23.01.2022 This year the push towards focusing on skills and adaptability will continue. Therefore we need to ensure that curricula are more closely aligned with the evolution of industries and jobs. This is precisely what TPG sets out to achieve with its revolutionary leadership accelerator. In the linked post, Byron Auguste suggests we: Hire for skills and readiness, not just resumes Recognize and invest in diverse paths to skills... https://lnkd.in/gPe5P58

22.01.2022 We have a choice in life - hang out with people who don't challenge us so we feel good about ourselves, or find people better than us to learn from, even if it's uncomfortable. The Proving Ground is designed with apprenticeship and mentorship at its core - purely so our Associates can learn from the best. A 14-year-old from California, Justin Fong, asked what advice Buffett and Munger would give a young person on how to be successful. "It's better to hang out with people bet...ter than you," said Buffett. "Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you'll drift in that direction." Added Munger drily, "If this gives you a little temporary unpopularity with your peer group, the hell with 'em." https://money.cnn.com/2004/05/03/pf/buffett_qanda/

16.01.2022 We must protect humans, not jobs. With the recent factory job cuts by Cadbury, we have to ask ourselves whether we really want humans wrapping chocolates anyway. We should applaud the use of robots to free people to do different jobs. But we must, as a society, ensure creative pathways forward for people to adapt to changes like this. Post-school pathways must educate students with the character, mindset and skillset to navigate our increasingly ambiguous future. We have no i...dea what robots will be capable of in 40 years time, or what society will demand of humans, but we can ensure our future citizens have a truly timeless education. If technology can do what humans do but more efficiently, such as recalling facts, then we clearly should not be focusing on those skills when educating. It much harder to fight against irrelevance than exploitation, but this is part of the reason The Proving Ground exists. http://www.abc.net.au//cadbury-tasmania-job-losse/10315556

11.01.2022 "Without good communication skills you won't be able to convince people to follow you, even though you see over the mountain and they don't." The Proving Ground's revolutionary Leadership Accelerator focuses intently on the skills we need in our future leaders. We are passionate about ensuring people can communicate confidently in all mediums and with all people. https://www.inc.com//warren-buffett-says-theres-1-skill-yo

11.01.2022 Are you focused on building resume virtues or eulogy virtues? Both are important, but too often we only focus on what society expects of us. https://www.newyorker.com//david-brookss-search-for-meaning

09.01.2022 The CEO of Boston Consulting Group has the following advice for young people in today's changing world: 1) Look for apprenticeship - learning by doing actual work and observing others is the key to accelerated development 2) Get ready to learn - you must be open to continuous learning or else fall behind... 3) Be yourself - authenticity at work is crucial. 4) Look for balance - work is a big part of your life, but so is everything else. https://www.linkedin.com//navigating-changing-world-work-/

08.01.2022 A post from TPG's co-founder James Gutteridge: Why do you do what you do? The easy question is what do you do? We always ask other people this, and we usually get a short answer that is hard to base a conversation on....Continue reading

05.01.2022 Here at The Proving Ground we have engineered a process that is built for you to learn and push your comfort zone. With decades of experience in education and entrepreneurship, we are developing young leaders who have an insatiable appetite for knowledge. How much do you love learning? A curious mindset is one of the most important traits to have in the 21st century because the world is rapidly changing. We need to keep learning in order to keep not only on top of these chan...ges, but to help actually enable them. But we won't learn if we don't want to learn. Some of us have had our curiosity sapped after years of schooling. We think that the only way to learn is through boring repetition and regurgitation. Yes, learning is hard and it is not always fun, but it is the process that is enjoyable. The best bit is that we don't need to go to school to learn - we can learn everywhere and anywhere - from the conversation with our colleague, from a YouTube talk, and even from social media (hopefully you have learned something reading this post!). https://digest.bps.org.uk//explaining-the-power-of-curios/

04.01.2022 Here at The Proving Ground we teach many things, two of which are time management and what to use your limited time for. We teach this experientially - by giving Associates a highly curated list of reading materials to accelerate their leadership skills, and then helping them manage their time in order to accomplish this alongside their other course experiences.

04.01.2022 "Education in Australia not only needs to be more practical, it needs to be more holistic. Valuing high marks and exam success over practical skills and skills in entrepreneurship, leadership and innovation is an antiquated model that turns out unenthusiastic, uncreative, outcome-focused students who lack the necessary qualities to be well-rounded members of the workforce, and of society." This is precisely why The Proving Ground exists - to educate future leaders the wa...y they truly need to be. https://www.theage.com.au//i-got-a-99-atar-but-i-had-a-lou

03.01.2022 "[With the ATAR], finally it's us appealing to universities' common sense and self-interest that actually our kids flourishing a bit more in year 11 and 12 and following their interests and going into more depth and developing more skills..." The Proving Ground does not even look at academics when assessing our Associates. Instead we look at their character, mindset and skillset, such as curiosity and grit. These are far more important, and giving young people the opportunity to develop these by enjoying their senior school studies is key. https://www.smh.com.au//atar-a-strait-jacket-around-our-ki

01.01.2022 Meet some of our mentors. They have all succeeded in their professional business careers and are here to help our Associates on our Leadership Accelerator do the same.

01.01.2022 Applications are now closed for round one. Thank you to everyone that applied! We were overwhelmed by the level of interest and all the thought and effort that applicants put in. We are currently processing applicants and will announce our first cohort of Associates in January!
