25.01.2022 From baby to grandparent, Tower Dental helps families to have healthy teeth and beautiful smiles.

25.01.2022 Do you know that over 80% of modern diseases have a direct link to stress in some form or another? With a statistic so high, it’s easy to understand how stress can also have a significant negative impact on our oral health. At Tower Dental, we recognise many signs of stress within our patients based on what we see in their mouths. Repetitive coping mechanisms almost exclusively linked to stress and anxiety such as cheek biting or teeth grinding is not something that anyone else would necessarily know about, but do you know how to deal with these issues? We can help you with so much more than just your teeth, give our clinic a call today.

25.01.2022 Australian dental practitioners have the highest infection control standards in the world and the safety of their patients and their teams is a cornerstone of Australian dental practice. Where appropriate, we will take extra precautions to keep you safe during the pandemic. You should not delay urgent dental treatment and we are open and ready to help.

25.01.2022 It is a fact that mercury is a toxin. However this does not mean that it is dangerous for dental patients and the Australian Dental Association has deemed that it is safe as a component of an amalgam filling. For patients who prefer to avoid the use of amalgam, we are able to offer an alternative in white dental fillings instead, whether for safety concerns or simply for a more natural appearance in order to enhance a smile. If you are concerned about your amalgam fillings and you wish to have them replaced, or if you are simply wishing to get rid of the dark appearance of traditional fillings and would like to know more about the cosmetic white versions available at Tower Dental, please call us on (03) 9817 7144.

24.01.2022 We have taken a number of steps to help protect our staff and patients during this outbreak, some of which include: We have implemented a daily health screening check point and log for all employees entering the workplace. Our staff pay special attention to their own symptoms and stay home if they present with symptoms of COVID-19. We request that the patient limit the number of visitors accompanying him or her to the dental appointment to only those people who are necess...ary. We advise patients that they, and anyone accompanying them to the appointment, will be requested to wear a cloth face covering or facemask when entering the facility and will undergo screening for fever and symptoms consistent with COVID-19. We telephone triage all patients in need of dental care. Assess the patient’s dental condition and determine whether the patient needs to be seen in the dental setting. We have provided supplies for respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, including alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR) with at least 60% alcohol and tissues. We have removed toys, magazines, and other frequently touched objects from our waiting room that cannot be regularly cleaned and disinfected. There are clear signs at the front door to alert people who have either travelled overseas, had cold or flu symptoms or come in to contact with anyone that has had COVID-19 not to enter the building, and to call us for instructions. We adhere to strict environmental cleaning and disinfection procedures consistently and correctly after each patient. These are just a few of the many steps our practice has undertaken to ensure we are operating as safety as possible for staff and patients. Please call our clinic if you have any questions.

23.01.2022 Just like real teeth, dentures can become stained by tea, coffee, and red wine if you drink these things frequently. Smoking can also lead to denture staining. To preserve your set of pearly white dentures for as long as possible, minimize your consumption of staining drinks and, if you’re a smoker, consider quitting. Tobacco use can also contribute to gum disease and mouth cancer, so there will be lots of benefits to your oral health when you wave goodbye to cigarettes.

23.01.2022 Did you know that dental implants have been around as early as 2000 BC? Early versions of dental implants were used in the civilization of ancient China. Carved bamboo pegs were originally used to replace the missing teeth at this time. Fast forward to 2020 and luckily we don't have to endure a mouthful of bamboo, if you're interested in dental implants give our friendly team a call on (03) 9817 7144

22.01.2022 If cared for properly, dentures are expected to last up to 5-8 years before needing replacement. During this time, they wear out and your mouth changes shape. This is why your dentures will eventually need to be relined or remade to remain as safe, comfortable and natural looking as possible.

21.01.2022 Although most of you will look after your teeth reasonably well, some of you may do less so with your gums. This is unfortunate as good gum health is as important as healthy teeth. Indeed, if gum disease is not detected and treated early enough, there is a real risk of tooth loss as the supporting bone becomes damaged and less able to secure the tooth in place. In most cases, any instances of gum disease that we detect can be managed through treatment and guidance by our hygienist using non invasive methods. Where the gums have been badly infected though, you may require a more invasive treatment known as ‘root scaling’ or a ‘deep clean’. This has to be carried out by a suitably qualified dentist and not the hygienist.

