25.01.2022 This actually happened to me today!!! I received a call from a mobile at 3.30pm today advising if I did not press 1, that the ATO would be sending the police to pick me up. Many other firms have reported an increase in similar calls.... Scams are on the rise, if you receive a call, email or text remember: 1) NEVER release any information; 2) Ask for a reference number; 3) Ask for a return number; 4) NEVER give your tax file number; 3) Contact your accountant to follow up.

We advise all our rental property clients - if in doubt, include all your receipts and we will decipher what is claimable in your return.... Or simply contact our office to give you access to our "upload your receipts function", so that all your receipts are linked to your tax file (for 7 years).

17.01.2022 WORKING FROM HOME CLAIMS FOR 1 MARCH Till 30 JUNE 2020: Many people are now working from home due to COVID-19. If this is you - make sure to keep a log of your "home office hours", in your diary for 2020 tax time!... There are three ways that you can calculate your additional running expenses during this period: i) claim 80 cents for all additional running expenses ii) claim 52 cents per hour for electricity, cleaning, stationery, decline in value of equipment; or iii) claim actual work related of all running expenses.

After a little chatter, discussed her role and circumstances in great depth.... discovered some more available deductions.... Morale of this story is... we take time to understand our clients needs, to get the best result possible for them. We then provide advice to clients to improve their tax positions, as sometimes clients have a reactive tax return ...instead of a proactive one. Be in control of your tax position! 08.01.2022 Thank God for my RECEIPT BANK APP! This morning I was cleaning up my home office...shredding away... then there was a little smoke...then my shredder died I simply unplugged it. Opened my RECEIPT BANK APP to find the receipt (1 minute find) went to Officeworks who simply replaced my 9 month old shredder. ... I don't know how I ever functioned without this APP! We offer this APP free of charge to our clients to assist with their records. But if you use Xero, Intuit or MYOB, we can link this APP for you for a monthly investment of $37.50 unlimited usage. Our clients just RAVE about this APP all the time!

03.01.2022 The past 6 months within the accounting industry has been one of the most difficult emotionally and physically. With constant changes in tax legislation, jobkeeper, cash flow bonuses, additional monthly reporting requirements by the ATO and Super amnesty - all in addition to our normal compliance BAS and tax work.
