The New Australian Standards AS3660.2-2017 provides further guidance" AS 3660.2:2017 Termite management In and around existing buildings and structures now recommends a thermal camera. As you should know Termites destroy homes, so the more tools we have on board to help locate live act...ive termites, the better. Not all infestations can be found using a Thermal camera, however on this occasion the camera helps us track down a lot of active termites (Coptotermes Species) within the wall cavity in this instance. Visual Termite Inspections and Timber Pest Inspections have limitations as we cannot see through walls or behind Furniture or beneath roof void insulation or under a slab, even with a camera. Australian Standards AS3660.2-2017 recommends a Thermal Camera and so it should, remembering it is not a magical tool and we are not magicians we are technicians, however having a camera will assist the operational process that creates a competitive advantage in the market and makes every inspector feel more comfortable as they drive away from the property.
