23.01.2022 Funding to support Veterans Health Week (VHW) activities is available through DVA. VHW is Saturday 24 Oct to 1 November this year, and the theme is Social Connection. Ex-Service Organisations (ESO) are encouraged to apply for funding to support related activities. The process has been simplified this year and ESO can make several applications for their activities, one for each day or separate activity. Local ESO might even apply for funding to enhance their support to Townsville RSL activities such as the Drop-in Centre/Mini-Expo on 24 Oct or the Walk n Talk on 25 Oct (see our events page for more info). 12.01.2022 Do you have your membership card? Not sure about the status of your renewal because of COVID? Ask at the front counter to ensure you can get the benefits of discounted food and beverage, and accumulate reward points! Maybe you lost yours? There is a number of membership cards accumulating in the office, maybe there was a problem with the address on your application. To help us mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on membership renewals, the RSL Queensland Board approved a morator...ium on renewals. This means members who did not renew their membership by the due date (1 January 2020) but who do renew in this year, will not lose continued membership privileges and will not have to go through a re-joining process. To further support the work of Sub Branches, RSL Queensland are activating a retention campaign to encourage inactive members to renew their membership. Commencing on Friday 31st July RSL Queensland Branch will call all 2019 non-renewed members to invite them to take advantage of the renewal moratorium. At the same time, we will take the opportunity to update members contact details in the system. See more

09.01.2022 A memorial to military veterans lost to suicide has been unveiled in Townsville the first of its kind in Australia. Its inscribed Cor Infinitus which means... endless courage. Placed in Anzac Memorial Park alongside other military memorials, its designed to be a place for loved ones to remember those whove lost the battle within. What I felt was missing around mental illness and suicide was dignity and respect, says Kevin Humphreys, a former Army helicopter pilot who experienced his own mental health battle and came up with the idea for the plaque. People are starting to realise theres no shame in what theyve done, says Glenda Weston, whose son Bradley Carr suicided on Anzac Day 2019, several years after being medically discharged from the Army.
