21.01.2022 THE POWER OF COHERENCE. Here is a photo of a woman with cerebral palsy (and a nervous system that is misfiring) in a wheelchair. As the horses noticed her jer...king movements, they realised her nervous system was misfiring and one by one, they laid down around her (slowing down their breathing rate, which slowed down their heart rate, which created the pulsing resonant field that caused her nervous system to entrain/synchronise with). She later reported that her jerking movements had calmed down significantly. See more

20.01.2022 Testimonial Day Townsville Equine Awareness Learning held at Ranchlands. Robyn ~ I was excited but also nervous about working with the horses.... Excited, because it was an adventure and I was open to what the horses had to teach me. Nervous, because I haven’t had much to do with horses, they are so big! Watching how the horses were so self regulated and were in the present moment and how they do better when they live in their community or herd. Not ashamed of who they are. They taught me that I am lovable. #ranchlandsequestriancentre #supportlocaltownsville #northqueensland #townsvilleequineassistedtherapy #equinetherapy #equineassistedlearning See more

20.01.2022 Townsville Equine Assisted Learning. Do you know what this Is? Do you know we run the Townsville Equine Assisted Learning courses here at Ranchlands. ... Read on There’s been a bit about EAL around the traps of late, what’s it all about? Well let us give you some info There is something very special about interacting with a horse. Horses possess empathy, insight and wisdom and are willing to give it freely and generously. Horses have the unique ability of being able to pick up on our energy levels, body language and emotional state and allow us to learn more about ourselves than we ever thought possible. Based on the Equine Psychotherapy Institute of Australia (EPI) model, our equine sessions help clients to understand and become more aware of themselves, how their body is reacting to their thoughts, and identify ways of thinking that may not serve them well anymore. Sessions are available for anyone who would like to take positive steps in their everyday life and especially helpful in helping them with a number of psychological issues. On a one to one basis or joining a group on our Personal Awareness Days. No riding is involved, also no horse experience is necessary! It’s quite a bit to take in, so watch this space for further information on Townsville Equine Assisted Learning and how it may help you, a loved one, a friend, a colleague or indeed a whole work place..... #ranchlandsequestriancentre #townsvilleridingschool #iloveponies #supportlocaltownsville #townsville #northqueensland #equineassistedtherapy #horseridinglesson #horsesandponies #townsvilleequineassistedtherapy #learntohorseride #ilovehorses #raining #wetseason #soggyponies #townsvilleequine assistedlearning See more

18.01.2022 I just found out this guy, Ink, is retiring and going to a beautiful home. It made me reflect on when I met him in 2019 after just being released from hospital ...for melanoma cancer and he didn’t leave my side for HOURS!!! I still had tubes coming out of my arm (see video) and I was alone, I was scared, and I was in desperate need of some connection. He provided me with comfort, affection and pure acceptance for as long as I was willing to receive it and I will NEVER FORGET that day!!! Horses are emotionally intelligent creatures and Ink knew I needed someone to just sit with me and let me cry it out. I will never forget that moment. And that’s why I’m so passionate about this work and hope to bring many others moments of true healing. @ Townsville, Queensland