20.01.2022 The ‘Problem’ with Coffee Melbourne is known for its cultural diversity, excellent dining options and amazing street art. It's also known for being the coffee capital of the world and as we come out of stage 4 restrictions many of us will no doubt find ourselves sipping away at our local favourite coffee shop. But could this seemingly harmless habit be ruining our smile? Unfortunately, yes. Whilst coffee itself is not directly harmful to our teeth, the specialty drinks and s...nacks that often go with it, can be. Coffee itself will not cause any actual harm to our teeth. In fact in 2011, researchers reported findings that coffee drinking is associated with a lower risk of depression among women, a lower risk of lethal prostate cancer among men, and a lower risk of stroke among men and women. The down side is it can stain your teeth and a frequent espresso drinker may find that their teeth become quite badly discoloured over time. If this is the case with you we can help get your smile back to a dazzling white by having a teeth whitening treatment in Balwyn. If the staining is too heavy however, you may need to consider having porcelain dental veneers fitted instead. For teeth whitening near Balwyn, Kew, Camberwell, Hawthorn, Surrey Hills, Mont Albert & Deepdene, please call Tower Dental today! See more

17.01.2022 Rather than just moving some toothpaste around your mouth, you need to ensure you remove as much plaque and leftover bits of food as possible. With a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, use a gentle circular motion on the outside and inside surfaces of the teeth. Use a light back-and-forth motion on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day for at least 2 minutes to help keep your teeth and mouth healthy. Spend 30 seconds on each qua...rter of your mouth. A simple tip is to visualise a tooth as having 5 surfaces. Three of these the top, the front and the back all need brushing. Flossing takes care of the 2 hidden surfaces in between the teeth. Place the head of your toothbrush against your teeth, then tilt the bristle tips to a 45-degree angle against the gum line. Move the brush in small circular movements, several times, on all the surfaces of every tooth. Brush the outer surfaces of each tooth, upper and lower, keeping the bristles angled against the gum line. Use the same method on the inside surfaces of all your teeth. Brush the chewing surfaces of the teeth. To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several small circular strokes with the toe (the front part) of the brush. Brushing your tongue will freshen your breath and clean your mouth by removing bacteria. When you have finished brushing, try to spit out the toothpaste and don’t rinse with water. Leaving some toothpaste on your teeth gives your teeth some extra ongoing protection.

15.01.2022 Whilst there are certain benefits to growing old, such as having the time to pursue our hobbies and spend time with the grandchildren, it can also be a challenging time, especially where our health is concerned. Our oral health is no exception to this, and the wear and tear on our teeth, along with other factors, can present a real challenge to keeping our teeth and gums healthy. Oral health is a significant factor affecting older peoples’ quality of life, overall health and ...wellbeing. Tooth loss, tooth decay (dental caries), gum disease (periodontitis), dry mouth (xerostomia) and oral cancers are commonly experienced by older people. If you are in the later years of your life, or are a carer for someone who is, why not talk to our Tower Dental dentists about oral health care, and let us help you or a loved one live later years in comfort.

13.01.2022 While most babies don't start getting teeth until they are six months old, infant dental care is important from the very beginning. Our dentists recommend an initial visit before the child's first birthday to make sure teeth and gums are cared for and cleaned properly. 10.01.2022 Dental practices in metropolitan Melbourne have now moved to Level 1 dental restrictions. This means that we will be able to resume non-urgent procedures including routine examinations, restorative treatment and orthodontic care according to the Level 1 dental restriction guidelines. We will continue to operate under the ‘Heavily Restricted’ guidelines. These guidelines refer to physical distancing, wearing masks, stringent cleaning schedules, asking staff to declare they are symptom free and have not been directed to isolate, and creation of workforce bubbles. We look forward to seeing you back in our clinic.

10.01.2022 Some patients who are at higher risk of problems may be requested to have their teeth and gums checked more frequently. The key role of a check up is to look for any problems that you might have with your teeth, gums and the oral cavity in general. By having them at regular intervals, and with good oral care at home, any problems that we find are likely to be treatable with a relatively minor procedure. If you miss appointments, these problems are almost certain to worsen and any treatment you might eventually need to have are likely to be more extensive. If you think you may be due for a check up call our clinic today, we look forward to seeing you!

09.01.2022 Help prevent dental problems from happening by following these helpful tips: Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. The best time to brush is last thing at night, before you go to bed. Cut down on how much sugar you have and how often you have it.... Keep sugar consumption to mealtimes. This will reduce the time your teeth are under attack. Use interdental brushes or floss to clean in between your teeth before brushing.
