25.01.2022 We have been advocating for an easing of the capacity restrictions on businesses since they were announced on 3rd July, and this week we have joined forces with Townsville Enterprise to ask the Queensland Government for: An immediate easing of capacity restrictions to 1 person in 2 sqm (SA, Tasmania and WA have all adopted a 1 person in 2 sqm rule and maintain a low or no cases). An updated road map outlining when restrictions on standing while drinking and eating, and... also dancing, will be eased. Thanks WIN News Townsville https://www.facebook.com/watch/

21.01.2022 Thanks WIN News Townsville for highlighting this confusing time for Queensland businesses
16.01.2022 RESTRICTIONS EASED, BUT THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL! Today we were initially overjoyed when the Premier announced an easing of capacity restrictions from 1 person per 4 sqm to 1 person per 2 sqm. This means outdoor hospitality businesses can now operate at 50% of their pre COVID capacity. But of course the devil is always in the detail and this easing only applies to the outside area of a business like beer gardens, whilst indoor areas will continue to be subject to the 1 in ...4 sqm rule. The capacity of stadiums will also increase from 50% to 75% capacity. The easing of these capacity restrictions has been at the forefront of our advocacy work for months and I would like to acknowledge the support of State Member for Townsville Scott Stewart who has continued to raise this issue with the Premier and Chief Health Officer. Today's announcement is a step in the right direction, and with more people frequenting businesses, owners may consider employing more people but with JobKeeper scaling back and in the absence of a clear plan outlining when they can also operate at 75% (or more) we are unlikely to see a significant impact to employment. Businesses need a clear road map to enable them to create their own plans and budgets, they can't keep operating at 50% or less, what business can? 16.01.2022 A WONDERFUL DAY AT ROWES BAY Friday we had a wonderful day at Rowes Bay for our 33rd annual golf day, especially after the challenges we have been facing this year. Thank you to each of the teams for being part of the day, and to all of our event, hole and prize sponsors, the day could not have happened without your support. 15.01.2022 Who is going to join us on Thursday to celebrate International Coffee Day at Juliette's?
14.01.2022 BUSINESSES NEED A ROAD MAP TO RECOVERY We are pleased that restrictions on capacity are beginning to ease and that our advocacy since July has had an impact, but given the opportunity we can do more. We can help decision makers to ensure the roll out of changes is smooth for business operators and to reduce confusion, ensure clarity in direction and enable business owners to maximise the outcomes for their business without spending hours they don’t have applying for changes to their COVID safe plan. The new plan now defines indoor and outdoor areas in venues, while some sectors are still waiting for clear definitions for these areas and how it impacts them, so once again businesses are forced to implement new plans they don’t fully understand and explain them to their customers.....read more https://buff.ly/34dpiC3
12.01.2022 QUARTERLY PULSE SURVEY We know you all love a good survey, but in the current climate we need to know what is going on for businesses across our region to inform and reinforce our advocacy work and ultimately to make a difference to businesses here. We encourage you to complete the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland's pulse survey of business conditions for September. For the results to carry maximum impact, we need as many businesses as possible from Townsville to c...omplete the survey. The more responses we have the more in-depth the analysis which leads to a better understand of what is happening in our region. 04.01.2022 We are living in extraordinary times and it is clear that many businesses across the country have become reliant on the Commonwealth JobKeeper payments to subsidise their operations, but what will it mean for the future of businesses in our region and how can we all help?
