25.01.2022 A lasting reminder of the importance of shaping peace was created last weekend when members of the local Bah faith gathered with local families, children and others to celebrate the installation of a peace pole in a riverside park in East Fremantle, marking International Day of Peace 2020, which is observed each year on 21 September. The soft plastic collected is sent to Replas in Victoria where the plastic is shredded and moulded into new products. One bench alone is made out of around 15,000 to 17,500 pieces of soft plastic! This creates a circular system, reduces the need for virgin materials and results in less waste bein...g sent to landfill! Any interested businesses, community groups or apartment buildings are advised to register for a collection on the City of Fremantle website. The Towns Strategic Community Plan sets the overall direction for the Town across key areas and is now under review. The Plan prioritises the Towns operations including the delivery of major projects, providing quality ...services, the maintenance of facilities, protecting and enhancing the natural environment (parks, reserves, river foreshore), preserving our heritage, protecting and improving streetscapes, facilitating leisure and recreation for all ages and promoting local businesses and much more. 02.01.2022 A new mural depicting East Fremantle’s iconic locations will soon be revealed in Glasson Park as part of the Town’s commitment to public art and will also feature in a new Community Calendar for 2021, available for the community in early December. In August 2020, the Town’s Public Art Panel, headed by Deputy Mayor Jenny Harrington, decided on a refresh of the Glasson Park mural, and approached White Gum Valley artist Jessee Lee Johns to design a mural that would feature a com...posite image of many of the Town’s key visual icons. The draft design was shared with the community in October, and submissions were invited from residents who nominated locations in the Town for inclusion in the new work. Local icons include: * Town Hall and former Plympton Post Office * Bougainvillea on George Street * Canning Highway house with ‘Freo Dockers’ garage door * Glasson Park * Leeuwin Barracks * The Left Bank and Tradewinds Hotel * Locke Park’s gazebo * Richmond Raceway * Royal George Hotel’s roof/spire * Shark Park * Swan River at Camp Waller and more.
