So pack a picnic and make a day out of this outdoor gallery this weekend.

18.01.2022 Why do babies rarely blink? Adults blink about 15 times/minute while a baby blinks approximately 2 times/minute. The rate of blinking will gradually increase to adult levels by age 14. Truthfully, no one knows for sure but there are some suggestions that it may be because of one or more of the following reasons:... 1. The main purpose of spontaneous blinking is thought to be to keep the eye lubricated. Since babies have smaller eyes, less lubrication is needed. (Interesting fact: a babys eye is 75% of their adult size) 2. But theres more to it than that. We blink more when excited or upset and its postulated that it might be a way of relieving tension. But when it comes to babies, its possible they blink less because they have to work hard with their brand-new vision to get all the information they need about their awesome new world. 3. Reduced blinking may be just a natural part of brain development. See more

17.01.2022 When you write a test or exam, you're expected to get feedback in the form of a score which then indicates whether you passed or failed. What if I tell you then that as humans, the first test we write is usually "written'' at the first minute of life? You've probably seen this where the midwife or the Obstetrician gently taps the newborn on the butt or rubs the back if he/she refuses to cry.... That's the first "test''! Yes, you heard right, and the score gotten is known as the APGAR score. So, what's the APGAR score about? The Apgar score is a scoring system doctors and nurses use to assess newborns one minute and five minutes after they’re born. It was coined by Dr. Victoria Apgar in 1952 who used her last name as a mnemonic for 5 categories that are usually assessed. The assessment is used to quickly relay the status of the newborn's overall condition, as low Apgar scores may indicate the baby needs special care, such as extra help with their breathing. What are the categories of the APGAR score? The Apgar scoring system is divided into five categories. Each category receives a score of 0 to 2 points. At most, a child will receive an overall score of 10. However, a baby rarely scores a 10 in the first few moments of life. 10.01.2022 How to be a better parent? There is a Chinese proverb, it goes: Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in another time. The human mind treats a new idea the way the body treats a strange protein; it rejects it. Just because you do not understand something, it doesnt mean it is useless and pointless.

09.01.2022 Baby Weight Gain Many parents are curious about how much weight their baby is gaining and whether theyre on the right track. The average birth weight of a newborn is 7 pounds 5 ounces. Though the range of birth weight for a full-term baby is 5 pounds 11 ounces to 10 pounds. Some babies will fall out of this range, on both sides. ... Almost all babies will lose weight initially. A weight loss of 5-7% is common, though up to 10% is usually considered okay. Babies grow a lot during the first 5 months. Their growth starts to slow down around 6 months. Breastfed babies tend to follow a slightly different growth pattern than babies that are fed formula. By 4-6 months of age most babies will double their birth weight. Many babies will triple their birth weight sometime between 12 & 15 months of age. Its important to remember that each baby is an individual. They will grow and develop at their own rate. Whats important is that your baby is following their growth curve, whether theyre in the 10% or 80% or any other %. How much did your baby weigh at birth? When did they double or triple their birth weight? Did you find this helpful? LIKE, SAVE, SHARE, & TAG so other mums can see it too! See more

03.01.2022 Singing to your child and reading nursery rhymes is an effective way to support early language development. Children can often find it easier to pay attention to music and songs, so it is a great way to support their listening skills as well as develop their vocabulary. Songs also involve lots of repetition of words and phrases which helps children build a memory for different sounds.... Nursery rhymes are also great because children get to know the familiar tunes that are often accompanied by hand gestures. But you dont just have to stick to recognised songs. You can also sing any words or little sentences that you say to your child by using any familiar tune during your daily routines to get the same benefits. For example, you can sing, wash, wash, wash your face to the tune of row, row, row your boat at bath time. Dont ever worry about how well you can sing, your child wont mind, theyll just love hearing the rise and fall of your voice!

02.01.2022 Did you know that when you read to your little one the same book over and over, there are actual solid benefits? I’m not just saying this to make it more tolerable for you - apparently, studies have shown that you’re setting your kids up for academic success. Here are a few benefits of reading the same book for the 300th time. It basically boils down to ‘practice makes perfect’: It builds vocabulary... It helps children discover the language is more than just words. Children learn how words sound and connect to each other Hearing the same story repeatedly helps a child understand all the components of the story Kids start to comprehend the story line Kids start to recognise words and letter Kids learn how words connect to form phrases and sentences ?
