25.01.2022 Happy Day 43/72, limited edition intaglio print on paper by Melissa Wright. Its always a happy day when we unwrap beautiful new works Over the past six years Melissa has spent more time outdoors carving stone and wood sculptures than she has inside her studio, so its real treat to take delivery of her new print-works once again In January this year Melissa attended the Te Kupenga International Stone Symposium, New Zealand, where she relished the challenge of carving ...a huge boulder of andesite stone!! With the dramatic turn global events since, Melissa returned home to North coast NSW and has resumed her passion for carving, albeit on a much smaller scale, onto metal plates . . . Youll find images of the first batch of Melissas works on our website. Shes working on more plates and will have prints of those new works to us in the coming months - very exciting http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/melissa-wright . . . #melissawright #intaglio #intaglioprintmaker #newworks #australianprintmaker #worksonpaper #happybirthday #townandcountrygallery #yarragon See more

25.01.2022 'Heavenly Bodies' (detail) 92x152cm oil on canvas, by Nick Perrin. Photographing our new delivery of works by Nick today the detail in this beautiful painting made me think of a little girl, Mia whose dandelion wish is: "that we all stay happy for the rest of lockdown". Feeling supported by kind, caring people gives us all a leg up over our hurdles. Hope you're feeling supported and able to reach out and show others you care also... help spread Mia's dandelion wish and sp...rinkle happiness wherever you can To view the full image of this stunning painting, along with Nick's other new works please visit our website: http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/nick-perrin . . . #nickperrin #gippslandartist #australiancontemporaryartist #paintingoftheday #dandelionwishes #sprinklinghappiness #fieldsofflowers #townandcountrygallery #yarragon #artgalleryvictoria

24.01.2022 Dogs are welcome visitors to our town; Penelope (Pointer) and Donny (Dachshund) have become our favourite temporary residents here at the gallery. Were enjoying them while we can, as we know it wont be long before theyre adopted and bringing enjoyment to their new owners . . . We never know quite what Lachie Yuill has in store for us when he rocks up at our front door. Often collaborating with his great mate rohanmetalart, the two local lads are responsible for man...y of our very impressive scrap sculptures, including Clyde (Clydesdale) and Kevin (Kangaroo). Lachie & Rohans works are full of personality and always create a lot of interest and banter; we often joke that Clyde is Yarragons major tourist attraction!! http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/lachie-yuill . . . Were open every day 10-4. Bring your dogs for a walk around town and pop in to say Hi. The coffee shops are open and the doggie water bowls are out for your precious pooches to quench their thirst as well . . . #scrapmetalart #metalart #dogsculpture #scrapmetaldog #scrapmetalsculptor #gippslandartist #madeingippsland #townandcountrygallery #yarragon #visitbawbaw See more

23.01.2022 New Broom 104x79cm, acrylic on canvas by Elisabeth Williams. We just love the visuals Lis comes up with, inspired by day-to-day events. Now anyone with a #tumutbroom will know its your best friend this time of year and a joy to use . . . 22.01.2022 Most of us are missing aspects of life that once brought great enjoyment. One of the many things John & I miss is the opportunity to visit artists in their studios. Theres such a feeling of connection that emanates from chatting with an artist in their creative environment and hearing the story behind the evolvement of their latest works . . . Thankfully theres ways around most hurdles; were so fortunate in this age to enjoy the sharing of images, enabling us to keep... in touch. Quite a few of our artists have been sending through images of paintings theyve just finished and have set aside for our gallery. Its been a pleasure to upload these images to our website. A beautiful image of Emma Niehofs latest painting Pulpit Rock, a Narrative came through this morning. Details: 76x76cm, mixed media on canvas . . . For those whove had the pleasure of viewing Emmas paintings up close, youll appreciate much of her work is built up with subtle layers. Texture and colour emerging through opaque and translucent brush and palette-knife work that is applied, scraped back and reworked. In this particular painting, Emma has also sketched in details with crayon, creating secondary areas of interest beyond the dramatic shadow of the rock face crevasse. In Emmas words, "I think it is an intriguing artwork that is light and dramatic at the same time, hopefully depicting in an interesting way the markings, lines and variations in colour of this rock formation" Head over to our website to view more of Emmas stunning paintings. http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/emma-niehof/ DM or call 0448 034 757 for further details; freight options and Lay-By available. . . . #pulpitrock #benboydnationalpark #emmaniehof #contemporaryaustralianart #abstractart #mixedmediapainting #paintingoftheday #australianartist #modernlandscapepainting #townandcountrygallery @ Town & Country Gallery

