22.01.2022 Safety is always front of mind for our team and Airport Safety Week gives us an opportunity to further highlight the important matter to our partners here at the airport. An initiative of the Australian Airports Association, Airport Safety Week is designed to engage everyone working on an aerodrome through a series of events and activities. The FOD (or Foreign Object Debris) walk is a favourite for our team an opportunity to walk the taxiways collecting any FOD along the way. While there wasn't too much to report this week, over the years our team has picked up torches, hand held radios and sunglasses - all seemingly harmless objects that can pose a threat to aircraft. Thanks to the Department of Defence, Australian Border Force, Swissport, ISS Security and our cleaning team for joining us this week.

15.01.2022 Planespotters are revelling in the opportunity to catch a glimpse of these rare beauties gracing the skies around Townsville Airport this week. Two C-27J Spartan aircraft have been deployed from RAAF Base Amberley as part of a Defence training exercise. Commonly used in humanitarian and disaster relief operations, the Spartans helped in the evacuation of communities during last summer's bushfire disaster. You might want to turn your eyes from the skies to the road tomorrow - two vintage aircraft are due to arrive at the RAAF Base Townsville (Duckworth Street entry) at about 2pm.
