22.01.2022 NZ SUMMER OF CRICKET TOUR SERIES We begin with the most recent series against India, although we do have an all round team, it’s a bit of dejavue for our men’s Black Caps squad, as the are comprehensively beaten by India in the T20 matches and, even with a brilliant batting performance of 90+ runs out of 45 ball’s, just shy of another century by the captain Kane Williamson, would still not be enough to rain in the visitors target. It must feel as if certainly for our men’s ...Black Caps, the bounce must go there way soon, as they have been so close in some of the matches it can only get better surely. If they were looking for some inspiration heading into next weeks ODI Series, take a leap out of our White Ferns convincing win over the touring Women’s South African team, well done girls made us proud after watching our men’s team falling short once again. With our White Ferns win, it may have just been. the inspiration our boy’s team needed, as they have batted and equally bowled their way back now in their favor the ODI 1st match against India. (348 target) With 3 wickets down, we needed our experience player’s to put their best foot forward and assert that dominance and, that’s exactly what Ross Taylor and young Tom Latham did as they carried on and guided. along with the middle order batsman of James Neesham and Mitchell Santner contributing with some big hits, and partnership of the match, by Taylor (no) 109 off 84 balls and, fill in Captain Tom Latham who was caught out earlier. Our men’s team now have a 1-0 lead in this ODI Series over India, and look, we know when our boy’s get on a roll, they play their best cricket and let’s not be complacent a lot of the existing squad have individual and team International records, and a good example of that experience showed through the likes of Ross Taylor posting his 21st ODI International century and his 10th maybe, at his favored Seddon Park. (Hamilton) Let’s hope that our men’s squad have found their mojo and carry that winning feeling on into the next ODI matches. However, after a superb come back bowling performance by our girl’s, credit is due and deservedly to our women’s White Ferns cricket team now into their ODI series with a 2-0 lead. Leading the way is another experience player Captain Sophie Devine picking up a wicket, and with her 62 runs, and chipping in Maddy Green’s 23 at also Seddon Park, the girls passed the South African target comfortably to give them a 2-0 comfort zone. All round I think both our men’s and women’s teams slowly but surely, with some sign’s showing through the ODI matches, and with our crowds support turning up the vibe at the matches, "I reckon, I got a feeling, that tonight's gonna be a good night" more records could be on the cards, watch this space" Some SKILLZ being showcased here

16.01.2022 NZ BREAKERS What a performance from our NZ Breakers basketball team, knowing it’s do or die round 19 for them, they had to dig deep against a former coach and, ex pat breakers, now playing for the Australian franchise the Brisbane bullets. However it was the noted come back by the breakers, and the outstanding last quarter from import Scotty Hobson, with him lighting it up with a rasp of shots from all over the court, with his assists and rebound cover obviously spurred the ...rest of the team on as shots were going up and in from all of the player's showed the hunger, required going into the quarter finals, and with that finish, that keeps their playoff hopes alive going into this weekend’s game. Take the home advantage game to be played in Christchurch, and local support for our breakers team, we just love it, when we beat the Australian team’s. SKILLZ

11.01.2022 HSBC 7S SERIES VANCOUVER After a slight set back loss at the last tournament our all black rugby 7s team still had to fend off a valiant charge from the Australian team, and coming off that loss only securing 3rd place in that leg of the series, still had the all black 7s slightly ahead on the world standings. Now firmly on top after defeating Australia in the Vancouver final it was a great battle against our old foe's and after watching our boy's passionate "Haka" it was ...obviously going to be a match not to miss, and the all black 7s were making it clear they wanted to secure their spot at the top of the HSBC 7 series going into the next tournament. Great come back from the All black 7s and the brilliant SKILLZ to ultimately take out the Vancouver leg of the series.

10.01.2022 FIBA CUP ASIA 2021 BASKETBALL Qualifiers The other night in Australia, one could be excused for mistaking our NZ Tall blacks for our NZ Breakers team.as they start their FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifier campaign against the Australian boomers.... I certainly drifted in and out of focus on who was playing simply because the majority of the team are, or, expat Breakers. However like other sporting codes you cant help but notice again the newbies coming through.as with the surviving experienced player’s, however it’s the new younger one’s shining and playing some outstanding, brilliant and next level, as they break a long lasting drought beating the boomers for the first time let it be known, on Australian soil since 2009. I’m guessing there may have been some of the NZ Breakers player’s feeling a little bitter sweet coming off the questionable elimination process in the Australian Basketball league, that has certainly almost ended their season if based on the points, for and against etc, even with the breakers winning their last 3 game’s on the trot. If it was that used as motivation, or the fact we haven’t beaten the boomers since 2009, and on their home soil, whatever it was, the tall blacks will need to keep that motivation going into the 2nd qualifier against Guam. Certainly something or someone got the boy’s fired up after the half, as player’s having an outstanding 2nd half hitting double figures, and leading the way is one of those expat player’s Reuben Te Rangi with an outstanding 21 points, now playing with the Australian franchise Brisbane bullet’s. It was obviously the surge from Te Rangi that helped other’s find their mojo with Shea ILi, Rob lowe, Ngatai, Prewster, right across the team chipping in with some great shooting, play assists, relentless defense commitment, also lighting it up nothing but 2-3 pointers, accompanied by a number of crucial plays, ultimately closing out the game against the boomers. Look we cant take nothing away from the boomer’s who is also stacked with some of the best in the Australian league, notably Basketball Australia had felt secure in sending out a young Boomers line-up featuring six debutants, and It was up to Te Rangi and co to prove to them the folly of that decision. So it’s a great start to the FIBA ASIA CUP qualifiers for our tall blacks team, and we must also note, for the new coach, one of our long serving both local and an international player, Pero Camerons 1st game and a win as head coach. Well done boy’s big question is, can it be maintained, that momentum going into the game against Guam which will only strengthen our standings, crucial for the Asia Cup next year. Check out some of the action in these pictures both team's, it's beautiful when they hit those "nothing but net", "lighting it up", "creaming it" from the outside, work hard, play smart get the rewards. "SKILLZ".