18.01.2022 Surrounded by a treasure trove of exotic jewellery components, all personally hand-picked for their unique and beautiful qualities, Lynn Walsh combines some very colourful stories in the creation of each piece in her diverse and ever-changing jewellery range. From remote artisan markets across the globe, to international gem shows, Lynn is no whistle-stop tourist; she relishes in making a connection with makers and sellers of all manner of intriguing finds that catch her ...curious eye. Most often not knowing how or when a particular bead, stone or fabric will be worked into a design; Lynn hunts and gathers for the pure interest each component holds individually. Herein lays the magic and mystique of Lynns jewellery . . . From her Gippsland studio, Lynn does not have to scour the internet or flick through fashion magazines for inspiration. Taking a birds-eye view of her collection and plucking out a sumptuous crystal or vintage bead is enough to ignite her imagination and so begins the journey of a new living adornment. As with many artisans, Lynn often starts creating without an end result in mind; often re-working and substituting elements along the way. Some pieces may sit on Lynnes work bench partly finished for days . . . For Lynn, one of the most rewarding aspects of her passion is reliving travels and experiences through anecdotes behind her designs. The origins and properties of various beads, stones and elements are shared on description cards accompanying every piece in her range . . . Were excited to say Lynns finished uploading images of her new designs to our website; youll find every gorgeous piece proudly on display here at the gallery (yes were open, 10-3 everyday, including Mothers Day). http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/lynn-walsh/ . . 18.01.2022 It’s been an unbelievably busy few weeks here in Yarragon, with the lead up to welcoming our wonderful Melbourne visitors back to town and enjoying the freedom of being able to get out and about to visit our artists in their studios The gallery is looking amazing with so many new works - I almost don't know where to start; but I do want to say I am sorry to disappoint any followers that rely on our posts as a window to the gallery. My passion to source unique, beautiful pi...eces and to present artworks in a beautiful gallery environment is often all-consuming and unfortunately, at times I allow those roles to over-shadow the emerging (and valued) social media side of the business. Images of new works are uploaded to our website daily and as noted in previous posts, a new website is being built in the background which we look forward to launching in the new year It's an absolute pleasure to post this image of one of our highly-regarded Gippsland ceramic artists, Mandi Thorpe. A visit to Mandi's studio is always enthralling; I never know quite what to expect as her work is constantly evolving. She drops little hints here and there before my visits but waits to unveil her latest works on my arrival. On entering Mandi's studio this last visit I was immediately drawn to the most stunning ceramic lamp shades. With light filtering through the carved hollows, beautiful patterns played across the walls and surfaces of Mandi's gallery space. My visit always involves a coffee (served in one of Mandi's fabulous 'dimple' beakers of course); it was a real treat to meet Mandi's daughter Lucy as well. Lucy, an enthusiastic creative soul herself, has returned to Gippsland after two years teaching in Alice Springs. Lucy and Mandi bounce ideas off each other, animatedly chatting about their vision to work on projects together. Along with boxes full to the brim with 'dimple' beakers, lanterns and bowls, I was thrilled to also bring back the most gorgeous hand-built sculptures by both Mandi and Lucy. You’ll find images on our website: http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/mandi-thorpe #mandithorpe #ceramiclampshades #gippslandmaker #australianceramicartist

17.01.2022 Cape Conran Cliffs 60x76cm, acrylic on canvas by Emma Niehof. The craggy cliffs of Cape Conran create a bold profile against the electric blue sky of Emmas latest painting As layers of paint are applied and scraped back, subtle textures and forms emerge, delightfully offering a deeper story in the rock formations below. . . .... Emmas paintings evolve over weeks on the easel. Her approach is very contemplative; even the harshest environment takes on a sense of peace and order, as details of reality are eliminated to reveal the true essence she interprets from a landscape. Emmas paintings are inspired by her travels, but its not always the prettiest of views that capture her attention. Her paintings make us feel nature is the master; were left dwarfed and awed by the magnificence of the natural world http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/emma-niehof . . . #capeconran #cliffface #electricbluesky #emmaniehof #abstractlandscape #contemporaryaustralianartist #inspiedbygippsland #townandcountrygallery #discovergippsland #visitvictoria

