Tommy had attached the top to his Advocado leg that he had made on Thursday, the top is made from African Mahogony. Paul was in the process of making a bowl out of pine and had also made a little bowl.

13.01.2022 Dave Drescher of SEQ Woodworking Supplies will be visiting our clubhouse in Grosvenor Street on 19 August. Dave brings his huge bus full of tools and equipment from Beenleigh three times a year and all turners and woodworkers have the opportunity to see and touch before they buy. The added bonus is there is no postage to pay. Make sure you dont miss this opportunity.

13.01.2022 Here are a few projects that the guys and girls were working on last week.

12.01.2022 Our latest turning class students finish polishing the bowls they have made.

11.01.2022 Some photos from our Open Day. Pat did a wonderful demonstration for us and many of the members brought in their works for a display. We not only do woodturning but also Pyrography, Scroll Saw work and Intarsia which is an elaborate form of marquetry using inlays in wood. If you have any photos from Saturdays open day let me know so that I can add them to the page. :)

11.01.2022 Hope everyone had a great Christmas and have a safe New Year :)

10.01.2022 We had a special demo by Keith Smith today. He showed us his pencil blanks that he has been making. He then turned it using a variety of tools to see which one worked the best. It was interesting to hear how he glues his blanks together and good to see how it all turned out. Had a few of the pencils blow out but it is all trial and error and I can see his wheels turning on how to improve it for next time. All members who were present appreciated Keiths efforts and a BIG Thanks to him for doing this demo. Also thank you to Andrew and Tommy for the sausages.

07.01.2022 Our annual Christmas get together at The Cathedral School. You missed a great meal if you did not attend.

06.01.2022 Our Club conducts wood turning classes from time to time and the next one will be on Monday 29 August and Wednesday 31 August at our clubhouse in Grosvenor Street. 9.00am to 3.00pm on both days. Once completed the beginners class you are able to use the Club equipment on Thursdays and Saturdays to work on your own projects in a supportive environment. Costs are $25 joining fee, $50 for 12 months Club membership and $150 for the classes. All tools, timber etc supplied. ... Please PM me if you want to sign up for this class. Cheers Peter OOPS Made a big booboo. That should read 29 and 31 July. Sorry for the stuff up.

05.01.2022 Our Monthly get together today coincided with Dave and his bus of woodturning goodies. He is here today only and wont be back until April so if you need any last minute kits or items stop in and see him. We also had our sausage sizzle, thanks to Paul and Tommy for cooking that up for us :), and Tommy did a talk on the Annual Proserpine Turnout which he and a few other members attended last weekend. Sounds like a fun time was had and something to add to the bucket list for next year.

05.01.2022 Yesterday saw judging of the Clubs annual turning competition at the Townsville Showgrounds. The Show opens this evening until Monday night so come along and see the exhibits. See the winning pieces, vote for the peoples choice, buy a ticket in our raffle for two squatters chairs or buy a pice of local handcrafted turning. 04.01.2022 Our newest members who have today completed the beginners turning course. Please welcome Ray, Peter and Bill if you see them around the Club.

04.01.2022 A rare sight at the club today, President Jim doing some turning. A nice piece of Black Wattle we think. Also Tommy is creating a bowl out of mango, Pat is turning some African Mahogany and Norm is making a bowl from Mango.

04.01.2022 After great consideration I have decided to leave the club. I will no longer be updating this page so if you have any questions regarding the club please do not hesitate to drop into the clubhouse on either a Thursday or Saturday and have a chat with the members, they are fantastic friendly people who love to see a new face.

02.01.2022 Next time you visit the Thuringowa Library check out our display. We have an amazing range of turned items in the display case so make sure you go and have a look. If you are interested in any of the items leave a message here or call the club as most members have items for sale.

02.01.2022 Visited the club this morning and took some photos of the projects the club members are making. Some Intarsia made by Geoff, a table leg from Advocado by Tommy, a platter from Mango by Paul, our new member Rod finished a small bowl - his 3rd piece :) and May making some pendants for the Mayors Christmas Appeal. Also make sure you visit the Bushland Beach markets this weekend as one of our members will be there.

01.01.2022 Due to the rules prohibiting assembly to stem the spread of Corona virus, our Clubhouse in Grosvenor Street will be closed until further notice. Hope we can get back to normal as quickly as possible and start making shavings again. Stay safe everybody.
