24.01.2022 Our Townsville Physiotherapists can assist with your shoulder problems/pain. Do you ever have the sensation that your shoulder is going to "pop out" during certain activities or experience painful, recurrent shoulder dislocations? If the answer is yes, it is likely that you have shoulder instability. The shoulder has ligaments, tendons, muscles and bony structures which help to keep the upper arm bone in the shoulder socket. Shoulder instability, occurs if there is a fault wi...th any one of these structures. Physiotherapy treatment and a thorough, strengthening home exercise program can assist with this condition. Surgery may be indicated in some cases where conservative physiotherapy treatment cannot repair damaged structures. Please give us a call on (07) 4724 4444 for a full physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis and management plan.

20.01.2022 Our Townsville Physiotherapists provide Pre Hab. Strength, conditioning and range-of-motion, prior to surgery is what we call Prehabilitation, or pre-hab. We see many people before they have surgery and can help by building strength, balance, ROM, and function so that their outcomes are enhanced following surgery. Our Physiotherapists give people advice about what outcomes to expect, how to manage daily activities and what rehabilitation will be involved following surgery. People who participate in what we call prehabilitation are stronger and regain their function faster than those who don't. Please give us a call if you would like to be in your best physical shape prior to surgery.

08.01.2022 Are you suffering from pins and needles in the arms, hands and fingers and don't know why? If the answer is yes, your physiotherapist at Townsville Sports Injury and Physiotherapy Clinic can help. There are various reasons why you may be experiencing pins and needles. The nerves which provide sensation to your arms and hands originate from small openings in the vertebrae of your neck. If these openings are smaller than usual, either from abnormal bone growth, poor posture or ...a disc protrusion, the nerve becomes compressed and irritated. This is why you may experience pins and needles and pain. Another reason for your pins and needles may be carpal tunnel syndrome. You may experience carpal tunnel syndrome if you do repetitive hand actions, have arthritis or are pregnant. In this condition, the nerve which runs from your neck and down into your hands has pressure applied to it due to narrowing between your wrist bones or swelling of the tendons which run into your hands. For further information on how we can help you with hands on treatment and a home exercise program, please don't hesitate to give us a call on (07) 4724 4444.

08.01.2022 If you feel lots of crunching in your knees or experience pain in the patella (knee cap) while using the stairs, squatting, kneeling or after sitting for a long time, you may have patello-femoral pain syndrome (PFPS). PFPS (also known as runner's knee), occurs due to incorrect movement of the patella in its bony groove. Tightness in the muscles surrounding the knee normally contribute to this incorrect movement. This condition can be easily treated with some hands on physiotherapy treatment and home exercises involving strengthening and stretching. If you think you have PFPS, please give us a call on (07) 4724 4444 for more information.
