21.01.2022 Now here is something different! Extremely delicate, creative and fine jewelry by this weeks talented and patient beading artist, Paula Clancy.. As a counterpoint to my career as a Research Scientist I have always participated in creative activities. Since retiring from science, I have found my true artistic outlet in beading. Several years ago, I joined the Townsville Art Society, which has enabled me to grow as an artist amongst a supporting community of fellow ‘creators’. ... I have been beading for over 15 years, now, and have found my true passion in the Peyote style of beading (made famous by the native American Indians). I most enjoy creating unique ‘one of’ designs to match to somebody’s favourite outfit. The pieces displayed at the ‘Art at Jezzine’ and the Townsville Art Society’s pop up shop in Castletown are all my own designs, colours and patterns. It takes a considerable amount of time and patience to finish each piece, but the end result is worth it. I am grateful to the Townsville Art Society for the opportunity to display my works in their galleries amongst such a fine community collection. See more

18.01.2022 Here is the man behind all the fabulous woodwork in our galleries....introducing Peter Foxwell Peter’s Story: I have been woodturning now for over 35 years. I have always had a keen interest in working with wood and after moving to Townsville in the 80’s I was able to take up turning seriously. I started out doing a short TAFE course and practiced on what we would call fire wood. Now I collect wood and have worked with many different varieties. Some of the dry country wood...s are my favourites. Since retiring from my better paying job I have been able to do my turning full time and am happy downstairs making lots of sawdust and exploring new shapes and colours; but predominately I would call myself a production turner doing batches of my regular products. In some respects, turning gives instant feedback. You can see the shape changing instantly as the tool is applied to the spinning wood. Getting the shape perfect is the challenge. See more

13.01.2022 Variety might best describe this week's talented Artist in Profile, in genre, subject and style, Chantal keeps us guessing, what next...?! Chantal Kwast-Greff is a French-born Australian artist who hails from Townsville, Queensland. She now does art full-time after a fulfilling career in lecturing Arts and Literature. She uses mostly oils - the traditional medium per excellence - in a contemporary rendering of what it is to be a Human Being. Her paintings are organic and vi...sceral, and her portraits have an iconic dimension, both individual and generic, typifying the permanence and timelessness of what constitutes humanity. Her focus is on the cultural and physical aspects of the society she lives in - in both time and space - and across cultures, and topical issues such as Identity and Belonging. She has won a number of awards and prizes and is represented by local galleries in Australia, and overseas, such as LecLecTic Gallery and Carré d'Art in Nouméa, New Caledonia, and Quédar Gallery in Strasbourg, France, and some of her paintings are part of private collections in Australia, England and Scotland, Germany, Switzerland and the USA. 09.01.2022 Introducing Kym Geedrick, a dedicated member whose work always entertains and brightens up our galleries.... Hi. My name is Kym Geedrick and I have been painting for over 40 years. I started in oils but once I discovered that acrylics didn’t require a lot of drying time, I have been a convert ever since. I’m drawn mainly to animals as subject matter, mostly because of their expressions and the emotions they inspire. I love to use colour in unexpected ways and to provide a hint of quirkiness. My favorite ones tell a story where your mind can take you further than the painting itself, fill in gaps and provide a backstory. I have been a member of the art society for quite a few years now and my time at the art shop allows me to soak up the wonderful talent of our members for a few hours