16.01.2022 Theres always a lot of excitement when we hang a new body of work just loving the striking sophistication of Julie Lundgren Coulters earth pigment landscapes. Well known for her beautiful oils, capturing the ever-changing seasons of her rural home in South Gippsland; Julie has recently accrued a number of awards and quite a following for her highly textured, minimalist artworks. With a focus on simplicity of form, the pared back landscapes literally embody elements of the... earth through the use of charcoal, chalk and clays which Julie sources around her farm and local roadsides. Stunning ochres are also incorporated to highlight contours; the brighter orange/reds gifted by a friend in the Kimberley region. 16.01.2022 Photographing new works by Malcolm Boyd today... always so hard not to take one of everything home with me Hand-built using moulding, coiling, slabbing and modelling techniques; Malcolm's pots feature inlays of coloured clays dug up from a dam bank on his Fernbank property, East Gippsland. Surface slips are also applied and carved back to reveal images such as trees, flowers, insects and fish. Malcolm uses a variety of glazes to adorn his works, including very ancient ori...ental glazes; their beauty not fully revealed until after firing to temperatures up to 1300C in his wood-fired kiln. No two firings ever produce the same results, which adds to the intrigue at the moment the kiln has cooled and the pots are individually (and triumphantly) unpacked Our collection of Malcolm’s pots may be viewed on our website: http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/malcolm-boyd . . . #handbuiltpots #slipcarvedpottery #clayinlay #australianpottery #malcolmboyd #madeingippsland #madeinthebush #creativegippsland #townandcountrygallery #yarragon

15.01.2022 I enjoy the slow evolution of form. Shapes that are full and organic, rather than too precise and tooled. The ultimate aim is to produce a beautiful piece, a pot well balanced in terms of form, colour and texture, but also expressing something of me. The journey of creating my works often incurs frustration & despair, but more often, incredible joy. Malcolm Boyd . . .... Its been quite a manic May... so many deliveries of gorgeous new works and so many lovely visitors to the gallery. Still catching my breath and now look forward to sharing some of our fabulous new pieces with you . . . Malcolm Boyd is a highly regarded potter from East Gippsland; his works are handbuilt, often incorporating clays from his rural proerty. 14.01.2022 I'm no photographer and this certainly isn't the best photo of the beautiful ceramic works I selected at Minna Graham's studio today, but this image captures the serene, almost ethereal feeling of Minna's gallery attic above her working studio, tucked away on a secluded property near Daylesford, Victoria. With the early afternoon sun streaming through skylights and the gentle melody of pobblebonk frogs calling from the dam... the moment was a touching affirmation as to why ...I clock up the miles to visit our artists in their studio environments. Sure, technology is a convenient way to fast-track making purchases and order stock, but I certainly don't consider the handmade artisan pieces I source for our gallery as 'stock'. Taking time to soak up the atmosphere of an artist's studio and chat intimately with them about their work, their aspirations, challenges, influences and the colourful highs and lows of life; hearing about the glazes that didn't work out as hoped, the firings that failed and to feel the artist's joy when you notice a particular new technique or form; connects you with their work on a much deeper level. It is this deep appreciation that I often wonder how I can pass on to our gallery visitors. So, I encourage you, on your next visit to a gallery or artists' studio, to take a little longer while you're browsing and actually pick up a piece that catches your eye; hold the piece in your hand and take a quiet moment for a closer look. You may well 'feel' a connection to the maker by the tactile nature of the work, or visually a finer appreciation of the skilful craftsmanship. You will find each piece intriguingly unique and individual. Tomorrow will be a busy day unpacking our hand-picked selection from Minna Graham and I'm excited to add, I also had the pleasure of visiting lovely Marina Pribaz at her studio, where I was thrilled to pick-up a new selection of her exquisite mugs and beakers for all our collectors!! Final stop for my day was at the Overwrought studio; the wagon was loaded to the brim with sculptures and I headed off back to Gippsland with a smile and grateful heart. #artistsstudio #minnagrahamceramics #specialplace