17.01.2022 Why horses? Horses are beautiful, intelligent, sensitive and strong animals. People are often attracted to horses’ beauty and size, as a literal and symbolic re...presentation of beauty, power, expression and freedom. This can illicit or evoke strong feelings and responses and unconscious feelings and needs, then available for therapeutic attention and processing. Sometimes strong feelings like fear/panic, sadness/grief and anger/rage can become available for the first time for therapeutic processing. Calm and healthy horses can provide an emotional and sensory environment for clients that is conducive of calmness and the development of trust. Horses can offer a non-judgemental response to people and an acceptance that is different to other people, even the trained equine practitioner. Horses who are healthy seek closeness with people, triggering the client’s opening to, yearning and want for closeness, affection and connection in that safe environment. This emotional safety and trust engages the client’s brain-body responses and begins new neural pathways, felt sense and body memories for safety in relationship. Because horses can move quickly, are large and respond to their feelings and instincts, people often have a healthy respect and heightened awareness around horses, for survival and safety. This heightened awareness acts as a ’safe emergency’ for people to attend to what is actually happening, in themselves and their environment in a new way. Moving out of ‘automatic pilot’ into ‘awareness’ is the primary condition for self-awareness and change. Horses live in the present moment, in awareness and authentic contact, when living in a herd environment. These capacities are profoundly important for human health and wellness the capacity to live in the present, be aware and create and maintain healthy, honest and creative relationships. These capacities and skills can be developed in the EAP and EAL sessions via offering equine experiences and particular facilitation, and, psycho-education of ‘the way of the horse’. Horses are Prey, Play and Herd Animals. Horses are prey animals and therefore naturally have a sensitive, hyper-vigilant nature oriented around heightened awareness. They communicate predominantly non-verbally, via body expressions, energy and behaviours, and can pick up subtle changes in the horse/person/environment. Horses experience, and then respond. Due to horses being a highly perceptive species, they will react behaviourally to each client differently due to each person’s individual non-verbal communication, energy, tension, relaxation, approach, feelings, thoughts, and behaviours, as they manifest in the obvious and subtle physiological and physical responses in the person. This horse response, acts as feedback for the client and provides a rich opportunity for people to increase their self-awareness, choice and responses. People can begin to learn about developing their own body awareness, non-verbal communications, and capacity to communicate with both directness and subtlety. As Herd animals, horses are oriented towards connection and relationship, and are social animals with a particular herd structure or organisation. Because horses are oriented around connection and bonding, they can offer a unique relationship for clients to explore their experience in relationship, and explore new behaviours. Horse ‘contact’ is authentic what they experience or feel they express, and this is both great modelling for humans and an opportunity for feedback without judgement. Clients and horses can build safety, trust, relationship and intimacy that is both a corrective emotional experience and an opportunity to build relational skills and brain-body connections that may have been missing or underdeveloped. Also, horses model different forms of leadership relationships, so people can explore leading from ‘up front’, ‘shoulder to shoulder or heart to heart’ and leading ‘from behind, motivating and driving from behind’ in their parenting, work and life relationships. Horses require clear and congruent leaders, so exploring becoming the horses’ leader, can be a rich way to explore stepping into successful leadership. Horses are playful and like to explore and express their uniqueness in their environment and herd. Young horses particularly explore and express themselves with their mouths, teeth and bodies. Just as children do. This innate curiosity and playfulness means that horses often times like to engage and play with other horses and humans in EAP and EAL sessions, and offer opportunities for people to explore relationship, expression, and boundaries in a safe, engaging way. 16.01.2022 This morning 10 of our lifeline volunteers was given a gift. I believe no one left today unchanged. Jenny Haines and her beautiful team from Townsville Equine A...ssisted Learning gifted us an opportunity to experience what the amazing horses could teach us about ourselves. I was truely touched by my horse ‘Leo’, who taught me about trust and being vulnerable to allow me to trust. Somehow he must have known I needed a Leo cuddle. See more

15.01.2022 I did not know a horse could do that... Written by Alissa Kelly I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you. ... I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable. I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first. I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right. I did not know a horse could break your heart. I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen a part. I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible. I did not know a horse could make you pray. I did not know a horse could bring you closer to Jesus. I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic and dedication. I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does. I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget. I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble. I did not know a horse could make you a winner. I did not know a horse could teach you how to lose gracefully. I did not know a horse could install patience in you. I did not know a horse could make you listen better. I did not know a horse could give you their heart. I did not know a horse could change your life. I did not know a horse could do all these things, but now I know.

15.01.2022 "Listen to what your Horses are offering you, listen very carefully As they may be offering a new awareness or insight that could change the course of your life...." Meg Kirby, Founder of the EPI We would love to know what awareness or insight you have been offered through relationship with your horses.

10.01.2022 The End Of Another Era at Ranchlands The retirement of Storm, Lizzie and Ink - we have owned these special horses for 15 years. These three have not won rib...bons in outside competitions, a dressage test or jumping event, been to pony club or a mustering camps. But they have given kids in wheelchairs a chance to sit on them and be their legs, they have helped many with anxiety to feel calmness just by their presence, they have stayed beside a troubled soul for many hours in their paddock when they could have moved away at any time. As school horses they have allowed hundreds and hundreds of people of all ages to try and learn how to ride them, put up with all the wrong signals, the bouncing around on their back, to landing in the dirt, while they look on, to being part of the journey, for that person to feel good about themselves, helped them gain confidence, overcome their fears, and to express love. What service they have been to so many humans, with many relating stories of their special time on that particular horse, and what they have given them. So now time to give back to them - We have had many people scouting places, following leads to no avail and sleepless nights... Then out of the blue had a discussion with one pupils parents, with land, grass and caretaker, I initially asked about taking Storm and Ink, as thought Lizzie might not do too well in the paddock. But then when we bought Storm back from the temporary paddock, we were amazed to see the interaction between him and Lizzie, she was so happy to see him, touching, nuzzling, and never left his side, and vice versa, So what can you do..... A tentative question was asked if they could take her as well, so to the generosity of Geoff and Tasha, all three are retiring to the same paddock together So off they go today, the three mates, to spend their retirement days happily munching away in a nice big paddock, many memories and actually some tears as I type this. A job well done. Thank You Storm, Lizzie and Ink x #ranchlandsequestriancentre #thankyouhorses #supportlocaltownsvillle #townsville #horseretirement #thankyouponies #equineawarenesstownsville
