25.01.2022 Mens Premier League Wrap up Proudly Supported by Elders Insurance Brothers TSV Football Club travelled to Melrose Park in the last match for Round 12 on Sunday ...night to take on Townsville Warriors Football Club in a match up of 2nd vs 3rd. With only 2 points separating 4th from 2nd and 2 matches remaining after this round, the stakes were high with both sides desperate for the win. Brothers were missing recent signing Mike Eisenhut who had been causing havoc in the few games he has played, which was a boost for the home sides hopes. The game started steadily, with both sides measuring each other and reluctant to show their hand. Before either side could gain any sort of ascendancy, a lighting issue caused a long delay which threatened to end the game before it began. The match officials were moving to declare the game a no result when the lights came back on and the game restarted. Brothers came out faster after the restart and the Warriors defense found themselves under pressure. A dangerous ball in behind found Brothers Francis Witt in on goal, beating the keeper and putting his side ahead after 7 minutes. Brothers continued to apply the pressure, controlling the ball and supplying balls to their attacking players, forcing the Warriors defense to work hard. On the half hour, prolific goal scorer Liam Phelps found himself with the ball at his feet on the edge of the box and his shot beat the Warriors keeper who appeared to think it was going wide, putting the visitors ahead 2 nil. Warriors looked to absorb the pressure and counter attack through Adam Sheen who was creating chances of his own at the other end. An attacking move saw the Brothers defense scramble the ball clear into a wide area, only for Warriors Ethan Ramsbotham to play a long looping cross into the back post which beat everyone and find the net to pull a goal back for the home side, taking the sides to the sheds with Brothers leading 2-1. The controversial start to the game was matched in the second half, when the Warriors goalkeeper was sensationally sent to the sin bin in the opening few minutes. Confusion reigned while the decision was debated and finally Warriors substituted a player to bring on substitute keeper Joey Symons. Symons was well credentialed to stand in, as a recently retired ex NPL keeper and kept the goals intact until the sin bin period was over. Rather than use another substitute, Symons then swapped the gloves for the centre back role which Brothers would have looked to try and exploit. Warriors started to gain some momentum, with regular attacking raids testing the Brothers defense. A pin point ball from Ethan Ramsbotham saw the Brothers keeper in two minds, allowing Adam Sheen to swoop in and get a touch past the stranded keeper, squaring things up at 2 all with a half hour to play. The pressure mounted on both sides, with emotions riding high and end to end football with both sides showing desperation in defense. Young Warriors midfielder Ethan Ramsbotham was having a night out and went close after picking up scraps from a deflected shot. Both sides pressed hard for the winner and with 10 minutes to go only a desperate chase and perfectly timed tackle from Warriors captain coach Justin Rawlins denied Brothers from going ahead. Tensions were at a fever pitch in the last few minutes, with both sides leaving nothing in the tank. With the clock in injury time, Warriors Adam Sheen timed his run to perfection and got onto a pin point ball in behind, attacking the near post. Deciding against shooting, he slid the ball across the face of goals trying to find replacement veteran striker Mark Millgate. The ball went behind Millgate, who had to turn out to reach it, before playing the ball back across goals only for it to strike a Brothers defender and deflect into the net, gifting the home side the win and the precious 3 points. 06.01.2022 Men's Premier League - Game of the Week Sponsored by Elders Insurance Townsville Warriors Football Club host Brothers TSV Football Club at Melrose Park on Sunda...y night. In a big shake up from the results last round, Brothers and Warriors have both jumped MA Olympic for a clash between 2nd and 3rd respectively. With only 5 points separating the top 4 sides, and 9 points still up for grabs the battle for the 3 points will be red hot. While typically most sides experience squad depth issues as the season rolls on, Brothers have benefited from adding quality players to their roster mid season, and the latest addition of Mike Eisenhut returning from retirement has been a massive boost for their Premiership aspirations. Warriors have been flying under the radar this year, after losing a significant number of their squad that has experienced success over the last few years, however some injection of youth has seen them slowly building their run to the finals and now find themselves 3rd in the Premiership race. Every point from here will be vital, so make sure you are down at Melrose Park on Sunday at 6pm to see what will be an epic battle for the points. 06.01.2022 Mens Premier League Game of the Week Saints Eagles Souths Football Club host Townsville Warriors Football Club at their Aitkenvale Park headquarters in a batt...le between 1st and 2nd. Saints come into the match 5 points clear of Warriors, with only 2 rounds and 6 points left up for grabs and have the chance to win the Premiership in front of their parochial home crowd. Saints’ success has come from their direct counter attacking style with ex State league mid fielder Corey Waples supplying their attacking weapons Aden Ibrahim, Damien Hodgetts and Campbell Hume who the Warriors defense will need to be at their best to contain. Warriors play a similar style and will look to Adam Sheen to add to his goal tally to get his side the win and keep their slim Premiership hopes alive. With Premiership glory at stake, where else would you want to be? See more
