced nine new routes across Australia. See more

04.01.2022 Tourism industry position on New Spirits Vessel Replacement TICT Media Release 21 December 2020 The Tasmanian Government is being urged to end uncertainty ab...out the replacement of the Spirit of Tasmania ships. Tasmanaia’s peak tourism industry body, Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, today released its submission to the Vessel Replacement Task Force established to review options for procuring the Spirit of Tasmania ships in Australia. TICT CEO Luke Martin said the unsolicited submission - the Task Force has not proactively sought input from the tourism industry - was sent to Task Force Members and the State Government late last week. The replacement of the Spirits will be the single biggest public investment ever made by a Tasmanian Government for tourism, so its critical our industry has a voice in this Task Force proces, Mr Martin said. In 2017 we were told the first of the new Spirit of Tasmania ships would arrive in the Mersey in 2021. Today, the ships are not on order, we do not know who is building them, when they will arrive, and it seems the conversation has become all about supporting local ship builders - not securing the best ships for Bass Strait for the next thirty years. The submission expresses confidence in TT Line’s original vessel replacement strategy, and the proposal for two new purpose built mono-hull ships to grow the current successful service. Why would we mess with something that has been such a success for Tasmania and it’s tourism industry for so long? TT Line knows that what ships they need to provide more capacity for tourists, freight, and locals, and we just need to get on with it. The submission can be viewed here: https://tict.com.au//Submission_to_Vessel_Replacement_Task
