25.01.2022 The easing of restrictions around unseated drinking and eating (FROM 4PM TODAY) is something that collectively Townsville Enterprise, Townsville Chamber of Commerce and our hospitality and business community have been strongly advocating for, and we acknowledge the Premier and Chief Health Officer who heeded these calls to listen. We do however understand that this new roadmap will mean that many of our businesses will still be not be operating as freely as possible. We will... continue our advocacy, particularly in regard to the 1 person per 2 sqm rule expanding to indoor areas, for regions like ours which have not experienced a case of community transmission. 19.01.2022 We know that the mental and financial strain on our tourism and hospitality businesses under the current COVID restrictions is real. Earlier this week Townsville Enterprise and Townsville Chamber of Commerce have jointly written to the State Government requesting: - an immediate easing of restrictions so that businesses can adopt 1 person per 2 sqm (regardless of size);... - an updated road map to understand when restrictions such as allowing standing while drinking and eating, and also dancing, will be allowed. South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and Northern Territory governments have all adopted the 1 person per 2 sqm rule and have eased restrictions in a similar way. These States are still maintaining no or low new case numbers, providing a good model that Queensland can follow. 14.01.2022 2021/22 STATE BUDGET Yesterday's #qldbudget2021 included initial down-payments for six of the ten outstanding election promises included in our #unlockthenorth platform. We've been strongly advocating for those projects in lead up to the last election and for the State Government to signal progress on those commitments as part of this Budget. This includes funding towards the Advanced Manufacturing Hub, upgrades to Townsville Hospital and Kirwan Health Campus, Magnetic Island... Walking Trails, Townsville Sailing Club, and supporting Glencore's operations. We acknowledge the Government for ensuring these commitments have turned from promise to some cash progress and we look forward to seeing boots on the ground as soon as possible. For us, the work is only just beginning, and we have a firm focus on leveraging the full extent of the Premier's $1.5 billion Renewables and Hydrogen Jobs Fund. Regional Queensland is earmarked to play a major role in the government's hydrogen plan and we know #Townsville has the capacity to deliver on that. 11.01.2022 **STATE ELECTION | NEXT STEPS FOR NORTH QUEENSLAND** On Saturday we saw the return of a majority Palaszczuk Labor Government and we congratulate the Premier on her third term. Locals and Queenslanders have supported Chris and his staff since reopening, but Chris is having to turn customers away due to the current density restrictions. We must abide by the best health advice at the time, and with South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and Northern Territory governments all easing restrictions and still maintaining low or no cases, there is a model that Queensland can follow.