14.01.2022 The light at the end of the road 92x122cm, oil on canvas by Annette Smeeton. Such an emotive title, which I think most of us can relate to as we look forward to the light at the end of this bumpy journey were on!! Capturing a feeling, the essence of a place or landscape, is one of strongest elements connecting a viewer with an artwork. Over these past weeks many of us have not been able to enjoy visiting the places that energise us, or soothe our soul. However, we can ...still access those feelings of escape by listening to music, meditating or resting our eyes on beautiful images that encourage our thoughts to wander. Annette Smeeton contentedly paints from her home studio near Colac, Victoria. Stocked up with art materials and inspired by memories and photographs of the places she loves to escape to, Annette has completed a series of works ready to deliver to Town & Country. For now we have the pleasure of viewing images of the paintings; we can still appreciate the gentle mood Annettes works evoke and imagine ourselves immersed in her peaceful landscapes Thats the true, wonderful mystery of art - the way an artist can stir memories and feelings of another time and place; transporting us to an experience of our own interpretation. 13.01.2022 A colourful flock of James Dodson glass figurines have just flown in from Tassie. Skilfully crafted using traditional artisan glassblowing techniques, each of James' birds are formed with glass made from sands mined on Tasmania's West Coast. These sands are some of the world's finest silica flour which transform into molten glass when heated in a furnace. Each figurine is blown and sculpted by a combination of breath and shaping tools; the beautiful details on each bird re...flecting James' skill and sensitivity. Tasmanian born, James' fascination with glass was ignited when he visited a gallery in London in the late 1970's; he was working as an architectural draftsman at the time, but was seduced by the medium of art glass and went on to study at the Orrefors Glass school in Sweden for two years. He then worked at a glass studio in Greenwich London before returning to Australian to further his skills at the renowned Jam Factory, Adelaide. On returning to Tasmania in the early 1980's, James established his own glass studio in a shed at historic Clarendon House. In 1989 he expanded and moved his operation to Breadalbane, where he continued to create his magnificent hot glass works up until his retirement this year. Many of our customers have collected their favourite native glass birds and frogs over the years; James' figurines are now limited in numbers. Currently we have a large collection at the galley, but as James will no longer be making more, understandably now is the time to add to your collection. We have another delivery of birds on the way in the coming week; for now you'll find our current available selection on our website: http://townandcountrygallery.com.au/james-dodson Please contact us with any queries; yes we offer Lay-By and always happy to arrange freight 0448 034 757 . . . #jamesdodson #tasmanianglassartist #glassfigurines #glassbirds #glassblower #madeintasmania #australianglassblower #australianmade #townandcountrygallery #australiannativebirds

10.01.2022 We're surrounded by an exciting cohort of creative businesses and individuals here in beautiful Gippsland. Over the past weeks, John and I have had the pleasure of engaging and working with Kate and the team @themudroom.design and Lauren @laurenmurphyphotography on a new website for Town & Country Gallery (now in the final stages of design) A grant from the Latrobe Valley Authority (funded by Victorian State Government) and a good look over the Gippsland Business Connect**... website helped kick-start our project, which we're now excitedly looking forward to launching in the coming month. Both Kate and Lauren are passionate about what they do; their fresh ideas are inspiring and make what could be a very daunting process, a most enjoyable one. Both young mums working odd hours and multi-tasking between commitments; they bring clients’ dreams to fruition with enthusiasm and absolute professionalism The photo featured is one of a fabulous gallery of images from our photo-shoot with Lauren. Despite having to work with two very awkward human subjects and a background of multi-layered colours and textures; Lauren has captured the essence of the gallery in its best light, along with John and I in a most personable way. We'll keep you updated on the website and look forward to posting Lauren's gorgeous photos onto our news feed every now and then . . . **Share your expertise, your goods, your services and how you can partner with like-minded professionals on a digital stage with the Gippsland Business Connect site: https://gippsland.businessconnect.io/ . . . #newwebsitecomingsoon #gippslandcreatives #growgippsland #inspiredbygippsland #gippslandbusinessconnect #latrobevalleyauthority #townandcountrygallery #yarragon #visitbawbaw #destinationgippsland

10.01.2022 There's always a lot of excitement when we hang a new body of work just loving the striking sophistication of Julie Lundgren Coulter's earth pigment landscapes. 04.01.2022 THANK YOU!! on a day when we thought it would only be the chill of winter coming through the doors; with Melbourne in lockdown and much of the Gippsland region reeling from the wave of wild storms... it was so heartening to see locals out and about supporting our town #yarragon It's fair to say Victoria has been battered from pillar to post these past twelve months and we don't take the opportunity to open the gallery doors lightly. Many of our artists and loyal customers a...re still in lockdown and small business operators across the state are struggling through loss of trade. But it takes more than fires, a pandemic, floods and storms to dull community spirit and when things get tough, we're reminded how even the smallest acts of kindness can create the most wonderful waves of positivity and gratitude. So each time masked visitors walked through our doors today, with the icy breeze behind them, we said thanks; in fact every day, we say thanks. We absolutely love what we do; connecting people with the most beautiful, unique works of our awesome artists and makers. We never know just who will walk in the door and what they'll be looking for... each time they visit, the gallery will look a little different; we're passionate about curating an ever-changing exhibition; always something new and exciting to showcase As the afternoon grew dark there was not a soul on the street to be seen and just as we thought business might be over for the day, in walks an enthusiastic customer gesturing toward a painting they'd been eyeing off for a while.
