25.01.2022 "We got to a roundabout and the car of the left had a big kangaroo tail hanging out the front bumper bar." Ben Cheyne couldn't believe his eyes when he spot...ted a kangaroo - alive - wedged in the front grille of a car in Townsville on the weekend. "I was pretty shocked and amazed so I had another look and had these little eyes blinking at me," he said. "[I] jumped out of the car and yelled at the guy, 'You’ve got a kangaroo in the front of your car!’ "He got out of the car and he said, 'Mate don’t worry about it, we hit it last night, it's dead', and I was like, 'Nah mate it's alive!'" Mr Cheyne helped remove the animal and released it back into nearby bush land where it happily hopped away : Ben Cheyne | via ABC North Queensland

24.01.2022 Quite possibly one of the most extreme road closure maps the state of Queensland has ever seen, with approximately two thirds of the state in lock down as the r...ain continues to fall in some areas. This represents an affected area approximately twice the size of the UK. Thanks to Matt Anscomb for that comparison! As always, if you need to travel please check https://qldtraffic.qld.gov.au/ for the latest road closure information.

16.01.2022 "Not over yet": Authorities are warning Queenslanders to brace for more intense rainfall, dangerous flooding and destructive winds. BOM: "The monsoon trough ma...y remain slow moving or drift shift slowly south over the next day or two. It will remain active this week, with further heavy and intense rainfall expected for already saturated catchments." Up to 20,000 homes have been evacuated in Townsville, and hundreds of people rescued overnight. Residents are being urged to conserve water after pipes burst and put pressure on the Douglas Treatment Plant. The Ross River Dam flooding is peaking now, with floodwaters predicted to remain at those levels until at least midnight. 10.01.2022 Ross Dam at an incredible 41.85M (over 200%), Stand-Up 3 Alert Level not far off. It is likely that water releases will be accelerated even further so people do...wnstream need to be super vigilant and listen carefully to Emergency Services as this event continues to evolve. Note how the Dam level has continued to rise exponentially despite outflows being increased, this is obviously of great concern that authorities will be monitoring carefully with some very difficult decisions being made

05.01.2022 Townsville is not off the hook, are you ready? The latest track map has just been released. For all the latest information - http://townsvilleqld.net.au/cyclone-debbie/ #CycloneDebbie... #GetReady #TownsvilleQldCommunity See more

03.01.2022 Tropical Cyclone Debbie is currently at Category 2 status, expected to reach a Category 3 today with a well defined eye. Please DO NOT become complacent! This system is expected to reach a CATEGORY 4 (severe tropical cyclone). Significant roofing loss and structural damage is likely. Many caravans will be destroyed and blown away. Dangerous airborne debris creates hazards. Widespread power failures.... A Category 4 cyclone's strongest winds are VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds with typical gusts over open flat land of 225 - 279 km/h. PLEASE NOTE, because you are currently in the 'Watch' zone does NOT mean you are in the clear! Due to the way the cyclones winds spin, you're in the 'Watch' zone because you're in the area that the winds are being dragged off the coast. The areas in the 'Warning' zone are having the winds pushed into to coastline. THIS WILL CHANGE AS THE SYSTEM COMES CLOSER TO THE COAST. Please finalise your preparations today!
