21.01.2022 Victorias Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp is urging residents and visitors to East Gippsland to leave now as fire danger increases. If youre p...lanning on visiting East Gippsland today or Monday, dont do it. If youre already visiting East Gippsland, you need to leave the area today. It is not possible to provide support and aid to all the visitors currently in the East Gippsland region, and if the Princes Highway is impacted, you may not be able to leave for sometime. If you live in East Gippsland, you need to move to safer locations." : Nathan Aston, Bruthen

11.01.2022 INCIDENT - Princes Highway, East Gippsland closed UPDATE 7am Tuesday The Princes Highway remains closed between Bairnsdale and Genoa, due to the significant fir...e activity in East Gippsland. Other major road closures include the Monaro Highway, Great Alpine Road, Bruthen-Nowa Nowa Road and Bonang Road. If you need to travel between Melbourne and New South Wales, we suggest using the Hume Freeway instead. Please check emergency.vic.gov.au and install the Vic Emergency app for local updates. Current road closures can be found at traffic.vic.gov.au or on the VicTraffic app. Drive safely. #victraffic -------------------------------- UPDATE 4.45pm Monday The Princes Highway is now closed between Bairnsdale and Genoa. Closures are in place at Great Alpine Road, Bairnsdale and near Mallacoota-Genoa Road in Genoa. Access to the Princes Highway towards Eden, NSW from Mallacoota and Genoa is also now closed. If youre within the fire-affected areas, you may be unable to leave, and should take shelter. See below for our safety advice for travel in areas affected by bushfires. Stay safe. #victraffic -------------------- The Princes Highway is again closed in both directions between Cann River and Genoa in East Gippsland, due to increased fire activity. Conditions can change quickly, so its important to follow the directions of emergency services at all times. Significant fire activity in East Gippsland means there is potential for further road closures in the area today. Residents and visitors in East Gippsland have been advised to leave, and all travel to the region should be cancelled, as further road closures may prevent the return trip home. Carry plenty of drinking water and pack woollen blankets in the car. Driving during a bushfire is extremely dangerous and leaving early is the best way to avoid this situation. If you encounter smoke or flames, turn around and head to safety. If youre driving through smoke, turn on your lights to make sure youre seen by other vehicles. This closure is under the control of emergency services and the road will re-open when its safe to do so. #victraffic

11.01.2022 For all your dinner needs. The Old Grain Store is open for business

09.01.2022 Another Fav of mine.

08.01.2022 Its well documented the damage that was caused to the Cape Conran area by the fires earlier this year and we have been pushing for a bigger and better rebuild ...to make the tourism experience better in this part of the world, with improvements in line with the character and environment. So its good news a shared bicycle / pedestrian pathway from Marlo to Cape Conran will be built and I have no doubt it will be a popular tourist attraction for the region. There will also be a potable water connection to the camp park. The focus is now on replacing and improving the accommodation that was destroyed. A number of the cabins in Conran were burnt and they need to be replaced with upgraded facilities as a matter of urgency, while those remaining cabins that were spared fire impact, should also be renovated as well. I am advised that the partial opening of the camp ground area is planned for the September school holidays, but by now it should all be ready to be opened - its been eight months and the problem trees should have been removed by now and other campground infrustructure fixed. When restrictions lifted we should have been ready, but we arent. Ill be heading to parliament later this week to keep up the push to get out public camp grounds open so they can be enjoyed by others from regional areas. (File pic pre face covering restriction)

07.01.2022 Just now Dolphins in the Mitchell River

07.01.2022 Hi all, The good news is Step Three commences after midnight Wednesday this week. This information is for rural and regional areas only, not those in the metrop...olitan area. If you are having trouble accessing detail within the next 48 hours, please DO NOT put it in a comment below email the office on [email protected] if you are unable to find out yourself. The dot points below are what we do know and while I know there will be many more questions on specifics (much remains unknown until tomorrow), please keep an eye on the following websites for further details: Details around business openings: https://www.business.vic.gov.au/ More general restrictions (travel, camping regulations, community sport etc: https://www.vic.gov.au/third-step-coronavirus-road-to-recov While restrictions are being eased in country areas, enforcement on travelling will be increased. More vehicles will be checked and this will sometimes result in significant queues and delays for those travelling to and from Melbourne for medical, work, child custody or other reasons. Please take note of this and allow travel time. It is also anticipated fines will be increased for those who are in country areas or attempting to travel to country areas without a valid reason. Please take particular note of the second dot point below, as there is confusion in the community around this. Step Three from midnight Wednesday, this is what we know: * There will be no restrictions on leaving home. * Visitors allowed at private homes from one other household for the duration of Step Three (of up to 5 visiting people, known as your social bubble). You cannot have people from more than one different household visit your home for the period of Step Three. Once you nominate the visiting household and they visit, that cannot change and you are each others social bubble household, its reciprocal. For example, you cannot have people from one household visit and then another household three weeks later or one household visit your home and then you visit another household, you are each others social bubble as soon as that first visit takes place. So no gatherings in the home from different families, no sleepovers from different families, or different kids visiting their friends homes from week to week. . If you have a person or family coming to stay from another area for a weekend (eg a mate from Ballarat), they are your social bubble. They cannot stay and then you have another local household over in Step Three, nor can you visit another local household at any time in Step Three. You cannot have a household choose you and you choose a different household. * Accommodation / travel. Accommodation will be open to visitors from other areas in Step Three (no Melbourne tourists), with caps per the social bubble. More detail is to be provided on camping by the Government tomorrow. * Hospitality will open. Pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants can have 10 people per indoor space (floor space permitting, one person per four square metres) with tables spaced and no more than 20 inside a premises (maximum two indoor spaces). What determines a suitable divide between spaces will be explained tomorrow so keep an eye on the website above. Outdoor dining can be up to 50 (space permitting, tables 1.5m apart). An establishment that can cater for all the above with the appropriate gathering and density limits can have 70 patrons at a time. A two hour limit exists for those sitting down for table service and businesses must have a COVID safe plan. * Public gatherings of up to 10 people outdoors will be allowed. (They can be from different families, social distancing rules apply) * All retail open, including hairdressing, beauty services and tattooists, with a face covering can be worn for the duration of service (this is a recent change). * Outdoor contact and non-contact sport for people aged 18 and younger. * Outdoor non-contact sport only for adults, with gathering and density limits. (While we await clarity on what sports fall under non-contact it is anticipated the likes of cricket, tennis, golf and bowls will be included with possibly some number restrictions for certain sports please watch the website above). * Outdoor skateparks open, outdoor fitness for groups of 10 people. (Detail is be forthcoming on gyms and indoor activity classes). * Weddings - allowed with up to 10 people (including the couple, two witnesses and celebrant). * Funerals - allowed with up to 20 people (infants under 12 months of age or people required to conduct the funeral not included in the limit). * Religion - outdoor religious gatherings for up to 10 people plus a faith leader, places of worship open for private worship for households or social bubbles, plus a faith leader. * Face coverings remain for the duration of Step Three. * Just to be clear, those living in Melbourne cannot come to this area on holidays and should not be booked into accommodation houses, nor should they be attending holiday homes unless for urgent maintenance that cannot wait. People not observing this should be reported to police. Lets make sure we stick to the rules and take the opportunity presented to us and get out and support our local businesses within the rules set down so they may survive.
