24.01.2022 Another Popular style of boat racing is Outboards. These can be raced to suit people of any budget. Race Classes - OUTBOARDS Outboards can also be easily recognised by the everyday person, as they are loosely based on outboard ski boats. Again, obviously designs and construction materials are quite different to your average "eggbeater".... Outboards are generally separated into "monos" and "tunnels". Monos being the more common mono (meaning one) or "vee" style of hull you can relate your ski or fishing boat to. Tunnels are similar to hydroplanes as they also rely on an air trap of tunnel to create the air pressure needed to help these boats ride on top of the water. Tunnels differ from hydroplanes in the fact that the air traps extend to the full length of the hull The Outboard classes range from 25hp up to Unlimited Outboards and the world wide based class of the Formula 1 tunnel boats. RACE CLASSES These classes are the most active outboard classes in Australia at this time: Yamato OSY400A Open Hull 25hp Open Hull 550cc Supersports 800cc Open Mono's Formula 4 Formula 3 Formula SST120 Formula 2 (Opti) Formula 1

24.01.2022 After discussions over the past couple months we now have been successfully approved to hold APBA sanctioned circuit boat race meetings. This will give us the insurance and backing so we can now start to plan future race meetings. This will be a good start to getting circuit boat racing in QLD back to it where used to be. Big thanks to our committee, Andrew Leeson and QLD Council and other APBA clubs for your efforts.

23.01.2022 Hi Everyone. This has been in the making and discussion for sometime between a group of racers in QLD and the APBA. I want to stress this is not against any other club or event. A few of us are keen to race at more race meetings than we currently have option to race at in QLD and race some meetings in the southern states. After discussion this was a good option for us, get some more race event options in QLD and perhaps to help us option for southern racers to travel to QLD.... Were eventually looking to run some events in North and central QLD. This could be a great option for some southern racers to make a holiday out of it as we would when we travel south. For any enquires you can message this page, email [email protected] or contact our Commodore Michael Harvey 0402 411 527 or Vice Commodore Josh Davies 0455 501 704 Regard Michael Harvey

16.01.2022 While we have been quiet over the last few weeks a lot work in the background has been happening. With a successful meeting with our QLD APBA President weve been able to form a good relationship so we can set a good direction not just for the club but what will be great for boat racing in QLD. Weve had some sponsors come on board to help us with buoys, flags and other safety equipment. Also help in getting a package together that will help racers from further away to travel to our events in QLD. While the committee has been busy so have the members with a variety of boats going together from 25HP boats, LS stock class boats and even a 6 litre cell boat and a Hyper 5 hydroplane. Also a new F2 boat already ready for its 1st race.

This will help us to get the equipment required to run APBA sanctioned circuit boat racing events in the Mackay region. Big thanks to BHP for supporting us and big thanks to our committee for their continued good work.

14.01.2022 Most popular class would be displacement These boats are probably the easiest to relate to for the public. Displacements are, from a distance, the closest resemblance to your average water ski boat. With the engine mounted "inboard", usually at the rear of the boat. Obviously these finely tuned racing boats are a little different than your average ski boat. Construction materials range from fibreglass & plywood through to the high-tech materials of kevlar & carbon fibre, mak...ing these craft very light and very strong in relation to your average ski boat. The term "displacement" is derived from the the action of the boat "displacing" (pushing the water out of the way) the water as it moves through the water. Displacement classes range from 3.4 litre skiffs all the way up to the monstrous Blown Alcohol Displacements. RACE CLASSES Classes are based on engine capacity. There are generally no restrictions on engine configuration (straight 6, V8, etc) or make or model. There are exceptions in a couple of classes, which are generally aimed at controlled, even racing. These classes are the most active displacement classes in Australia at this time: Unlimited Displacement 6000 cc. Displacement 6000 cc. Prostock / Restricted 5200 cc. Displacement 105 mph Superstock 4.2 Litre Stock Displacement Sometimes some clubs run 60, 85 and 95mph classes as well on club days. These are popular classes for people on lower budgets

11.01.2022 This is a great boat for the budget racer. Perfect for someone wanting to start off with a inboard.

11.01.2022 Our committee is still working hard to bring you some news of events over the next few weeks. So in the mean time over the next few weeks we will cover some of our race classes starting with our juniors. This is one of the cheapest motorsports your kids can get into. Junior boats have been bought from $1500 up to $6000 depending on your budget and what class your child will be running in. Boat racing is a family sport and when Mum or Dad get to race in a V8 powered circuit r...ace boat, the kids can also join in and race in the Formula Future classes. The Formula Future class is a great way for kids to be involved in boat racing. While creating an excellent source of fun for the kids, it also puts them on the right track for when they want to step up to the "big boats" later in life. Girls are also a part of Formula Future racing, its definitely not boys only and power boat racing is one of the few sports that girls compete on an even level. RACE CLASSES Formula Future J1 - Drivers in this class must be aged eight to sixteen years. - The power of both inboard and outboard motors used in this class is limited to 6 HP. Formula Future J2 - Drivers in this class must be aged ten to sixteen years. It is desirable that drivers in this class obtain, if available a State Boat Authority Young Adult Licence (or equivalent). Junior J1 Class drivers, stepping up must meet the age requirement for the J2 class. The power of both inboard and outboard motors used in this class is limited to 10 HP. Purpose built or production race motors or "hotted up" motors are not permitted. Formula Future J3 - Drivers in this class must be aged twelve to sixteen years. It is desirable that drivers in this class obtain, if available a State Boat Authority Young Adult Licence (or equivalent). Junior Class J1 and J2 drivers, stepping up must meet the age requirement for the J3 class. The power of both inboard and outboard motors used in this class is limited to 15 HP. The OMC Stock "A" motor, similar purpose built or production race motors or "hotted up" motors are not permitted.

09.01.2022 Today some of our equipment arrived so we are progressing well towards our first event. Big thanks to Hayden Chesser for helping us find the right buoys to suit our needs. This also wouldn’t of happened without support from BHP Coal, Swick Automotive and some donations from some of our awesome club members. These buoys also have pockets for sponsors logos so they make great advertising opportunities for supporting businesses.

09.01.2022 All set up for the weekend !!

08.01.2022 Keep an eye out for our digital billboard advertising over the next couple weeks. Big thanks to Chris Bowden for sorting this for us and M2SIGNS for the support.

08.01.2022 Superhero Saturday Today we say thank you to Rick Howard. A legend from the Hawkesbury River has worked on so many boats doing repairs/modifications it’s not f...unny. In his long career winning many titles & trophies, Ricky, won his first Bridge to Bridge in 1991; he became the youngest winner in race history at 17 and remains so to this day. Now the Hyperactive boat has gone in GP class with a quick run in 2010 but is running a turbo LS which will be a weapon in upcoming seasons. The latest boat he is driving is White Noise GP hydroplane (ex Casino/Mystic Miss) Rick shows no fear on the race track & is one hell of competition. His 2 children Tyla & Coby both in powerboat racing will help the Howard legacy live on. No stranger to the mic with race calling at multiple race tracks & venues there is a high chance Rick will be at any race event watching or have entered. Today we say thanks Rick
